Research Expedition Report on "Baxter"-Class Anomaly within the Omicron Lost System
Report was compiled on 20 / 3 / 829AS

The Arcturus was refueled and restocked for another venture. The target system for this excursion was an Omicron System I was not familiar with. Reading up on the Map-Data reports Halpert has recorded showed a faraway rift in Omicron Delta that would take me there. A long flight ensued, taking me from Kepler to Rheinland via Kusari and then into the Omicrons. Did not take long until the Freeport within Delta was within our sights. A quick restock of basic necessities and we were off.

Once we arrived at the rift, it was like any other. An absolute uncertainty like all other rifts became apparent with the crew. As such, we initiated jumping procedures and took it right into Omicron Lost. The system looks barren, only a single planet and a station of which is owned by something I do not yet understand. Halpert's report pinpointed the sector where these lights spawned in, so the crew directed the Arcturus there.

The first of these Baxter-Type Anomalies made themselves known. Our scanners were quick to identify it as soon as it was brought to life, so we started the process to analyse everything. One similarity to note between here and the Omega-11 systems, they both have a giant sun in the centre. I am not sure if this is required to generate these lights. I stated in my previous report that gravitational fluxes with the sun, rifts and planetary bodies could create an area with perfect conditions. It seems this is also the case here too. Though, one minor difference is the asteroid field surrounding the anomaly, rather than being close to a planet and a wrecked Serenity-Class ship.

Exactly like last time, once the exterior spherical casing was made null, the pulse cannon's single shot gave us more information about this location. What we were able to determine was that my assumption was true. Gravitational compoundment in certain areas around very large suns can in fact force these lights to appear. It seems dark matter is involved, what it's role is within the process is unknown. Maybe further research may reveal this. The requirement for solid matter also an interesting point, fragmentary asteroids or a single planet is enough to create the field where these lights spawn. It might be caused by the large gravitational field the planet naturally has, or the minute fields generated by each asteroid in a given field. Once I investigate the other locations, more of this will be understood. For now, we only got a small sample from this system.

Our time in the system was short lived, as readings of alien biology was setting off our scanners. Considering the importance of this raw data and the fact we were idling in a system on the edge of Sirius, we opted to quickly make our way out the only exit of the system. Not very often to I feel anxious, this time it was getting pretty bad. Do not wish to encounter these Nomads, as their intentions regarding this raw data could be catastrophic for my crew and I.

Leon has advised us that the Pulse Cannon we use is crossing the line with the Starfliers policy against the use of weapons. However, my case against that for this job is due to the weapon only dealing large amounts of pulse energy, it can be classified as non-lethal and deemed fit to use. It just so happens that this particular cannon is extremely helpful in gathering data on these anomalies. Leon has since agreed that only the Corvo-Class ships we own shall share the same loadout.
