Ship History


"Zuikaku is a customised "Tsuru"-class Kusari destroyer preceded by "Takeda"-class destroyer in the possession of Kinoshita family that serves as clan's flagship and is the only large combat vessel in clan's possession. The ship was commissioned by Samura as one of two "Tsuru"-class destroyers back in 790 A.S and constructed the same year at Yokohama shipyard. The ship was deployed to the Honshu system in order to reinforce the eastern borders and to observe the Sigma cluster. With the Rheinland invasion during the Nomad war, "Zuikaku" was mobilised alongside her sister ship "Shoukaku" under the 14th KNF Destroyer wing. During these events, both "Zuikaku" and "Shoukaku" sustained damage and were forced to retreat to undergo maintenance at the Yokohama shipyard.

During the Kusari-Bretonia war for Taus, "Zuikaku" with "Shoukaku" under the 14th KNF Destroyer wing joined an operation as a part of the invasion fleet. During the operation in the Tau-31 sister ship "Shoukaku" was destroyed. She covered the "Zuikaku" from the outnumbered forces of the 63rd Bretonia Cruiser division and 34th Bretonia bomber wing. Zuikaku has managed to retreat to the main Kusari forces. With this condition, the "Zuikaku" was redirected back to Kusari.

During the events of the emperor's exile and Gallic onslaught in the Tau Region "Zuikaku" was being repaired at Yokohama until late 819 A.S. Afterwards, "Zuikaku" was redirected to the eastern borders again where she was entrusted with the same target: to ensure the safety of Kusari civilian vessels, eliminate terrorist groups within Honshu and observe the Sigma cluster. "Zuikaku" took an active part during the Kusari-Rheinland war in Shizuoka (Sigma-21) system. Being a flagship of an operative "Tsuru" wing "Zuikaku" managed to destroy a Rheinland offensive wing.

After the Shizuoka conflict, "Zuikaku" was repaired once again under the banner of the Kinoshita Clan.

Current Status


At the moment, the ship is commanded by Kinoshita Akechi and provides safety within Kusari space. "Zuikaku" rarely leaves the Core systems of the Kusari Empire, however "Zuikaku" can come to help to the Sigma and Tau systems. The ship contains a local "Tsuru" field headquarters and "Zuikaku" serves as a vanguard ship of the Shimamori clan in a battle against the terroristic cells, the Outcasts, and other hostile to the Empire groups.

The ship can be frequently seen within the borders of Kusari, most often in the Honshu system. The weekly maintenance is carried out at Yukawa shipyards and the major maintenance is carried out at Yokohama shipyard where the ship was originally constructed by Samura.

Ship Customisation and Capabilities


"Zuikaku" is the only one left survived sistership of the "Tsuru"-class Destroyer. "Zuikaku" have made a long journey through Nomad war, Tau war, Kusari exiles and Shizuoka Conflict, thus the ship had been not once of the major maintenances on Yokohama shipyard. After each modernisation on Yokohama, where the ship was commisioned "Zuikaku" obtained something new from each maintance. Thus, after the Tau war "Zuikaku's" interior was remodelled: A mobile headquarters were made on the ship to fullfill the role of the "Zuikaku": A Mobile flagship.

"Zuikaku" Heavy weapony log #1: "Naginata" Cruiser Blaster Turret.

"Naginata" Cruiser Blaster Turret is a Kusari Prototype was inspired by a "Coup De Grace" Blaster Turret. "Naginata" Is intendent as a universal Heavy weapon, both good for defending from fighters and Hit-and-running on Capital ships and most used Gunboat-class ships.

The development and production of the cannons were commissioned to Minamimito Research Institute for Energy Utilisation (南水戸エネルギー利用研究所) and Kyotaihou Engineering Group (大大鳳工務店グループ). Researchers from Minamimito Energy Utilisation Research Institute carried out the theoretical calculations and modelling in conjunction with theoretical physicist from Tenmei University. The grant provided to the researchers for the theoretical calculations of the weapons also covered theoretical research in the field of plasma acceleration for fusion reactors. The private company Kyotaihou Engineering was entrusted to carry out the assembly of the prototype, and its further calibration in cooperation with the researchers. Following two weeks of calibrations, optimisation, and field testing both on the ground and in the orbit of Honshu, the weapon system was submitted to the commissioner as complete. The blueprints of the weapon was shared with the local department of the Ministry of Defence of the Reformed Empire of Kusari.

