A rodeo on New Pecos - Victor Steiner - 11-21-2022

Ice, snow and frozen winds greeted the director as he, for the third time this year, found himself in Crayterian space once again. He didn't think much of being summoned by anyone, nor for that matter did he think much of the Fleet Admiral's plan to simply attack Auxesia and blow them out of existence, as if they weren't prepared for such a possibility.

Now he was being summoned by the CIS of all groups to meet on some frozen hellscape for reasons he wasn't fully sure of. No doubt the agent, 'Shepard', would get an ego boost from summoning the great and famous Steiner. He marched out of the civilian transport with his cane in hand. He did not anticipate this to be a long or violent trip, still he thought it prudent to bring his sidearm and hidden blade jut in case. Eventually he cleared customs on his diplomatic visa, no doubt that would send alarm bells up to the Crayterian Government at some point but for now, it was enough to say he was expected.

Making his way through the star ports interior he found a bar, sat down and waited. A look of displeasure lining his face, there were a million things currently in motion, time was not an ally, still She had requested he be a bastion of alliance, so after a stiff drink he decided to relax, egos aside there might be something of value to be gained here.

RE: A rodeo on New Pecos - Agent S - 11-24-2022

Agent S trudged through the military outpost attached to the star port in New hope with his respirator in hand. Still tired from his transit out of Inverness that took a week for an opening to pop up. He came to a side meeting room and found 2 other CIS agents there talking. He entered trying to warm himself up from the bitter cold and started listening in on any updates within the republic. Though all it seemed like was an old ladies gossip group. It's the quickest you can find out who ever messed up last.

A sighting here, a disappearance there. It didn't matter much to him, he had bigger fish to fry. About 15 minutes pass and the quarter master of the port barges in, "We got a blip on the radar! We got a 'Victor Steiner' just entering the star port". The other agents started fussing as to why a foreign intelligence director is doing on our planet. Agent S relaxed and leaned on the table, "pay him no mind, he's expected". The other personnel in the room stopped and made a target of Agent S. "What do you mean he's expected? Why wasn't I informed?" "Did you seriously invite him here?", lastly the quartermaster shouted "I aught to have your head for bringing him here!". All 3 CIS agents went silent as they slowly turned to the quartermaster.

Agent S now as cold as the winter outside. "You want to say those words to me again? I have my own interests to pursue and if you try that again they'll have to fine a hole and a new quartermaster. Do you understand?". The quartermaster now at attention knowing the mistake he just made, "Yes sir". Agent S still not relenting, "I invited him here, and didn't even expect him to show up. Now, I have a guest to meet". He made for the door and as he exited, "Guess bretonians will do anything if you promise them tea". Agent S latched his respirator to his face and headed for his freighter, he had a promise to keep.

It never seemed to matter how much you wear. Pecos will always find its way in, and freeze you inside first. Agent S entered his freighter as fast as he could to keep the cold out. It didn't help. He rummaged through seemingly every compartment within the ship and couldn't find what he needed. "Where is that dammed thing!" the agent thought. Only to find it in the last place he looked. A small portable kettle, 2 cups, and the bag of expensive tea(that costs way too much) that he found on Sierra Starport on his way to Pecos. He closed up the ship and headed to the port to find his guest. With the cold biting him in every step.

When a handful of not so inconspicuous looking people arrived and began sitting around the handful to exits he became vaguely aware that his presence was now known. He didn't do anything other another scotch from the bar, if he was going to be arrested, he would rather enjoy himself a little. That was until his host made himself known. He looked tired, as if he had been burdened by a long flight, or crushing news of some sort, whatever the case he knew the feeling well himself. He waited patiently as his host sat down opposite him and made himself comfortable. Mister Shepard I assume. He asked before taking another sip of his drink You look like hell.

RE: A rodeo on New Pecos - Agent S - 11-24-2022

"If it wasn't hell, then I worry for what lies beyond for us" Agent S said as he collapsed into his seat. He started unpacking a bag containing a little tea set. "Or perhaps it means we're already dead!" He chuckled as he turned the kettle on. "Hope I didn't keep you waiting? It's a long walk in the bitter cold." He rubbed his hands together and hugged himself after shedding some of the frozen layers of clothing. Desperate to get rid of a shiver. "What news hails from bretonia, hm?"

RE: A rodeo on New Pecos - Victor Steiner - 11-24-2022

Victor smiled at the sight of the tea set, Put that bloody thing away and get yourself a proper drink man. He said as he waved the waitress over Whiskey warms the blood as well as the soul, it will keep the chill out of your bones. Then we can have a tea. He took a drink himself as if to reiterate the point. Now. Bretonia is fine, however I have questions. In point of fact it's rather good you invited me here, I have some questions of my own. Auxesia is one thing but I also would like to ask about the Taus. However, before I get ahead of myself, let me ask you; What is it you wanted to discuss?

RE: A rodeo on New Pecos - Agent S - 11-24-2022

Agent S tapped the the tin can. "Think the water's frozen anyways. Waitress! I'll have a glass of white wine, it's a hankering I've been having." He sat back in his seat and patted his legs trying to get the blood moving. Trying to collect his thoughts.

