Afflicted by nostalgia... - FallenKnight - 12-16-2022 Hello there guys! It's been a long time since I was around. To be honest I seem to be afflicted by a sudden touch of nostalgia to visit this game again, for a bit. There is very little free time to spare but flying around and observing how things have changed over these years is making me smile. There are so many changes and quality updates - ships got new names, new weapon options available for a faction including for capital ships, a lot "scars" from the wars - debris everywhere, some bases I knew are destroyed and others are new,. I am pleasantly surprised that even my old project for the cockpits/bridges is still here - overall I am overwhelmed in the good way by the level of customization options available to the players. Kudos to all of you still out there keeping this community alive and the mod online. I am full of questions but will ask the general ones. - As player from the bretonia community - what is our stand towards: Kusari. the new government of Gallia and Imperial Rheinland? Is Edinburgh a border world now? Which faction lacks activity - for example I see BPA) is not present in the sub forum section of official factions from Bretonia. After the Gallic war - could you mark important events that occurred? - As former [TBH] - who is in charge of them and may I fly Pita since it's not been deleted due to inactivity? - As former Khara| - same question like above - who is the leader and may I fly my old nomad character Il'lume? - To admins - considering my few ships from 2019 are still active am I able to participate in returning player (Just asking out of curiosity - I can handle without it) RE: Afflicted by nostalgia... - Traudel Habermeyer - 12-16-2022 Afraid i can't really answer any of those questions properly for you, but that doesn't stop me from wishing you a warm welcome back and expressing my joy of seeing more and more people returning! If it was you who did the cockpits/bridges then kudos right back for this Very glad you like what has happened so far to Disco. I am certain soon enough the folks with answers will come in. Hit me up on discord if you want to be in the TBH discord as a member or independent DavidProud#4126 RE: Afflicted by nostalgia... - Darius - 12-16-2022 Welcome back, Admiral Piett. I can lead you through the recent changes in Bretonia. Our present stance towards Kusari is that of distrust, but out of necessity, Bretonia has signed a treaty with them and Crayter to sell most of Planet Harris' agricultural landscape in return for a lot of revenue generated from it. The "alliance", if one may call it that, has little chances of holding together once Bretonia is back on its legs, and with it will come a return to neutral/very very icy relations, perhaps even border conflicts out in Tau-31 and 29 respectively. Bretonia's stance towards the Gallic Union is the same it had towards the monarchy -- open hostility. Why, you may ask? Well, plainly put, they refused to pay reparations and extradite the former Gallic Royal Navy officers who led the Glassing of Leeds and other brutal attacks against Bretonia and Liberty respectively. Those events, corroborated by the rivalry generated through the presence of resources in Tau-23 -- resources that both Houses need -- has led to the general stance towards Gallia being "shoot first, ask questions later." In regards to Rheinland, Bretonia remains divided onto how important cooperation with them is. On one hand, you've got SIS, with the Steiner family and several RM officers, among which the current RM Grand Admiral, hold close ties. They represent the pro-Imperial side of Bretonia. On the other side, you've got my character, who's also the current Fleet Admiral of the BAF, which covertly opposes cooperation with the Imperial Family of Rheinland, viewing them as weak and incapable of leading the House after the bloodshed caused in the Civil War. Sommerville, alongside other hardliners in the BAF and government, represent the anti-Imperial side of Bretonia, though they do not wish to push for conflict any time soon, instead wishing to profit off of Rheinland as an impromptu client state. This is more of a double edged sword than anything, as seen in recent Auxo events, where Bretonia has pushed for their removal, while Rheinland has refused to do so, and with that, sparked some concerns in the Bretonian government. The Sommerville/Steiner power struggle is not yet that "materialized", but you will see that it plays an important role into how Bretonia roleplays with other entities, with both sides wanting to push for stronger ties to groups they have trust in. But, that's a topic for another time. Concerning Edinburgh, it is indeed now a Border World, as the BAF, respectively BPA, are unable to secure it beyond Perth Station, and even there only a token force exists. Sneeze in its general direction and Edinburgh goes completely out of Bretonia's grasp. Bretonian factions that lack activity are BPA, Gateway and Planetform. Indies exist for them, but they don't log that often. It would be extremely appreciated if anyone could get them up and going again, but it may be too early for doing so; waiting for the next patch may be a better choice. As for events that unfolded after the Gallic War... it's a long list. The most important are:
