侯爵島森正仁

To whom it may concern,

I am marquess Shimamori Masahito of Nakashibetsu, Honshu, as well as the Lord Speaker of the Imperial Diet of Kusari. Today I am reaching out to you as a private person and a benefactor, however, and not representing the official Kusari. I have previously made contact with one of your men, William Storgen, and kept the contact with your organisation in case of disturbing developments. Unfortunately, this is exactly the case.

The recent weeks have been marked by unusual encounters in the restricted system of Tohoku. Alien entities and their assumingly infested thralls have visited the system on multiple occasions. I personally managed to witness those three times this month. Except for one particularly large vessel that disappeared upon seeing the approaching Kusari forces the two other encounters were "civil" to the extent this word can be used in this case.

The first encounter was with a smaller entity, that of a size equivalent to our fighters. The entity was showing curiosity and attempted to "communicate". As this sort of communication could not be recorded I will provide a quick description in the form of a log. In short, the entity was showing curiosity and we came to understand that they can be tolerated as long as they do not infringe on our borders (or those of any human society).

The second encounter was more concerning. It was with a seemingly human vessel. The vessel originally broadcasted a system-wide SOS message pretending to be a Kusari ship under the attack of the Blood Dragons. Upon approaching the sent coordinates we found a gunboat-class vessel of unknown design, clearly not Kusarian. The equipment of the vessel also had peculiar signatures previously observed by our team in the deeper Omicrons and clearly not used by human vessels. The ship in question was rather inquisitive and asked a lot about our motives and personal matters, such as friends and relatives. The years spent doing meditation during my traditional Kusarian education allowed to withstand the mind pressure yet the entity still was quite persuasive to extract certain information. At the same time, I believed that sharing some innocuous personal information of no strategic importance could in turn enable us to obtain some valuable information in return. The most concerning part of this encounter, however, is that the entity or the ship, or the infected captain thereof, whatever it might have been, tried openly to "convince" me and my crew to "join" them and willingly succumb to their infestation. I am aware from the reports on the War of 800-801 what this infestation looks like and it is still difficult for me to imagine who would voluntarily choose such a fate. However, the very fact that the aliens are openly conducting surreptitious activities such as corruption of the personnel is deeply concerning. On a side note, the ship seems to have tried to transmit the obtained information via an energy of some kind (we detected a spike in heat signatures travelling in a vector away into the deeper Omicrons. The ship also insinuated that there is more to the Arch and Sado fleet. This is something KOI will investigate.

I do not know whether the attempt at converting me was a precise one directed at a high-ranking official or a random coincidence. We both are well aware of the example of governor Tekagi and how dangerous such infection can be for the whole sector. Needless to say, voluntarily I will not succumb to such attempts as the sense of duty to his people is very deeply rooted in the heart of every Kusarian. This message is mainly to provide additional information to the Order given your "specialisation" and expertise in dealing with matters like these. Tohoku remains a restricted system under Kusari administration and your vessels in the system technically will be outlawed. However, we are ready to close our eyes on your operations there if such presence is not too close to Sado or the Arch, and your ships are not seen supplying or aiding in any other way the Blood Dragons or their allies. I also assure you that the KOI will investigate the matter on our side, especially the insinuations regarding Sado and the Arch.

Perhaps, the information provided will allow you to strengthen monitoring in the deeper Omicrons, thus restricting the aliens from our space. This will certainly benefit us both.

With respect,
Marquess Shimamori Masahito

Tohoku

Good day. My name is Grand Admiral Michal Golanski, I will be representing The Order in this communication. We recognize you here representing not Kusari and its government, but at best your own Household. Alike in the spirit it was suggested, I ask for understanding that I am not going to follow the Court etiquette when explaining our point of view and knowledge.

Concerning your encounters with the Nomads. What makes them particularly insidious enemies is that their preferred methods are ones of corruption and lies. They learned the existence of emotions from us but it is difficult to say if anything beyond animalistic ‘anger’ and ‘curiosity’ is native to them. However, what is important is that they can use those against us. Nomads are incapable of friendship: it is a ploy to get you sympathetic to them and make you lower your defences… either to abduct their target afterwards or ‘peacefully’ assimilate into the hive if the individual is sufficiently naive. In the best scenario, the human psyche is destroyed beyond the point of retaining consciousness. At worst, you are stuck inside your own mind as something else, alien and far more sinister, is utilising and altering your memories, mind and body.

The second encounter is presumably a Scorpion gunboat. First spotted in deep Omega systems in 816 AS, it is biomechanical being compounded from Nomad and human biomass as well as more ‘traditional’ metal components. We do not know much beyond its outward physical specifications and characteristics as none was ever captured intact. All we know is that our scanners confirm the presence of humans inside, but without any amenities or space to house even a single crewmember. What scarce information we have on it is not classified and we are sharing it now since your intelligence service - in particular a former agency called Kempentai - did not enjoy a reputation of being competent when it comes to Nomad menace.

