Can't login to the server [resolved] - Kane182new - 04-27-2022

Hi all,

I have some troubles with logging into the server. I have followed every stop of the installation here on the forum. It have clear vanilla version of FL then Discovery and patched it. Still can't login into the server even with creating a new accounts. When I click on the character the page starts to load and then after a while it says I couldn't login. I know I played on this computer on DC last year, so I am not really sure what's wrong.

Any suggestions?

A good place to start is just reset everything. Modem/router/access points...etc. Check connections to your modem/router are solid.

Has anything changed significantly on your network? When was the last time you were able to connect successfully? A Windows update may have blitzed firewall exceptions, or a third party firewall/anti-virus may have become a little overzealous and started blocking important packets required to connect.

Since you can see the server in the game via the launcher, and the launcher can check for updates, I'd suggest disabling any additional firewall you have installed temporarily and making sure there are firewall exceptions for the UDP/TCP ports that Freelancer needs to connect. I've forgotten what these are I'm afraid, I'll edit the post when I remember/find out.

Unless there is some niche advice I'm missing around Discovery's launcher or a method with which the game is launched, connection issues almost always come down to blocked ports or computer/router issues.

All the best!

Either you are banned or go to documents/my games/freelancer delete this folder always work

I knew there was something I missed, haha.

Thank you both, I don't think I am banned, I don't see any of my characters in the banned section. Last time I could login was several months ago, since that time I have a new router so I assume it is something with that. because I tried deleting documents/my games/freelancer folder - didn't work. And simply disabling antivirus and firewall didn't work either.

Use here to check if you are banned
Anti cheat system can also ban you without notice

Also do a small experiment, try to connect your phone's data from computer and try to join game with that connection( or try different wifi )

Great idea! I am able to login while using my phone's data. So now I know there's something wrong with my wifi configuration.

Still didn't figure out what to do with my wifi/router settings. So far playing on my phone data, but would love to fix this. Disabling firewall completely didn't help either.

Do you have any ports blocked in your configurations? Even disabling the Firewall on many SOHO (Small Office Home Office) routers can still leave the ports being blocked even though the Firewall is offline.

Depending on your router, it may be under "Virtual Server" settings in the software. More than likely any Port Forwarding configuration will be under the WAN settings and not the WiFi.

What model router are you using? Is it a Modem/Router combo that's provided by your ISP? Or are you utilizing a Modem and Router separately? If the former you may not have complete access to your settings.

EDIT: Reading more into your posts, it appears your router is the culprit considering it was fine before you replaced it. If you can provide the model, I can look into a bit and see if I can help you out. I'm always on-board for a Network puzzle.
