Hi everyone, I'm Both Multiplayer and Discovery newb, - Bratjuuc - 11-28-2022 Hi, everyone! I'm Both Multiplayer and Discovery newb. I have played Freelancer vanilla in single player dozens of times, but I have very little Multiplayer experience. I've only played Sirius Revival for a couple of sessions and half of the times the server was pretty empty. (The mod is unforgiving af). I chose Discovery as Sirius Revival's vanilla spacemap is exhausted for me, there is nothing left to discover. After reading the server's rules, I was surprised by how strict they are. I just wanted to scout this mod, to figure our how to play it and which possibilities I have, due to how advanced the mod is compared to the vanilla, but I fear to break any of the rules. Even the tip on the server says "Playing Discovery is tough, don't be afraid of asking questions of the forum". So far I just earned a bit of money for a simple ship and I want to discover the world to see how it works. I really want to join some Navy forces in the future, but I don't feel being ready to do so yet. I'm not sure I can identify myself as anyone, except as a freelancer that just roams around, scouting the Sirius sector, and doesn't really have tangible goals. I'm interested in learning what RP activities I can perform, depending on the faction I'm in. I'm interested in how different the gameplay of this mod is compared to the vanilla: what (does/doesn't) works here that (doesn't/does) in vanilla, what's new, new habits/tricks I should have, know... How to engage with other players without breaking the RP. What playstyle I shouldn't engage in. How to play events correctly. What faction is recommended for me depending on my interests. And so on... I'm also looking for a group to join in the near future and participate in the activity. I will gladly respond to your invitations, if you wish to invite me. Best regards, and have a good flight. RE: Hi everyone, I'm Both Multiplayer and Discovery newb, - Victor Steiner - 11-28-2022 Welcome. I would advise you get yourself a discord if don't already have one so you can jump on in to some factions and the main server as well. You can find various groups there and people to talk to who will be able to help you out with whatever you need. The staff are also there and are fairly active in their communications. Have a fly around and you'll find someone you want to talk with. RE: Hi everyone, I'm Both Multiplayer and Discovery newb, - Traudel Habermeyer - 11-28-2022 Oh, how lovely! More newcomers. Welcome, welcome. As Steiner already said, the discord is a great place to get started and either read up on some older questions or just ask some of your own. Most factions have their own as well. Playing a Freelancer for the first days/weeks or whatever is a sound idea, as it gives you the greatest freedom to go where you want and less 'restrictions' what you can do or can't do and which ships and weapons to use in House space without breaking their iRP laws. Or let me rephrase that ... as a Freelancer you can do a lot more things than with a more specific ID. Me, for instance, on my Rheinwehr char could in theory fly to the heart of Liberty - but in doing so i'd be breaking quite a lot of iRP rules and stirr up the pot. My usual area tends to be the sovereign territory of my own House and mainly its borders. So there'd be questions. Why is Rheinland Military here? What are they doing here? According to Liberty law they'd then have to escort me out otherwise deal with me... and so on and so forth. I had been in your shoes only a couple months before and remember how daunting of a task it seemed to get properly acquainted with the rules and how things are done here. In the end it is a lot more natural than you'd think Enjoy your time here! RE : Bonjour à tous, je suis à la fois multijoueur et Discovery newb, - Elvinos2003 - 11-28-2022 Welcome to you, new player. Know it is a Role Play server. Your actions have consequences and sometimes, if you play bad, consequences can be hard to accept. If you have questions, staff and other players can answer. See you in space. RE: Hi everyone, I'm Both Multiplayer and Discovery newb, - Binski - 11-28-2022 Welcome! The rules are detailed for a video game but they are what has ensured depth of the RP world here and aren't so bad once you get used to them. Common beginner mistakes to avoid; -Flying wrong ID for ship size -Flying with more than one ID -Disconnecting during interactions, especially pvp, to avoid consequences (like disconnecting to leave the game before losing a fight if you cant get to a base) (if accidental make sure to post here) -Docking to escape pvp and relaunching to resume fighting (trade ships can relaunch to try to escape and keep going, if your docking to escape counts as a combat docking you must wait the timer before refurning to fight in that system, or same player at all). -Respawning after being blown up to rejoin the same fight/ immediate revenge attack (must wait the hour) -Speaking out of character, especially in system wide chat (try to minimize oorp chat, use a // to start oorp chat to show it's out of character) -Attacking other players without proper initiating roleplay (unless the ID states otherwise, at least 2 lines of intelligible English pertaining to your attack is bare minimum) The rest takes time, and don't forget the Laws Of Sirius as well, especially if planning to smuggle, or fly capital ship. Safe flying! I have a question regarding the correct ID: if I just purchased a transport for mining and trading, will my Freelancer ID do, or do I need something like IMG or trader Id Edit: it has less than 3600 cargo space, so it's okay according to the Freelancer ID's description. RE: Hi everyone, I'm Both Multiplayer and Discovery newb, - Toaster - 11-30-2022 From the Mining Guide: Quote:The Freelancer ID is used for miners who do not wish to affiliate themselves to any faction. The Freelancer ID allows mining of any commodity type, at a slower rate, with any affiliation. The Indie Freelancer ID can mine any ore in any freighter and transports up to 3.6k cargo size. I have a question regarding the correct ID: if I just purchased a transport for mining and trading, will my Freelancer ID do, or do I need something like IMG or trader Id Yes indeed, and you can mine reasonably fast as a Freelancer, but what ship you use also depends on how fast a rate you get. The guide usually says which ship's turret slots should be used for mining turrets, and that helps you get the best rate you can. You can technically mine with any ship but it may be slow going. Some have dedicated mining turret slots that if used speed things up. Otherwise the IMG is a step up, and if you use a miner ship, IMG ID and IFF, you'd get the fastest ore mining rate around. Same with the Junker ID/IFF for premium scrap/military salvage, etc. And Junkers have the Salvager which is a tough, fast mining large transport. Similarly I now use the Dunlin as a Freelancer miner transport. With a proper Freelancer ID/IFF and its proper slots used for mining turrets, you can mine anything at a fairly reasonable rate. You'll always get the fastest rate possible though with a dedicated mining ID like IMG, BMM, GMG, Kruger, Junker. |
