question concerning zoner explorer - jdftheman - 04-16-2009
Like the title says, i have a question about making myself a zoner exploration vessel. Namely what ship should be best, the kusari explorer gunboat, or the zoner corvo cruiser.
I currently have the standard zoner ID, and i don't really have the ambition to get a zoner guard tag, so can i still use the corvo cruiser, or am i in this case better off with the gunboat. On a side note, i am planning to fly unarmed, only with mining lasers installed onto the ship, so basicly i am a sitting duck for anything.
EDIT: can someone tell me in what system i can find the corvo please, i't really appreciate it

the corvo "cruiser" needs you to become a guard. - so in your case, you should go for the kusari explorer, which is considered a gunboat class.

To have a capital ship, I do believe it is required to have a Guard ID UNLESS you make up an RP story for it AND get permission from the faction who sells it.
The Corvo is sold in Omicron 74 which is Zoner Guard space and is protected space.

Interesting - my brother and me set ourselves up with freelancer accounts last night and went off exploring (under the guise of a private exploration firm - Excelsior Space Exploration)....I purchased a repair ship and my brother purchased an anki.
As a new player, is that viable RP? I love the repair ship (acting as a support ship) but think we can do better than the anki (Kusari explorer perhaps then? - but that wouldn't be allowed through Bretonia I guess?)
We wandered into Omicron Minor, had a very quick look around and made a hasty retreat.....
It's been years since I've played freelancer so it's good to be able to explore the new systems and re-discover the old ones.
Would we be better off looking into going down the Zoner road as well?

Just curious to know how you afforded those ships on your first day, did you get a loan?

I have another character which I had been using as an independant trader for a couple of weeks (this was my first actual character) - the story is that he has invested some of his capital into setting up a private exploration company. Once again, as a newbie, please tell me whether this is okay in terms of RP?

Well the Kusari Explorer is a civilian ship built by Kishiro and Samura, the info card states that it has been made available to freelancers so I think you're ok with this. In fact I think I've seen zoner id and tagged Explorers around Sirius.
Have you considered the Border World Transport? I think it's been RP'd as a research/explorer vessel in the past.
