Research Expedition Report on "Baxter"-Class Anomaly within the Omega-11 System
Report was compiled on 21 / 2 / 829AS
The Arcturus was ready for deployment from Starflier Base. With all her systems ready, and re-reading the scanner tutorial we received, the crew was ready to put this new scanner to the test. We had noticed these same Anomalies spawn within Kepler's storm. However considering the crew and I aren't willing to subject ourselves to spending further time within a dark matter storm, we have decided to record all other instances of these anomalies first. We headed out for the Omega-11 System to investigate and research the Baxter-Type Anomalies that have surfaced there. Halpert Kennedy's report on the system shows that these lights resided in Sector Delta 7. Our travels from the Kepler System were very uneventful. Nothing much to report.
Upon entry into the Omega-11 System, we headed to the sector Halpert noted. Once we got there, we found a derelict asteroid miner. After a brief moment, the anomaly appeared:
It looks phenomenal. Definitely way more pleasing to look at than Halpert's image recording skills. This bright light had a weird gravitational flux to it. This meant that the anomaly "leaked" light. The image above details this quite clearly. It is almost as if the Anomaly itself was trying to reach out and touch our vessel. Not knowing anything about these entities, we backed off and continued our research from a distance. The scanner that came with the Corvo-Class ship was useful in extracting small pieces of information by stripping the light of it's exterior shell. Once this was accomplished, we gathered as much data about the subject as possible. The anomaly itself changed it's form, the gravitational flux we detected at first ceased to exist once we stripped the outer shell. The previous image illustrated the visual before we started scanning it, this next image details what the anomaly changed into after stripping.
After stripping the outer shell of this entity, the inner workings of the Anomaly became apparent. Isolated instances of compressed gravitational pulls cause the anomalies to spawn. The only thing that could cause such a disturbance in space would be either a giant planet, or a supermassive sun. In the Omega-11 system, there is a Red Giant in the centre of the system. With almost no other planetary bodies around, the only gravitational influences are from the Red Giant and the Jump Holes scattered around this sector. All of this culminates into a small area where it seems to be the perfect conditions for these entities to be born. Closing the anomaly requires a certain spike of offensive power. Since these batteries could penetrate the core and close them, we have opted to use a Pulse Cannon. One pulse from this weapon causes instability within the core, effectively cascading into reducing it's lifetime. During this phase, we typically gain about 15 petabytes of information regarding the composition, life, conditions to be born and for the anomaly to exist.
Our first journey out for research purposes has been successful. We had to make return visits to the Cologne System to refresh our battery supply from a research station there. This meant continual attempts at researching these lights in space. In the end we ended up gaining over 300 petabytes of data.
