Subject: Confirming Office of Intelligence gathered material
Priority: High

The Naval Intelligence command received an incomplete data set from the Office of Intelligence a couple of days ago. Material gathered by their agents support rumors of Gallia abandoning the Orkney system.

A small Naval Intelligence wing was launched from Shinkaku Station and sneaked into the Orkney system to confirm and gather more material.
All units returned safely and reported the following situation:
  • All tradelanes within the system are offline, some show direct structural damage, others were abandoned.

  • Both Jump Gates in the system are locked and show minimal structural damage. However, both Gates were knocked out of their prior vector.

  • Issoudun Shipyard was destroyed by a yet to be determined force. EM signatures hint at the use of experimental weaponry on the outside and several explosions from within. This was a precision strike operation, with a high probability that it was initiated on the inside. No ship wrecks were detected which means the station was done for before units from their Battlecruiser could respond.

  • Seemingly no attempts to salvage the wreckage were made so far, however our wing had to execute a Gallic patrol in order to get close to the wreck.

  • Both the mining facility and the Gallic Battlecruiser appear intact. Extensive amounts of patrol units prevented a further analysis. Patrols were only encountered around the mining facility and the wreck.

  • The situation on Dounby, an Independent Miner Guild outpost, was in disarray. Only wild speculations were encountered, this were the most commonly named groups thought to be responsible:
    1. The Maquis - Probability: Low - From all we know, the Maquis operate in a blunt, violent fashion. Cracking the shipyard through a conventional attack would have granted the Sisteron ample of time to react.

    2. The Gaians - Probability: Very low - While they undoubtedly did not forgive Gallia for various reasons, only a token presence of the Gaians was estimated to operate in Orkney. Additionally, with the foreign invasion gone, they are naturally focusing on domestic operations again.

    3. The Outcasts - Probability: Medium - The Outcasts possess the braincells for such a precision strike, however Orkney is not part of the Cardamine routes. Outcasts rarely conduct large operations not directly involving the Cardamine routes in the Tau sector. Java's long range scanners may shed some light on the matter.

    4. The Liberty Security Force - Probability: Zero - Peculiarly, a sizable amount of Miners suggested the Liberty Security Force. Naval Intelligence is not sharing this view and will instead establish contact with Bretonia, given the potential involvement of Bretonian Intelligence units is much more believable.

    5. "It was an inside job" - Probability: Medium - A few Miners are convinced the destruction of Issoudun was planned to be used as propaganda by the Gallics, either to push an isolationist agenda or renewed war efforts in the Tau sector.

    6. The Order - Probability: Unknown - A few Miners reported the sight of Order vessels within Orkney. It is unclear whether they appeared prior or after Issouduns destruction. One of the Miners claimed to have 'hard' proof in the form of this picture: A claimed-to-be Osiris in Orkney. The Orders relation with Gallia is publicly neutral, making it hard to believe they would strike Issoudun unless it was compromised by Nomad pawns.

    7. The Nomads/Wilds - Probability: Unknown - Following every single disaster of the past 25 years, some people claim the involvement of Nomads to be the cause. Evidence is often blurry or does not exist. The EM signatures are somewhat close to Nomad prototype weaponry as used among our or Core forces but they are not an exact fit. We cannot fully root out the possibility that a significant Nomad or Wild force possesses a hideout in the Taus with access to Orkney.

Our suggested next steps are the following:
  • Contact our old partners among the Gaians and gain access for a small permanent wing to their forward base used to stage patrols into Orkney.
  • Contact the Bretonians and question them about their involvement.
  • Extensively monitor Gallic news sources for potential spikes in propaganda or otherwise reports about Orkney.
  • Continued surveillance of the development by our units.
  • Level 2 readiness for both the Akatsuki and Nagasaki patrol forces. Increased monitoring of Tau-23 is deemed advisable.
