Forsaken - Implosion - 02-23-2023 ACT I: Beyond the shadows
Scarlet nervously awaited an answer to her holocall. Suddenly, the unit flicked to life and the figure of a man dressed in a Liberty Navy uniform appeared. "What do you want?" - The man said. "What I want is to not have to speak with you, but we can't always get what we want. I've an operative lost in Vespucci. I've sent someone to investigate. You're to aid her and do everything she needs you to do. I don't have to remind you what will happen if you decline, no? You are to meet her on Barbados. For her and your safety, I'll keep the name to myself." -Despite no facial expression on her face, Scarlet was smug about the fact she can boss this man around. - "This individual is of great importance to me, Hackett. I want him alive and very much unharmed, you get me? Get the job done or there will be consequences." "Yeah, yeah. I know. Who..." -The call abruptly ended. -"Frakkin' A." Hackett straightened his uniform and turned towards his XO. "Sam, prep the ship, we're burning for Barbados. This will be a black op, we go dark. Off the grid. We can't risk high command getting wind of our shady dealings. Make sure everything is hush-hush." Hackett walked towards the front of the bridge, crossed his hands behind his back and muttered: "So it begins..." The Liberty Dreadnought's engines screamed as they came back to life. Roaring under the immense load, they propelled the ship onwards, towards its destination. Half an hour later, the ship has reached it's the luxury liner. A Grizly made it's way to Barbados and brought Hackett to the hangar, which was rather luxurious, much like the rest of the ship. Hackett, now in his parade uniform, made his way to the bar. If he wanted to make contact with Scarlet's operative, he had to make sure he'd stick out like a sore thumb in a crowd mainly composed of rich people. He wondered if that was enough and decided to seal the deal with a pitcher of Sangria wine, to draw even more attention to himself. He sat on a couch, at the very center of the bar, poured himself a glass and just laid back on the leather sofa. The furniture sure was better in the civilian sector, he thought. Robert Hackett focused his gaze on the entrance, glass in hand, and just awaited to see who would come in next. If he was lucky, the operative knew his name and would see the name tag on his uniform. RE: Forsaken - Lea Kaufman - 02-24-2023 23th February 830 A.S - System: Vespucci / Barbados liner Today, it was a normal day until she learned about the sudden disappearence of Jack Daniels, the Guildmaster of The Core by Jessica Scarlet, Guildkeeper of the Core. Their last transmission was a week ago. The 13th February was his last transmission to Lea. Scarlet basically said a resume of what happened. She told to Lea that an APM transport was heading for Magellan and in that system, there was nothing else than a single station. It was suspicious. The Rheinlander offered herself to look for Jack because Scarlet needed to focus to ensure that The Core stay stable. She headed for Magellan and nothing on sight. After receiving a transmission from Scarlet saying she needed to head to the liner Barbados located in the Vespucci system. One hour later since the transmission of Scarlet, Lea Kaufman docked on the liner. The hangar was a little bit more luxurious than any other hangars. She changed herself for black clothes. After leaving her Odin MK I, she looked at it for some minutes and then, she walked to bar where she is supposed to meet a certain commander, Robert Hackett. Arriving at the bar, a blond woman with brown eyes wearing black clothes was making her way. She looked a bit everywhere looking for the contact. The bar was full since it is a luxury liner. In fact, it was more rich people. After a while, she took a seat at the bar counter. She ordered a Rheinbier and waited patiently. RE: Forsaken - Implosion - 02-24-2023 Hackett was just finishing his second glass of sangria, when something caught his eye. A stunning woman of Kusarian descent, escorted by two chunky bodyguards entered the bar. "Aha! That looks like top notch merc to me...and she brought backup too." - The man thought. - "Gotta be my contact!" He stood up, straightened his uniform and approached the trio. "Konbanwa, lady! I bet you're here for me, aren't you!" - He said, with a slight smile on his face. Robert was a rather charismatic man, but in this particular moment, that didn't help much. "Piss of, gaijin!" - Muttered one of the goons and pushed him back. Hackett looked down, straightened his uniform yet again and yelled: "Do you have any clue who you're frakking with, asshole? I'm Commander Robert Hackett of th Lib..." - His sentence was cut short by the bodyguard's fist colliding with his face. He barely managed to stay on his feet, blood running down his cheek and dripping onto his, once pristine, uniform. "Right...right, let's avoid a diplomatic incident and call this a day." - Said Robert and retreated to the nearest bar, sat on a stool next to a blond lady and ordered a good old bourbon on the rocks. He asked for a paper napkin and wiped away the blood from his face. Hackett then turned towards the blond girl and apologized. -"Excuse me, I hope you're not afraid of blood?" RE: Forsaken - Lea Kaufman - 02-24-2023 23th February 830 A.S - System: Vespucci / Barbados liner The bartenter gave her the rheinbier she ordered a bit earlier. She simply waited after that sipping the drink. After a while, there was some agitation between four people. A thing she did not pay attention. However, after a man yelling that sentence: "Do you have any clue who you're frakking with, asshole? I'm Commander Robert Hackett of th Lib..." She looked toward a man who was bleeding a little bit. She then turned her attention to her bottle. She took a note in her mind that he was not the kind of person to be brought in intel mission. She simply chuckled in silence. After the man sitting next to her and said that he hoped that Lea was not scare of blood, Lea looked at him. ''Nein. I am not scared of blood. Althought, if I were you I wouldn't say so loudly who I am. You never know on who you'll fall. Anyway. You are the contact I am looking for.'' RE: Forsaken - Implosion - 02-26-2023 "Ah, well...splendid! It's been awhile since I worked with someone outside of the Navy, it is a long anticipated change of pace.