As a high Kusari dignitary, you are also their target. Regular pilots may serve well as dispensable pilots, but a VIP or their family member will serve as staging ground to a higher ranked position, or an infiltrator of importance: using their influence to cause more armed conflict, drive up the death count or syphon more assets and bodies to Aoi Iseijin / Das Wilde. We eradicated this problem among our personnel by regularly scheduled medical tests on a monthly basis. Every agent coming from hiding, long-term mission or returning from missing status is mandatorily checked. Every individual wishing to board a base or warship in our service will not be allowed to roam even into the canteen without undergoing this non-invasive procedure.

Sadly, the current state of affairs in Tohoku and Kusari at large will remain so long Arch continues to serve as Nomad’s primary base of operations in your House. I thank you for your information nonetheless and advise you to seek further contact with us in situations you have anything else to relay to us, or are in need of information that we can afford to disclose. Of course, under no circumstances ever reveal that you are in fact in contact with us to members of Kusari’s governmental apparatus. Severe paranoia against threats real or perceived; external or internal is embedded in every intelligence operative regardless of nation or borders.

Vargants

Esteemed Marquess Shamamiro Masahito,

I am glad you are doing fine and well since our last meeting and you did not disregard the issue with our “little purple friends”.
My apologies for intruding on your conversation, but I have something to tell you both after my endless journeys across the Sirius.

From what I have read in attached logs, you have seen so-called nomad vagrants – presumably First Nomad War remnants which found a way to survive and evolve in certain way. Unlike Nomads we usually fight within Omicrons, Vagrants are more rational, smart, and tricky. Even worse – they clearly understand the entire spectrum of our emotions, our nature, they know what is friendship and even capable to share deep emotions like love. And it’s their most dangerous ability to gain confidence in people and reach their goals. Besides, Vagrants have their own ‘wilds’: recently they have been known as La Division Vipere – captured gallic soldiers and officers. We know only one man who managed to escape vagrants deadly trap and join our ranks. However, La Division Vipere had no longer been shown on radars for months, making me think they have been assimilated into another ‘hive’ or they just work under different banners.

I know these details because I am targeted person for Vagrants and share information to help us survive. Shimamori, be careful, I would expect Vagrants keeping eyes on your person. Provide yourself and your dearest ones with an emergency escape route and all necessary information.

Be safe.

Grand Admiral Golanski, Commodore Storgen,

It is good to see that the Order is still up to its original task of countering the alien menace after all these years. Perhaps, one day the other Kusari officials will be swayed to see you in that light as well. Until then it is the KOI we rely on in these matters. Their recent reports have been ... interesting to say the least.

Regarding your concerns, I can assure you all the necessary precautions have been taken. Following your advice, I will also make it necessary for anyone serving in my Clan and in the Imperial Diet to undergo a rigorous medical checkup regularly to prevent any sources of infestation. Moreover, from my previous logs, you might have had the idea that I was trying to negotiate with the aliens. Indeed, there is a part of me that despises war and tries to seek a peaceful resolution. Blinded by my own idealism, I tried to "negotiate" with these things a non-interference stance towards each other. Yet you are correct about their deceptive nature. Despite us seemingly reaching a sort of "understanding" not to violate each other's space just a few days after the said "negotiations" a large alien signature was spotted in the system of Shikoku close to a freelancer base of Noshima. This was against any kind of "understanding" we might have reached previously. Blame on me to trust an alien even for an iota. The said signature did not react to warnings and consciously ignored our demands. Following this encounter, we are taking a much harder stance on these "vagrants". I assure you, there will be no more negotiations.

As for the situation in Tohoku, your claims regarding the Arc come to me as a surprise. The Arc has been off the limit for most Kusari officials for a while but I have never heard it to be related to the aliens in any way following the "incident" with Governor Tekagi. Your further elaboration on this matter would be highly appreciated. As a token of goodwill, I want to share the intel I have obtained from our KOI operatives. As you might expect, following the Second Kusari-Gallia war our intelligence is watching the Gauls attentively. The recent report of the KOI indicates that Issoudun shipyard in Orkney was destroyed - a serious blow to the Gallic shipbuilding capabilities. The station was lost with most of its personnel aboard. The few survivors offered contradicting versions of what had happened: some bladed a Maquis terrorist act, others - a sudden strike by a wing of the Gaians, but most of them reported a strange blueish luminescence prior to the attack. What is even more surprising is that now, a few weeks following the incident, all of the survivors went missing. They vanished as if they had never existed in the first place. Surely, we can blame this on the militaristic Gallic regime but it looks too suspicious for all of them missing. Additionally, strange EM signatures can be picked up at Issoudun's wreck still by long-range scanners. This news is accompanied by an increasing number of reports from the denizens of the Taus about strange blue lights in the skies and voices in people's heads. Perhaps, further investigation by your experienced operatives can shed more light on this situation for the benefit of all mankind.

I will keep watching the developments from within Kusari and will let you know if anything important occurs. My offer regarding Tohoku stands and I will to some extent be able to back you there if you encounter the KNF. However, you are on your own within any other Kusari system. I wish you a good hunt and fruition in your future endeavours.

With respect,
Marquess Shimamori Masahito
