Defence Reforms In Full Swing
MANCHESTER - As the month of June comes to an end, so does the first phase of an ambitious plan to reform the centuries-old Royal Navy into a more mobile and capable force, with the Admiralty set to instead maintain a significant number of Crecy-class destroyers and replace outdated Dunkirk battleships with newer, modern, Invincible dreadnoughts.

However not just the Armed Forces are undergoing important changes. The Bretonian Intelligence Service is also set to undergo reforms and, in contrast to the Royal Navy and Army, receive budget increases, as the 'conflict' between Bretonia and Gallia draws into a new era of information warfare and with the Cold War situation between NATO, assisted by Kusari and the Gallic Union evolving into a low-intensity border conflict.

Defence reforms 'will help make Bretonia ready to defend itself and its allies' - With higher priority put on increased deployability and strategic deterrence, the Armed Forces face a historic shift from mass deployment of warships, the Defence Secretary Vernon Mortimer insisting that they must 'adapt to the changing situation in the Colonies'. The Whig Party has, however, stated that 'size does matter', despite assurances given by the Admiralty that reforms are necessary to also cut down maintenance costs of decades-old capital ships and snubcraft.

What do the reforms consist of and what is their effect? - The planned overhaul of the Royal Navy has been split into two parts: the initial redeployment of outdated ships to shipyards and drydocks for mothballing or placement into the reserve, representing phase I, and the second phase, to follow in middle of July, with the Admiralty preparing to set more shipbuilding contracts to BMM. As the majority of the Great Fleets in the Cambridge and Leeds system consist of older models of the Dunkirk and Crecy-class warships, the first phase of the reforms has culminated in their mothballing at Portsmouth Shipyard and Fort Winchester. The anticipated budget cuts total to 1.5 trillion £, with the Bretonian Government concentrating once more on the rebuilding efforts in Leeds.

How do the reforms change Bretonia's position in Sirius? - While it will take significant time for the newer vessels to be deployed into active service, the more mobile and combat capable reformed Armed Forces will be able to counter any threats with more ease and to establish themselves in the higher Taus as a regional power and, together with Kusari and the Crayter Republic, work to counter any Gallic presence within Tau-23. The reformed military will also present itself as a more competent fighting force in both the Omegas front and in the Independent Worlds.

Will this make Gauls pay reparations they owe us? Or its just another d*ck waving move from Her Majesty's Finest without any real result?