Hope that helps. Hit me up if you need more answers. Or questions. RE: Afflicted by nostalgia... - St.Denis - 12-16-2022 Welcome back Fallen. I will answer the last question. Seeing as you have close to a billion credits and a few equiped ships, you don't really qualify for the helping hand, to get started again, that the Vateran Package offers. Yeah, definitely, not only are you in the discord under the sleepyboy role, you're also still in the roster too. RE: Afflicted by nostalgia... - FallenKnight - 12-17-2022 @ "Traudel Habermeyer" - Thanks for the warm welcome! @Elvinos2003 and @JorgeRyan - Thanks for the information. Jorge I will PM you when Pita wokes up from her slumber. I remember you - It was you that buildher Titan! @"DariusCiprian" - Hello there fleet admiral! Good to see my former favorite faction is still around, official and lead properly. Thank you for explaining the "situation". - By the look of it I hope we wont end up buying cheap sushi from Stokes again - compared to Gallic war, the Kusari one was a huge attrition for players in the old Leeds - but also had its moments and cool battles. I wonder which would be a suitable front if such a war ever happens (hope not). - About Gallia - from what I understand this Tau situation is turning the table of diplomacy upside down so they are "unfriendly/hostile" to us (correct me if I am wrong). - The Rheinland situation sounds very "game of thron-ish" and interesting. From what I read on the forum this "change of color" (to yellow) and generally switching to Empire is something new for a freelancer core House. Such changes are delivering a lot of opportunities. I hope Steiner and his schemes are all about the "greater good of Bretonia" but like you mentioned it we will see in time. - Loosing Edinburgh like that, considering it's so close to Bretonia is troublesome. But to be honest I always disliked this system - all this RP around planet Gaia gets a little more dull in time than it had to be. In general - not a big loss to me, but a loss none the less. - Planetform as NPC faction (and of great importance to terminating planets) sounds great. Ingame - it was always impossible/not even close to actually do what they do in other sci-fi games for example. Trading commodities alone is not inspiring enough to make a player join a "world shapers" faction. Perhaps if the devs add something close to "mining" mechanic but around the planet's surface as if the "planetform ships" are terraforming ingame (to be profitable at some extent) then some crazy folks may do try to RP around it. - Very sorry to heard BPA and Gateway are disbanded. From experience - both wars caused partially this issue - simply because BAF ships were needed more than just BPA (when you have full military forces flying around, BPA would then best serve on ground to maintain order than space) - But that doesnt mean I disrespect BPA)...on contrary this faction always had great experienced leaders which did their best to handle internal pirate issues. Same goes for Gateway - [Convoy] and Bowex) created excellent atmosphere to play part of huge trading convoys with heavy escorts. Gateway felt a bit left in the corner. (This was and maybe still is a fact that disco have a lot of faction and few players to handle them all) - Why is Bretonia and Liberty losing their alliance? They are no longer...close neighbors as they are supposed to be during two huge wars? - Kusari invading Gallia made me laugh. I remember when the old Emperor of Kusari decided to pay a visit to Leeds and got his fleet cut in half by Gallia (leadin to creation of Ronins etc...) to hear they are committing this act sounds...logical "pay back time". The only issue I see - how did Kusari managed to rebuild all fleets so fast? (From what I remember they were working with Gallia, trading and stuff like that - are you telling me they are hitting Gallia with their own rocks? @St.Denis - Hello old friend! Good to see you around. No worries about the question - I wanted to be sure. All's good @The_Godslayer Thank you - my Anzu is armed and ready. I will PM you when I got more time. RE: Afflicted by nostalgia... - Darius - 12-17-2022 "- Why is Bretonia and Liberty losing their alliance?" Officially, because Liberty broke an important treay. Unofficially, internal lobbying (inRPly, not ooRPly) in the government of Bretonia has also led down this path, though that mattered much less. The relations between both Houses are back to vanilla-like levels, where some agreements exist, but no official alliance is in place. "are you telling me they are hitting Gallia with their own rocks?" Indeed. Kusari remilitarized extremely fast and also had the best battleships for a good while. Coupled up with internal chaos in the Confederacy, the result was a floor wipe with the Confederal Defence Forces. RE: Afflicted by nostalgia... - Jayenbee - 12-17-2022 That's an old name I never thought I'd see back here. Good to see you again @FallenKnight ! |