"Well, best cover the big topic of Inverness first. I went in with a survey team and armed escort. A pretty heavy one at that and lost them all half way through. I was stuck in the system for a week dodging patrols but got adequate intel." As he finished the waitress brought him his drink. He gave his thanks as she returned to the bar. "Like you said, 'you look like hell', and we'll be sending men into hell from what I found out." Shepard sipped the wine slowly to try and enjoy the taste. "They're dug in deep and will only dig deeper as it gets closer to the invasion. With a good path to run once they figure out there'll be no chance to stay. Their allies are showing their faces looking to put a quick end to any disruption, but we've found out they have more enemies than just us. Seems someone is chewing up their supply lines and spitting them out as scrap. Word from the vine at least. No matter what it'll be costly, for everyone."

The kettle beeps alerting the drinking agent that it's ready to pour. "Took long enough." He reached for his bag bringing out the tea and putting a teabag in each cup to be poured. "Jasmine green, recommended by a friend", as he poured. "Costs way too much in my opinion, that or it's hard to find way out here. Now, you said you have some questions for me Victor?" Shepard slid Victors cup to him and continued sipping his wine.

RE: A rodeo on New Pecos - Victor Steiner - 11-24-2022

As he had suspected, the Admiralty's grand plan of deploying support forces for the invasion were woefully insufficient, Bretonia would have to deploy adequate combat forces and risk a disaster like the one befallen in Vespucci or call it off. They needed help and there was no way in hell Liberty was going to get involved, the Crayterians were likewise probably unwilling to commit more men to the fight. If you have a list of these allies, or those who could respond in time to aid them, I'd like to see it. As for the supply lines that would have something to do with the Corsairs. I've made contact with a handful of individual Cretan pilots who would want nothing more to settle a score with them. I don't know the exact nature of why but they have been passing information along to us about Auxesian movements in Rheinland. I have my agents investigating at the moment.

He paused to finish his scotch before taking a cup of tea, setting it aside while it cooled he leaned forward and placed his hands on the table, getting a little more involved in the conversation. There are...developments in the Taus and...potentially...how shall I say, uncomfortable relationships that might be formed between the Service and, well the Maltese. I am fully aware you and yours don't care for them but there seems to be something that might come about from allowing a specific individual through the region unmolested. This was not a conversation he was looking forward to.

RE: A rodeo on New Pecos - Agent S - 11-24-2022

Shepard stopped mid sip of his wine with a glare. He put down his glass and and stared at Steiner. "We don't care for them much at all, Mr. Steiner. Attempted genocide isn't always welcomed, as you bretonians may know from royal gallia. It better be worth the effort and time to tell me to let even one pass." Shepard twirls his glass and finish's his drink. Continuing to stare at the foreign director with great discontent. He raises his glass and calls to the waitress, "Sweetheart I'll need the whole bottle today, and some sugar! Forgive me director but I think I'll need this." Shepard tried his tea but already knew he'd need the sugar. "All we have for certain is ALG and possible the Rheinland Military. We found out about ALG during the NATO exercise about 2 weeks ago, they're rather close it seems to have a specific emergency line for contact. There's some Libertonian Admiral spouting about nomads helping them, as well as an insurgency informant referencing this, so maybe it does have some merit."

The waitress arrives with the requested wine with some sugar packs. He pours himself another glass, tips it towards Steiner in a "cheers" motion, and takes a sip. "The rest is still classified even for you, especially since you're asking me for something outside our little aux problem. I will need a very good answer as to why you want an Outcast untouched and an offer making it worth my time." He waves to the other shady people around the bar and motions them to leave, which they do. Leaving only the 2 intelligence agents alone with all the alcohol 2 could drink. Agent S leans to the table returning Steiner's position. "I'm listening..."

RE: A rodeo on New Pecos - Victor Steiner - 11-25-2022

It was a fair position, what he was asking wasn't ideal and the cultural trauma the Outcasts had inflicted upon Crayter was hard to sympathise with. Naturally a deal could be made, the very fact that Shepard was willing to even listen was a start. This particular individual seems to possess knowledge regarding certain anomalies floating around Sirius that we are taking an interest in, they also seem to have connections with the Golden Chrysanthemums and...possibly the Xeno Alliance, although I can't be certain about that. Anyway, those connections are valuable to us, what with Kusari now advancing into Tau-31. If She, it's a she by the way, does have some connection with the Xenos it might be benefical to us as well.

He paused and took a sip of the tea he was given, collecting his thoughts for a moment before he continued I am happy to share whatever information she provides with you. This isn't an ideal arrangement I know, and I certainly don't make it lightly. But if she can provide us with what she says she can then it would be invaluable. If not, then we'll 'retire' her. We are not in a position to be turning down possible assets I'm sorry to say, I don't know how it is for you.

RE: A rodeo on New Pecos - Agent S - 12-07-2022

Shepard took a pause of his own to ponder the deal. Now what kind of anomalies are they after and how does this 'she' have some kind of expertise in them? It didn't seem that bad of a deal, one outcast not killed for some kind of high risk information. Must be worth it if Steiner's willing to risk it. The agent straightened his posture for a sip of tea. Well I think I can let 'her' go, I'll have to listen to radio chatter incase 'she' walks into our raid parties in the northern taus. Tau-31 may be a bit more problematic, but I'll be heading that way for my own interests. There is apparently a 'school of thought' gathering on Harris about concerns with Gallia. You might find some sympathizers there too, if you need.
