A saner escape plan - Yazov - 08-17-2022

Guerrero Asteroid Cloud, Vespucci

Enterprise has been drifting in the Guerrero cloud for three days straight; all before the eyes of the crew were orange gases of nebula that also performed the role of disguise, both visual and radioelectronic. Radio chatter was kept to bare minimum, patrol activity from the dreadnought - nonexistent, Thatch laid in wait for a convenient moment for extraction and awaiting for determining the escape route.

Jane summoned her first mate - suprisingly, a Kusarian, whose appearance in Insurgency was as much of a grey area as Thach's own arrival is, but some hints suggest she's a part of Kusari invasion fleet remnants that got isolated in Leeds with Gallia's emergence.
Now, they leaned over zoomed in navigation map, encompassing Vespucci and surrounding systems. The map itself was full of custom marks, and separately opened Vespucci map was even more saturated with assorted marks labelling enemy partrols, wrecks littering the battlefield and occassional victims of quick clashes. All of it had to be stuied in order to devise the best way out.

"There is generally three options that then open up for a greater set of opportunities - Inverness, Magellan, Kansas," - first mate spoke, pointing at anomalies in order of her speech. - "Kansas and subsequently Texas - is a death wish. Yes, it has just a single opponent single opponent's presence is so abundant locking down all exits out of the system is a matter of speed of reaction and I can't imagine the Navy taking it easy. And they've got an entire stellar system as forewarning, we'll be waltzing into the blockade, and Enterprise will be fending for itself, there'll be no help coming."

Kuroda took a small pause and cleared her throat.

"Magellan and Inverness are interchangeable and lead us to the same routes, though Inverness is generally less risky, more lenient in terms of passage for us - and for our escorts, The Order will be with the Enterprise during almost the entire flight. And we've got to rely on our escorts in our escape."

Thach was silent. Based on their intel on the routes, that was the best possible evaluation. For Enterprise, windows of opportunity have shrunk to an absolute minimum now, remaining adrift much longer and waiting for fate's mercy gets no one nowhere. She'd once again look over the bridge, out at the orange hues of Leniex cloud.

"Helm, change course to Inverness. I'm getting us all off these rocks."

A flight to Inverness was uneventful, this for Enterprise was still a safe space - well, for a given amount of safe when you're hounded by Liberty, Bretonia and even some former allies. Can't drop your guard around anyone, not even imply someone but your escorts mean well. Outside, Forres was going through it's usual cycle and, glancing outside at it, Jane was pondering over something, or just impatiently waiting.

The bridge was it's regular bustling anthill of assorted personnel, watching the surrounding space through sensors most advanced to date to monitoring the ship's subsystems, everything was running smoothly, and Order escorts were going to arrive any moment now. That looks like a lucky streak for them as the space is relatively clear so far. Thach walked deeper into the interiors and approached a figure in a wheelchair, addressing her.

"It's bittersweet to leave like this, I know, but Lance didn't want you to die in that dire situation, and I'm carrying on with her legacy. It's in you, too."

Jade had been more or less quiet ever since she had been brought onboard the Enterprise for evacuation. Confined to the wheelchair and unable to use her legs, she was depressed. She had atleast anticipated to die alongside anyone else on Marshall should the station, or given the situation, when the station was destroyed. Instead she was here, being taken away from the battlefield. She was still feeling the sting of Knights loyalists killing her own crew on the Harmony before hijacking the vessel, but there was nothing she could do about it. Suffering from the low quality spine surgery, she was finally bedridden just a month before Liberty began it's campaign.

"Leaving like this isn't what I deserve, or what anyone who dies back there deserved. If anything I should've been there with them, advising is all I'm good for now anyway, confined to this chair. There's no group out there that would provide me with the medical services I need. I'll be stuck here for life, so I fail to see the purpose of trying to keep me alive like this. I understand your sense of duty, but what about mine?"

RE: A saner escape plan - Omicron - 08-31-2022

Hum of the triple cluster of engines worked calmly on the pilot's psyche. He spent his entire life around these marvellous machines, first learning how to fix them… and once he was old enough, piloting them. Time has passed, ranks gained and despite achieving the very top, he still wanted to get his hands on controls of a space fighter. Good thing he had precedence of The Order’s founder himself, Casper Orillion who created a pattern of leaders being close to the action rather reclusive in a bunker deep underground of Akabat. He recalled some of the details, just to ensure he’s got it all.

...Admiral Golanski sat comfortably in the briefing room, in a chair dedicated normally to the wing commander. Looking at approximate visualisation of the Coronado system. Him and three other pilots were planning, commenting and judging how to best approach the situation. Exchanging each other’s experiences, they were drawing multiple orbital transits that would get them safely out of the system.

