To: Captain Edwin Pennybrooke ⚡ From: Liz Krest - Liz Krest - 01-13-2023 ...hack.initiated...connecting.to.Spyglass.Network...decryption.in.progress... ...Deceiver.Liz.Krest.recognized...encoding.transmission... ...uploading.data... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Mister Pennybrooke, I hope your trip ended peacefully and you reached your destination without any interruptions. I have, of course, been keeping my eyes on the Renaissance and I am pleased to know your trips around Sirius are proceeding nicely. I also hope that you've given some thought to our discussion and you did not let it go as something uninteresting and invaluable. Most people are blind to the truth, mister Pennybrooke. Those that represent today's corporate oligarchy do not see the world as it is, but rather as they foolishly envision it to be; a boring life surrounded by corruption and filth, a non-engaging reality of working, sleeping and repeating the process until their inevitable death ends the process. You, mister Pennybrooke, are a surprisingly awoken specimen for a man of your status. You choose to not be blind towards the corruption that surrounds you and you are willing to go the extra step to defend those of us that choose honest work over corporate deception, fraudulency and manipulation. It is no random occasion nor an incident involving luck that you caught my interest. Of course, not everyone is as willing as I am to dive deeper into the subject and reveal the true human nature behind a seemingly corporate figure such as yours. Most would pick the path of claiming the bounties on your head and profiting off of that, but I see the greater picture. I see someone capable of helping those that fight for a good cause, and I hope my vision of you is correct. I will go into more detail on the subject if you're interested in the work I spoke to you about in our brief meeting. It is nothing that will take a lot of effort or time from your busy schedule. Shall I consider you involved, mister Pennybrooke? RE: To: Captain Edwin Pennybrooke ⚡ Liz Krest - Karst - 01-13-2023 ![]() Ms Krest;
We've faced no major hurdles on our travels, and I'm pleased to say that as I had expected, the client response to our encounter was mostly positive. As I told you at the time, everyone really does love a bit of excitement, as long as it ends on a high note.
Now typically, I would start such a letter with affirmation that it is 'good to hear' from my counterpart, though I'm not entirely convinced in this case. You appear to be mixing a level of rather esoteric praise with what I suppose should be unsurprising disdain for those in a position like mine, and are leaving me quite puzzled in the process. I'm normally quite adept at discerning a person's motivation - that is, after all, much of what my day job requires - but I must admit you have me struggling. And fights for causes are admittedly not within my usual line of work, unless you consider the pursuit of leisure and the broadening of experience of our fellow persons across the sector to be such, which I certainly do myself. Still, I appreciate what I read as cautious goodwill towards my person on your part, and I did say I would at least consider any business venture suggested, so, I'll be happy to listen. ~ Edwin Pennybrooke ![]() RE: To: Captain Edwin Pennybrooke ⚡ From: Liz Krest - Liz Krest - 01-13-2023 ...hack.initiated...connecting.to.Spyglass.Network...decryption.in.progress... ...Deceiver.Liz.Krest.recognized...encoding.transmission... ...uploading.data... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Why don't we get right on to business then, mister Pennybrooke. I have a shipment of... human cargo that needs moving to Omicron Alpha, Planet Malta specifically. Now I am aware I could just move that cargo myself, but there is a glaring problem in that I do not own a transport fit for the cause. Would be quite awful to stack up a bunch of very valuable humans on the improperly manufactured cargo-hold of a transport not fit for that job, after all. I have a contact of my own that can handle filling up your liner with the necessary cargo, it's going to be an easy trip in and out, my contact will escort you to ensure that you will not be asked any funny questions by any friends of mine you might run into. The meet-up with my contact will happen on the far-side of Planet Manhattan, the one facing the Jersey Debris Field. The drop-off at Malta will be simple, you dock and wait for your cargo to be unloaded by trained professionals. They can then fill up your transport with a load of cardamine for the return trip back to Liberty. Once you make it back to Liberty and successfully drop the cardamine off at a location that your escort will indicate, this very short adventure will be finished. As I have already told you, mister Pennybrooke, I cannot be certain that this job will ensure you, your crew's and your ship's security against the likes of my allies, but rumors spread quickly amongst Liberty's underworld, captain. Perhaps the ones that will be told about the LL-Renaissance and it's... adventures will suffice to keep most credit-hungry pirates off you, for a duration of time. That certainly sounds like a daring adventure and one I'd be lying to say I weren't excited for, even though I do tend to steer a fair bit away from Malta in general. They are Outcast for a reason after all, I'd imagine even their closer clients retain a sense of nervousness when dealing with them.
