The Murder of Lord Lowfer-Ferrers [19:00 UTC, 20/08/23] - jammi - 08-19-2023 The murder of Lord Lowfer-Ferrers Bretonia, Taus, Kusari, Sigmas A freighter interception event Overview Lord Lowfer-Ferrers is not a popular man. Once the Undersecretary for Industrial Quotas on Planet Leeds, he now has a comfortable role in the House of Lords leading a commission on Planet Carlisle. He will soon issue an ecologically devastating recommendation on strip mining, and recommend regulations that significantly harm colonist welfare in the interest of industrial development. Lowfer-Ferrers makes no apologies for acting nakedly in BMM's interests, which he considers synonymous with Bretonia's. A lot of people would like to see this man dead. On 20/08/830, Lowfer-Ferrers suffered a "medical emergency" that left him in a critical condition and fighting for his life. Due to the nature and political sensitivity of the Lord's "ailment", specialist treatment is needed at Cryer's secretive Atka facility in Sigma 17. A nearby Bowex armed courier vessel has been conscripted for the purpose of rushing the dying Lord to his destination. Someone doesn't want him to make it. Event Details:
Outcome Late on 19/08/830, a message was sent from a source identifying itself as The Benefactor, providing pirates, terrorists and murderers with intelligence that Lord Lowfer-Ferrers would tomorrow be rushed through the Taus and Kusari in order to reach a destination in the Sigmas. The following day, the Lord suffered a medical emergency and true enough, was evacuated under a veil of secrecy for critical treatment. With mere moments of prior notice, a BAF escort wing was scrambled to see Bowex courier Delta 7-2 through to the Taus. Before long, it would become apparent that something had gone extremely awry. As the detachment entered Leeds, a Kusari mercenary warned of an impending ambush ahead. Soon chaos would erupt, with the Armed Forces escort fighting to punch through Corsair raiders and a Royalist blockade. As the escort wing paid with their lives to create a distraction at the Tau 31 gate, the courier and a lone Bowex fighter escort slipped through. Waiting on the other side was a Molly strike wing, with separatist commandos ready for a boarding action. With no option to retreat to Leeds, the Clydesdale fled towards Barra Anchorage; the Mollys pursued while laying down heavy fire. Before long, the GRN would finish their deadly work in Leeds and give chase, catching the freighter and Mollys near Holman Outpost. The Gallic forces pounced upon the Mollys, intent on seizing the lord alive and for themselves. In an astounding stroke of luck, the freighter was able to slip away towards Tau 29 in the confusion. Upon jumping through, the Meles would discover a squadron of Golden Chrysanthemums laying in wait. With the Clydesdale burning desperately towards Freeport 6, they moved to intercept... until a squadron of Gallic Royalists jumped in behind them. Apparently considering these to be a far more interesting target, they let the freighter go and moved to engage the foreign invaders. Making best speed towards Kyushu, it was here that the Meles encountered a suspiciously well informed pilot of the Kusari Office of Intelligence. Between the Chrysanthemum's harassment and a courageous rearguard action fought by the Naval Officer, the Meles successfully escaped into Kusari core space - despite a dogged pursuit by the Gallic Royalists all the way to the Sigmas. Lord Lowfer-Ferrers made it to Atka for treatment. While he remains in critical condition, Cryer specialists believe that his prognosis is good following an 'unconventional' procedure. The Benefactor will need to try again some other day.
RE: The Murder of Lord Lowfer-Ferrers [19:00 UTC, 20/08/23] - jammi - 08-20-2023 Lord Lowfer-Ferrers will be departing for emergency medical treatment in approximately 30 minutes. RE: The Murder of Lord Lowfer-Ferrers [19:00 UTC, 20/08/23] - Haste - 08-20-2023 I think it's worth considering slowing down slightly once you were technically in the clear. While that does lower your chances of survival a little bit, it feels a little unrewarding to deliberately not dogpile the freighter only to get rewarded by never seeing it ever again (except on the playerlist). There's no real catch-up mechanic in the game for someone laning away at max speed. Otherwise cool, though. Impressive turnout for the event too. I'm curious to see where this'll go now that Lowfer-Ferrers has made it to Atka. We thought you were a lot closer than you actually were, and were hoping you'd catch us at the JH at the very end. In future, I'll slow things down if we seem to have opened a lead to keep things competitive. On the plus side, where Lord Lowfer-Ferrers made it to Atka, he'll receive treatment and will need to head home in the near future. I'll be posting event footage probably tomorrow at some point. RE: The Murder of Lord Lowfer-Ferrers [19:00 UTC, 20/08/23] - RepublicanProvisionalAssembly - 08-20-2023 Alas. Despite their best efforts, the Assembly strike team and Marine Freighter was unable to capture the dear lord. The combination of Gallic and Lawful support made it impossible to maintain the pursuit, and Flight lead Cadigan was shot down and injured covering the Marine Freighter. - a fine event, the mind games and eventual snub fur ball was immensely entertaining. RE: The Murder of Lord Lowfer-Ferrers [19:00 UTC, 20/08/23] - Omi - 08-20-2023 It was fun! Haste basically summed up my thoughts on it. If I'd known we had no hope of actually catching you once we'd let you go at Holman, I would have just turned everyone around and gone back into the Leeds brawl. Kudos especially to the Molly and Bretonian sides for their efforts. RPA in particular seemed to be giving the roleplay angle of it their all, and as usual the quality of BAF| led stuff speaks for itself. RE: The Murder of Lord Lowfer-Ferrers [19:00 UTC, 20/08/23] - Antonio - 08-20-2023 A chaotic and fun event with multiple simultaneous fights in several systems, a hot pursuit, and I dare say 10+ factions involved. I can only hope for a return event from Atka to Bretonia, or something entirely new-but-similar. Only one remark for next time: When you were caught and purposefully spared by GRN in Tau-31, we did so in hopes of you playing along and slowing down so we can catch you down the line (example - counting on the damaged engines angle, with a capture and boarding to follow). It was a bit anti-climactic to see you just speeding through lanes with no way of us catching up, especially with Zoners, GC, KNF and everything else in between slowing us down. Had we known you'd not slow down at all we'd have killed you in Tau-31 immediately and returned to Leeds, but we wanted to try the capture roleplay which would not have worked with Mollys to dispose of first. RE: The Murder of Lord Lowfer-Ferrers [19:00 UTC, 20/08/23] - DragoonArcanum - 08-20-2023 Well, not sure about anyone else, but the Molly crew wasn't expecting the Meles to slow down at all, that's why we were trying to keep it off the lanes and 'disable' it as per; (08-19-2023, 04:59 PM)jammi Wrote: [*]If the Meles.Incognito is drained of nanobots and shield batteries and its hull is dropped to 25% or less, its engines will fail. At this point, you can either 'board' the freighter (capturing Lord Lowfer-Ferrers), or destroy it (killing Lord Lowfer-Ferrers). in order to board it afterwards. Not that we would have been able to take the lord prisoner even if we had disabled it, what with an entire half of Sirius on the trail as well. RE: The Murder of Lord Lowfer-Ferrers [19:00 UTC, 20/08/23] - jammi - 08-21-2023 Event page updated with outcome details and footage. I'll give some thought to how a return trip event should work, and post a date and rules shortly. |