“The first wave reported Bretonian blockades operating all over this side of the Independent Worlds. We will use data gained to plot a course to evade being spotted in Coronado“ He drew the line, the orbit that on the in-system FTL engine would take them past dangers they had been trying to evade for the past few days. Bretonian destroyers - fast and deadly - easily capable of catching up and pinning any capital ship, Enterprise included. Gunboats belonging to the Liberty Navy have also been reported to scour Inverness for any potential ships trying to run the blockade.

“Jumpholes cannot be screened forever. There are not enough warships in-system, nor will the Outcasts and other scum let them camp it forever. We will launch on the next window of opportunity and approach Inverness jumphole. Once we confirm it is clear, we will transmit a signal through the FTL relay located there. The ping may be noticed on the public network, so we better not linger around and hit the gas."

“Our calling name will be Tau 1 though 4. I will take over number two’s spot as Lieutenant Duran is still in the medical. While I will have control over strategic considerations, tactical command over the wing itself will be in the hands of yours Number One. Just so there aren’t any misunderstandings once in space…”

Ping on the radar display got him out of the stupor. This was not the enemy, neutral or even allied target. Quick inspection revealed that they had crossed 15 klicks perimeter of a jumphole, and were closing the remaining distance fast. Officer Roka, occupying number 3 sounded off all clear as fighters decelerated to non relativistic speeds and fanged out for maximum efficiency, pinging vicinity with their powerful sensors actively for any sign of life. For the time being, all he could hear is yet again, the now subdued rumble of the engine now operating at impulse speed and his own breathing. No ambush materialised, not even a single freighter to witness them. War was good for business, until it wasn’t… and certainly there was little economic interest in this god forsaken corner of independent worlds… only death.

Calibrating the communications console, Michal sent a premade message via laser link to nearby comm buoy. In absence of jumpgates, which was the case for the majority of Sirius Sector, they had to rely on specialised devices able to tunnel information packages in a way to survive relatively undisturbed though hyperspace until it could be picked out by a paired device on the other side of the jumphole. For all intents and purposes it was lousy, especially the ones set up not by The Order but local pirate cartels… but it was necessary. Now we wait…

Liberty Dreadnought appeared out of nowhere. Ejected safely across lightyears, the hull of once proud defender of Liberty spurred its enormous engine, pulsed fusion drive accelerating this machine of war towards nominal flank speed. It was the Enterprise, currently in service to the failing Insurgency. Michal never felt any ties or even sliver of sympathy to their cause - he never was raised in the Houses, or lived there for long enough to understand it as well as they did. What he did respect was self-determination, and the iron will to survive that Captain Thach displayed by her daring attempt to escape doom at Veracruz. He knew it all too well, he fought on Toledo after all, buying as much time as possible as part of the rearguard. He called Enterprise on the comms. Time for talk would come later.

“Miss Thach. We have to move out... now. I am uploading coordinates right now.”

Enterprise has been looming at the rendevous point for ample time, anticipating escorts' arrival, an area secure to the point not even local inhabitants, the Technocrats, are yet to make a move on attempting to repossess the valuable warship; this was no reason to let guard down, this merely meant majority of blockades are lying ahead. Little doubt there is that just about anyone along the way will be eager to lay hands on the Enterprise - or destroy it should the blockade plans fail.

Thach audibly scoffed at Linford's remark.

"If your sense of duty tells you to stay behind a die a meaningless death then there's something wrong with it, Jade. That's not what Lance risked her all for, and not what she asked me to take you out. And with the support I've garnered... we might be able to get you back on feet, so don't get sulking over wasted time and efforts just yet. But that's all to sort out once we're out to safety - for a given amount of safety Omicrons provide."

The radar blared with multiple contacts emerging from West Alvemore, a total of four, identified as Order ships - the escorts have arrived in the nick of time, tight-beam short range transmission reaching communication and navigation officers mere moments after, the support party spent no time on idle waiting or chatter. More power was diverted to monolithic, titanic fusion drive accelerating the massive vessel past aforementioned nominal flank speed - to sub-relativistic.
Massive warship had lost most of it's gloss it had right after commission - meeting it's baptism of fire in hands of a different commanding officer in Bering, as well as subsequent incorporation into Insurgency, where it fought a fighting retreat all the way to Vespucci, that have temporarily became it's base operations for raids into adjacent systems. Clearly, it have seen proper maintenance shortly before departure in an actual drydock, though it's exact disposition remains unknown; even replaced plating were littered with energy weapon marks of all sizes, reinforced and restored to operative nominal values.

Either way, Enterprise now plotting course and surging through cold emptiness of space looked rather like a war-steeled veteran, scarred, but not crippled - she is still able to stand up to nearly anyone and emerge victorious - it depends not only on the excelling mastodon.

To Michal, a short message was an answer.

"Course is plotted and Enterprise is on the move."
