Since the beginning, society on planet Malta has been defined by the size and strength of the family. However, families themselves are rarely strong enough to have a decisive voice within the entire world, so they band together in larger clans, which then combine to form an even larger and more powerful cartel. Based on these simple rules, society in Malta is being brought together in powerful cartels such as the Wenceslau Cartel, but also the even larger Benitez Cartel.
The De Marco Clan, originating from the Arca Valley in the southern hemisphere, was one of the smaller and less important ones which, for their own survival as early as 642 AS, had to join forces with the Wenceslau Cartel through family blood ties and used their name and influence to further their own cause on Malta. As time went on, there were ambitious men and women within the De Marco Clan who managed to raise the profile of their own clan with only partial success.
Things began to take a paradoxical turn after a near catastrophic incident for the clan, the Sacking of Rochester, when Fiorella A. De Marco - with the blessing of the other Maltese dons - managed to strike trade deals with the Xenos. Cardamine sales from the Clan's plantations practically increased tenfold in a very short period of time, enriching their coffers in a process that continues to this day.
The sudden influx of funds has allowed the Clan to stand on its own two feet, with the ambition to break out of the shadow of the more powerful Wenceslau Cartel by forging closer ties with other smaller families and clans located in the southern hemisphere of Malta and the formation of the new, still relatively weak Golden Rose Cartel. It is the still-valid family ties between the Golden Rose and Wenceslau Cartels that help maintain superior economic and political relations between both wide families - ll that is required if they are to stand together against the increasingly powerful and assertive Benitez Cartel.