I mean, don't get me wrong, The Navy gets the job done, barely. But you guys...and well, gals, you get the job done all the way. You can use whatever tools you want. And in this particular case, I might just be a tool in your hands. The sword in the hand of god." Hackett smirked and took a sip of his bourbon. A few drops of blood had found their way into his glass, but he was too distracted and possibly concussed to even notice. "So, lay it on my girl, what's the job? Who are we taking out? Oh and uh, by the way, I could've taken this guy out back there, in fact, I could've laid both their asses on the ground. But you know how security is around here. I'm not spending another night in the brig, nuh-uh! But! I digress! The gig, let's get back to it." Hackett leaned on the bar and awaited her response. RE: Forsaken - Lea Kaufman - 02-26-2023 23th February 830 A.S - System: Vespucci / Barbados liner She did not like the man but she needed to do the job. She took a sip of her rheinbier and looked at him. She simply said two words. ''The guildmaster.'' She thought it was enough for Hackett to understand why Lea was here. ''The person who gave me the mission to find him told me you probably know where he could be.'' She took some more sips and waited for his reply. She also thought about how much she will earn from this. RE: Forsaken - Implosion - 02-27-2023 "The...what now? The Guildmaster? I was only told I'm looking for an APM research party. But the Guildmaster himself? That's weird. Either way, I've did my homework on the initial assignment. The trail of the research team goes cold somewhere in Coronado. Where exactly, I do not know, but as luck would have, we're scheduled to run a patrol around these parts soon." Hackett ordered another bourbon and continued. "I'm sure I can fabricate some kind of critical equipment failure and go dark for a couple of hours. Should be enough time to investigate the area and see what's what. Whenever you are ready, we'll transfer to the Illustrious and begin the search. Needless to say, the area might be wildly dangerous, so I'll insist you remain onboard the Overlord for the time being. You were sent here for a reason and this leads me to believe you are essential for this mission's success." RE: Forsaken - Lea Kaufman - 02-28-2023 23th February 830 A.S - System: Vespucci / Barbados liner Lea was sipping her drink while Hackett was speaking. Once he was finished speaking, the Rheinlander took a moment before to answer. ''Coronado, eh? Once it was a big mess. I suppose I will accept to stay onboard of the Overlord. I will just hope there will be no problem in that system.'' She paused sipping again the drink. ''I'm ready. Sooner we depart, sooner it will be done and sooner I will be paid.'' After a while, Lea Kaufman ended the rheinbier and waited for Hackett to lead the way to the Illustrious. Now that she was thinking of it, she saw the battleship before to arrive at Barbados. RE: Forsaken - Implosion - 02-28-2023 Hackett tipped the bartender and left the bar, with Lea in tow. They boarded their respective ships and headed for the Illustrious. It was the complete opposite of Barbados. Barebones hangars, made to be functional. Surprisingly, the numbers of alert fighters was awfully low. Only two fighters and two bombers were docked on the Overlord. As they traversed the tight corridors, it became apparent as to why that was the case. The Illustrious was outfitted with military grade cloaking field emitters and a a fully functional jump drive. Albeit, it wasn't top notch. Far from it. The jump drive itself was one of the first even prototypes built. It was highly inefficient and wildly inaccurate. "Some beast, eh?" -Proudly said Hackett. -"This bad boy has thus far been through two major conflicts and numerous engagements. Thus far, we've managed to..." Hackett was interrupted by the intercom. "All personnel, prepare for departure, repeat, we are mobile. Destination: Cortez star system. ETA is three hours." Hackett, with Lea still following him, smiled and said. "Let's go to the bridge. I believe you'll enjoy the view." A couple of minutes later, the duo was already at the bridge. It was strangely deserted, much like the hangar. Only a handful of crewmen were present, far less than what is usually normal for a warship of this size. Despite this, the ship was moving at a steady pace towards the nearby asteroid field. RE: Forsaken - Lea Kaufman - 03-02-2023 23th February 830 A.S - System: Vespucci / Battleship Illustrious When they were inside of the Overlord, the Rheinlander was observing everything and nothing. She noticed the hangar was empty compared to what she once saw on a Bismarck. She followed the captain of the ship, Hackett without saying any words. As soon as they reached the bridge of the Illustrious, Lea did not show any amazed gaze. She needed to be professional on this. As empty as the hangar but in diference having more people around, Lea Kaufman had no words to describe how risky it could be having so few crew. She'd sigh if the woman was alone. ''It's time to work.'' As any mercenary, her thoughts were focused on the future. She imagined a lot of possiblities how she'd get paid for this work. Money? Upgrades for her Odin? She did not know yet. Only at the end of this journey will tell the outcome. |