"Zuikaku" Heavy weapony log #2: TL-4a "Light Mortar" Cryogenic Antimatter Projector

For decades, the champion among cruisers in the realm of countering other capital ships at a distance was the Liberty Siege Cruiser, with its devastating spinal lance. The invention of cryogenic antimatter projectors closed the gap between the houses, giving each fleet the ability to rain havoc upon each others' battleships from afar, but Liberty remained the only cruiser to be able to consistently augment the battlefield with additional cruiser-based anti-battleship firepower.

The solution was a downsized version of the Mortar, helpfully dubbed the Light Mortar, developed and marketed by the same research firm to not only the houses but also the various groups and factions throughout Sirius that fielded cruiser-scale ships. The Light Mortar is a straightforward development, with smaller antimatter injectors and a proportionately smaller cryogenics unit. While the instantaneous energy output of the weapon is lower than that of any other Mortar variant, it has the lowest cooldown time of any cryogenic antimatter projector, making it perfect for medium to long range sustained fire.

"Zuikaku" Weapony log #4: YCT-2c "Sunflare" Kusari Cruiser Turret

This weapon is designed for use on Kusari's destroyers, and is better suited to attacking smaller ships such as Gunboats and even slower Bombers.

A total of eight "Sunflares" are mounted on "Zuikaku". Four turrets on the upper part of the ship, two of them on the "Hatchet's Nose" and two of them covering the lower part of the ship.

Project Mizu


"Zuikaku" is one of two "Hatchets" in Shimamori Clan possession. Having permission from Imperial Cabinet of Kusari Empire Shimamori Clan has begun working on the "Mizu" project. The ship of Shimamori Masahito - "Zuiryu" is developing on Yukawa Shipyard in Honshu by Kishiro keiretsu and "Zuikaku" is developing on Yokohama Shipyard by Samura keiretsu. "Mizu", in theory has a long-range array. Similar arrays can be found on "Tokugawa"-class battleship. This long-range array is also named "horns" by military personal. These "horns" should be able to communicate on the same level as "Tokugawa"-class warships do. In addition to the “Horns” ”Mizu” class Destroyers have radiators near the engines of the ship. Their option do not end with decoration and defending engines from blast, but to radiators additional functionality as solar panels, so both dissipating heat and absorbing solar radiation to convert into energy.

Both "Horns" and Radiators, despite of their usefulness, makes the "Mizu" heavier and less manoeuvrable compare to "Takeda". However, "Mizu" wins in Scanner detection, communications and has more durability, compared to "Takeda"-class Destroyers.

Project Mizu: Long-Range Communication Array.


Communication arrays are of crucial significance to "Mizu". The ability to spot enemies earlier than they spot you gives an edge in combat and allows the vessel to adjust the tactics before the engagement or avoid the combat altogether if the hostiles are too strong or numerous. Being informed on the battlefield means being armed. Additionally, stronger communication arrays have a better utility for various out-of-combat tasks.

Technically Kure's Engineers have reached, in theory, an opportunity to set up a downscalled version of Long-Range Communication arrays took as a design from "Tokugawa"-class battleships and downscale it up to 30% approx. on a "Takeda"-class Destroyers. These Long-Range Communication Array a.k.a "Horns" has a similar utility.

Setting up a light version of Battleship Scanner from "Tokugawa"-class Battleship "Mizu" doesn't lose a range compare to Tokugawa, however Mizu's Scanners capacities increased by 33% for Cargo-Range scanner and 11,1% overall communication and detection capacities. The graphic below shows the difference between "Takeda" and "Mizu".

Project Mizu: Radiator Systems.


Excess waste heat created on the spacecraft is rejected to space by the use of radiators. Radiators come in several different forms, such as spacecraft structural panels, flat-plate radiators mounted to the side of the spacecraft, and panels deployed after the spacecraft is on orbit. Whatever the configuration, all radiators reject heat by infrared (IR) radiation from their surfaces. The radiating power depends on the surface's emittance and temperature. The radiator must reject both the spacecraft waste heat and any radiant-heat loads from the environment. Most radiators are therefore given surface finishes with high IR emittance to maximize heat rejection and low solar absorptance to limit heat from the Sun.

”Mizu” class Destroyers have radiators near the engines of the ship. Their option do not end with decoration and defending engines from blast, but to radiators additional functionality as Radiator system, so both dissipating heat and absorbing solar radiation to convert into energy. The addition of the radiators is not revolutionary and puts "Mizu" on par with the other ships in terms of external energy generation. However, the additional mass caused by the radiator systems and communication antennae will reduce the speed of turn, which, however, will be offset by greater structural durability and energy output.
