Hi guys

I'm not sure if anyone has suggest this before but I'll post it anyway. I was thinking adding fictions able to build base in your system. You get income by players docking and trading in your base. You control who allow in your base and whos not.

To build the base your fiction or guild has to work together to gather a big amount of credits and resource all over Sirius, eg: sliver, egine component and so on.

Each of your current controlled system can build one extra base. Each base is controlled by one of the guilds.

Your enemies can destroy or capture your base to gain credits you need to fight and take it back. Not sure take over but maybe destroy is possible.

I have seen base building 3 years back so i'm sure you can do this.

This will add more interesting role play to discovery and work together as a fiction.

This is open idea anyone interested on please add on

Cheers

Sacen

I dont think its possible without microsuck open saucing.

Fantastic idea, but impossible to automate. Something resembling this could be done with the auto-updater, but there's little need. It would also be incredibly complicated and undoubtedly lead to all kinds of forum nastiness or general shenanigans (especially if they can be captured/destroyed outside of scheduled events- and even if not, if a decisive and cool battle happens randomly and the winners ask that it "counts" the losers will undoubtedly whine). Sorry.

I am currently working on just shuch an RP event for Gateway for just such a thing. With the new ideas for Bretonia a new Gateway base or two has been mentioned.
Wether it be a long running event over a few days or a few hours with the amount of ships Gateway can muster and with Indie contracting out as well im not sure yet, but it could be fun.
The idea of defending a Barge, which would be stationed were the base is to be built, and having all the trade ships delivering all the goods needed to build such a thing might be a bit of a hoot.
And the old addage of " if at first you dont succed " would come into play.....

Thoughts please, good and bad, ive got thick skin :D

That could actually be an event you could get a whole sirius house involved with: You've got your shipping companies bringing in the goods, the Military/police defending the barge from the unlawfuls trying to destroy it. Only thing is that it would need a whole load of planning, and admin approval for the Barge, along with community approval for the new base. I wonder if this could be fitted in with the "Bretonia update" plans, where each base that there are plans to build for the Lawfuls would have this sort of event.

My thoughts exactly. A whole heap of planning to be done,rp build up and costs. I wouldnt mind paying for the barge as it could be used for various events of this type on a seperate account so other peeps could use it ( for a rental fee of course :Dand if i can only figure out how to work FLAM:crazy:)

You can put a station in a system and have it up and running inside 5 minutes.
All grand.

What you are proposing is essentially what guard systems are in a way.

Except for the addition of being able to take things over etc.

Now that is an idea that has been used in nearly every large mod that I know and to great success.
It creates a far more dynamic universe that feels more alive and more..moving. Less like a game and more like it's own universe really.

Factions can actually do this right now if they want to, there's no reason why not.
If the LN and RM agree for instance (With Admin approval, or at least not dissaproval, along with some community feedback) that certain bases can be 'taken over' then you have exactly what you said there.
They fight over the bases in events and whoever wins, takes control.
Worries appear then about NPCs etc and game mechanics but a simple change to the files to the base can be done and it would take everyone literally 1 second or so to download the updated base and system file that the autoupdator gets.

The idea about money etc and goods is another thing entirely but it all goes together.

I think the best place to talk about this might be on Skype, since there's a hell of a lot of things that would need working out.
However, while it sounds complicated and probably will be a lot of work to layout initially, it has huge potential to make Discovery far far far far more exciting and more alive.

That said, getting some of the 4.85 Dev team to poke their noses in here would be nice. Oh and the dynamic warfare etc idea probably won't even touch the mod till it's out of Beta stage, if it is accepted at all.

Look at Stokes, Linkus.

Although, that seems to be more railroading than player-based, as from experience the BAF outnumber the KNF more often than not, and end up with minor (or more) victories.

However, an idea like this sounds awesome.