So, I'm not generally opposed to making such a trip, but there's a serious concern I need clarified first, considering how you speak of said "valuable cargo": We are talking of voluntary passengers here, I hope? I am a humanist, the entire raison d'être of my business is to share my personal love of travel, exploration, and the experience of new cultures and locales with my passengers, and my crew. Taking anyone somewhere against their will is categorically out of the question. ~ Edwin Pennybrooke ![]() RE: To: Captain Edwin Pennybrooke ⚡ From: Liz Krest - Liz Krest - 01-13-2023 ...hack.initiated...connecting.to.Spyglass.Network...decryption.in.progress... ...Deceiver.Liz.Krest.recognized...encoding.transmission... ...uploading.data... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Truly always full of surprises, Captain Pennybrooke. Just when I think that conversing with you cannot get any more exciting, you are there to prove me wrong. A humanitarian! I have colleagues within the Inner Circle who wouldn't even believe it if I told them about what I am witnessing right now. While things would be simpler if you accepted non-voluntary passengers on your vessel, I still have -a lot- more jobs that need fulfilling and not as many people capable of seeing them to completion. Let's give this another shot then. We have intercepted some data and copied it in physical form over certain optical drives for safety of transport. I have a full load of such data currently on Leiden Base and I have sent orders to one of my associates to head to it and prepare the necessary procedures to get the load ready for moving towards the same location - Planet Malta. The return trip from Malta remains the same. My contact will be waiting for you outside Leiden. Are you in, mister Pennybrooke? Again, you are leaving me with conflicting feelings here, grateful for your excitement over and admittedly somewhat amused by your surprise at my philosophical positions, but at the same time disappointed that my concern had seemingly hit the mark. I don't think there's much point in me giving a lecture about how human trafficking is bad and how such practice is particularly harmful to businesses like my own, I'll leave you to judge that on your own terms.
Not having to particularly care about my bottom line to the point of not being tempted by such offers is arguably the greatest advantage of engaging in the business as what is, for all the dedication, sweat, blood, and tax form writing I put into it, a pursuit of passion, not my financial basis. I chose the business of passenger flights simply because I love people, and that is what the business is ultimately about. I have in all likelihood seen hundreds of thousands of faces aboard the Renaissance, and although I obviously can't actively remember every one, each somehow left an impression on the permanent record that is my joy with and love for mankind. At any rate, I'm far more inclined to such a delivery. The ship obviously isn't optimized for electronics, but there are certainly far worse things to transport. You will have to clue us in on the closer coordinates of this Leiden place, though. All I know is rumours of such a place somewhere in the dark matter of the Kusari border worlds. P.S.: If you think conversing with me over written neural net messages is exciting, you should meet me for drinks some time! The bar on the Renaissance is generally open for personal guests. ~ Edwin Pennybrooke ![]() RE: To: Captain Edwin Pennybrooke ⚡ From: Liz Krest - Liz Krest - 01-14-2023 ...hack.initiated...connecting.to.Spyglass.Network...decryption.in.progress... ...Deceiver.Liz.Krest.recognized...encoding.transmission... ...uploading.data... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My initial assumptions of you once again prove to be anything but mistaken, mister Pennybrooke. You are an awoken man living a life that one might call a corporate one, but without being blind to the truth. Instead of abusing the same corruption others do and basing your entire career on top of poor men's shoulders, you are acquiring wealth through honest work and through doing what you love. Many should envy you, mister Pennybrooke, but they do not know any better. Anyhow, returning to the matter at hand, it was rather foolish of me to assume you would know the location of Leiden Base. I'll wait for you myself just outside the Komatsu Cloud, on the Galileo system and at grid D-3. I'll hand over the shipment of the software that needs transporting to you myself. After that, you will remain in that position and await for my associate to contact you. I'll be there in ten minutes. So, this did end up being an exciting little adventure. It is, as your partner mentioned, enjoyable to leave one's comfort zone every once in a while. Though I'm not quite sure this excursion counts since the Renaissance, even if used an unusual manner in unusual places, is my comfort zone, but that's neither here nor there.
I will say that it certainly would have been an easier process to do this on my other ship, but you did seem to want to make a point of it being the flashy one, and I suppose I can see why. There's always an element of playground joy when she's without passengers, and the cargo made for quite an unusual environment. So maybe not something I'd do every day, but I wouldn't hate the occasional repeat. And, although admittedly constituting something of a drop in the ocean type situation, the cash certainly didn't hurt either. <file01> <file02> I'm still not sure I entirely believe that all this was to assuage any vaguely-defined threats allegedly after my head and not more plainly something that you simply wanted doing, but either way. It all turned out well. ~ Edwin ![]() RE: To: Captain Edwin Pennybrooke ⚡ From: Liz Krest - Liz Krest - 01-14-2023 ...hack.initiated...connecting.to.Spyglass.Network...decryption.in.progress... ...Deceiver.Liz.Krest.recognized...encoding.transmission... ...uploading.data... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Mister Pennybrooke, I am pleased to know that my associate did not make things difficult for you and that this adventure was an entertaining one to you. I'll make sure to keep you in mind if I have any other jobs that need doing, perhaps even utilizing your other ships for some shipments. Who knows, maybe the occasional adventure here and there can yield some good profit as well. We will surely be seeing each other around, mister Pennybrooke. Until our next meeting, take care. |
