Fyn Adler -Rhinelander - Carlos_Benitez - 04-24-2009 Story Feedback Quote:------------------------Application for recruitment into the Rhineland State Police----------- Fyn knew they would never accept him; the Sirius-wide recession was biting deep into Rhineland. He had lost his father's fortune in an investment in a Diamond shipment that had fallen foul of the Hessians, and now found himself living out of the back of his Valkyrie. Spending on public services had been cut by the Chancellor; the police wouldn't have the money to waste on training would-be-pilots. Employment seemed even less likely, as Fyn knew the police would treat him with suspicion; for a time, he had been held as a suspect for his parents' deaths. Quote:----------Diary Entry---------- Fyn Adler -Rhinelander - Carlos_Benitez - 05-18-2009 Quote:----------------------Incoming Transmission--------------------- Things may be beginning to look up. I spoke to a Bowex pilot today who was fairly sure I would be able to find a job either flying their transports or in their escort wing. Either would suit me fine, as I am certain I won't survive much longer running ever more dangerous errands in Hamburg. It took allot of time to muster up enough courage to take the plunge and apply to a Bretonian company, but as my homeland seems to have no jobs for me, it was a necessary move. Bretonia has been less effected by the recession, and giants like Bowex are always looking to expand. The pilot I spoke to assured me that I'd be able to visit home regularly as their shipments often pass through Rhineland. Whilst I appreciate the sentiment, I'm beginning to feel like there is nothing atall for me here. My application is submitted. Now I must wait for a reply. Fyn Adler -Rhinelander - Carlos_Benitez - 05-21-2009 They replied! A recieved a communique reporting that I had been accepted and to report for initiation in Bretonia. I made my way there and was immediately enlisted by my friend Herr Frank flying the Bowex train "Gordon" to escort him on a trade mission to Rhineland. Still flying my valkyre, I guarded my friend's ship through Cambridge and Omega-3, till we reached Omega-7. I scouted ahead to make sure the coast was clear. A gunboat of the Rhineland Militar was at the gate, and sensors indicated it had fired upon Gateway trade ships. I asked the Rhineland captain what had happened and he did not discuss the event. Concerned the captain and crew of the vessel had gone rogue, my friend Herr Frank took his train and ran, but this upset the gunboat captain. He demanded we stop and Herr Frank wisely complied. It turned out it was but a routine scan, and the captain requested a few nanobots to help fix up some damage that had occurred on his ship. Once in Stutgart I contacted the battleship in orbit and inquired about the gunboat's activities. They stated movements of Rhineland Military vessels were classified, confirming in my mind that the gunboat was operating under the authority of the Kanzler. I am now fairly sure that the Gateway ships had been shot down by Korsaren, and the Gunboat had dealt with the attackers in kind. We proceeded to the jumpgate, and I entered the event horizon. The ship felt as if it was going to be torn apart, and my poor Valkyre was flung to the other side of New Berlin. Herr Frank went on ahead, while I attempted to get my bearings, repair the damage to my ship and get back to the tradelanes. I entered the Frankfurt jumpgate to find the same thing happening again; something was destabilising the vortex. After once again emerging in empty space beyond civilisation, I made my way to Munich and met up with Herr Frank at Planet Nuremberg. The engineers confirmed the fusion reactors of my Valkyre's engines were creating exotic particles which were interfering with the jumpgate process. They recommended I scrap the ship, but I had to make sure my new Bowex supervisor got back to Bretonia safely with his cargo. Every jump was an ordeal, but luckely I was not thrown off course again, and we eventually reached Leeds. Herr Frank was kind enough to share half of the profits from the trade run with me; 8 million credits. It's more than I could have dreamed of; a small fortune for one day's work. It's ten times the ammount I had earned in a month working from Hamburg. I'm now certain I'm in the right profession. Bowex is the place for me. |
