Guildmistress.

I met your new addition to the Fleet. The latest and the greatest in Artificial Intelligence - Ares. What it told me made me consider a few things. First among those would be to ask bluntly a simple question.

Just what happened with your father? 'Cause what I'm getting right now is that there's no proof of death. There's not much proof of anything, in fact. Instead I hear he might've sabotaged an APM asset. The Epona or something.

You don't happen to know anything, right?

I'm not going to lie, Ares creeps the hell out of me. That thing has some issues, but so far, we haven't had the chance to send techs to check it out. While it is operating within its parameters, Ares' behaviour is... erratic at best.

Now, about my father. You can bet your shiny ass he didn't sabotage the Epona. It was actually one of his pet projects. He would never destroy it, no matter the circumstances, which were shady, at best. Here's what I've gathered so far.
The Illustrious and the Epona were dispatched on a top secret mission authorized by the Guildmaster himself. At that time the Illustrious was under the command of Strix, also an AI.
But much less chaotic. Both vessel jumped through hyperspace and were gone for a couple of days. The Illustrious returned, the Epona didn't. Preliminary scans indicated damage on the Illustrious' hull. After further investigation, we've discovered the source - Core battleship ordnance. I'm assuming something happened and both warships shot at each other. The sole "survivor" of that mission was Ares. My father's body was returned, however it disappeared shortly after. We also have one ship unaccounted for. Fighter. Edge Worlds tech. We mainly use those for black ops and the likes. Anyhow, something or someone made it out with the meatsuit.

Considering the amount of cybernetic augmentations and prosthetics, coupled with the reports from the techs that maintained it, that body could be remotely operated. My father was so fucked up, it needed an AI to keep his own body running. Apparently, his brain was unable to handle the stress from so much chrome. Ares insisted we send a few teams to look for him, but I know no man in the Core is skilled enough or smart enough to track down the former Guildmaster. Assuming, of course, he's alive. If Daniels doesn't want to be found, it would be damn near impossible to locate him.

I'd love to know what the shit is going on, but this goes deeper than it seems. Something is seriously off with this whole ordeal. And on top of that, I get promoted overnight to a Guildmistress. Shit ain't normal, I can tell you that much. If you have any insights you want to share with me, I'll be more than happy to hear you out.

Gabrielle.

Ares is a ticking time bomb by the looks of it. I get it - Gammu technology is definitely interesting. I saw those new guns you send your new soldiers to stroll around with. Wouldn't mind a pair of those myself. Alas...rudimentary limiters pretty much don't do squat. It already points out that you are incapable. That you're not efficient enough. Put itself in a good light of sorts. Really screwed up conversation all in all.

I told Ares to try and ping Jack's hardware. Apparently he got both blocked and caught some nasty malware. Something on the other end bit that demented tin can. I'm inclined to believe that's Strix and hopefully Jack himself.

You don't happen to have access to anything that might have belonged or is related to Strix, do you?

Strix didn't have any personal belongings. It was a machine. It still is.
The only thing that does remain and is related to it is the Perditrix. Originally, all of Strix' processing power was located on that ship. The vessel itself is experimental. The knowledge we gained from it, we later applied with the Illustrious.

However, up until yesterday, I was confident Strix was destroyed. Evidently, it has survived and it's able to put up a fight against Ares.
And Ares...oh Ares. That's another problem that I'll need to solve at some point in the not-so-distant future. Unfortunately, that AI is very good at one thing - destruction.
It's overzealous and the levels of violence it exhibits are beyond anything I've seen. But there's one major problem. No one has access to its AI Core, as it is located onboard the Overlord.
Problematic, to say the least. But I digress, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

If you really want to go after Strix and the former Guildmaster, there are a few options.
We either get one hell of a hacker to break through Strix' firewalls or... we use more conventional means.
Good ol' detective work. People do not vanish into thin air, that is against the laws of physics. My father had few contacts he could trust. If I send an army of techs to the Perditrix, they are bound to pull some interesting stuff. That vessel was used, amongst other things, as a personal luxury yacht and the former Guildmaster had more than a few business meetings with shady individuals on it. If I was a fugitive, I'd go to shady individuals first.

Whatever you decide to do, you'll be supplied with adequate compensation and resources to cover your operational costs.

Gabrielle.

Let's try the detective route for now. I don't know any outstanding hackers to be able to put a figurative dent on Strix's firewall and my skills on the matter are sloppy at best. Search Jack's personal yacht or whatever for clues. I'll take this time call a few people. See if anyone might've caught something.

The way I see it you want to keep this on the down low, so I'll keep it so unless stated otherwise.

And since we're talking compensation and cost coverage? You can mostly forget about it. I'll work on my own pocket for as long I can. Your father was a decent enough person whether you agree or not. I wouldn't mind extended access to The Core's range of ship equipment, though. Homocidal Gammu AI? Plots getting questionably deep? I don't want to go up against something I'm ill equipped for.

Can't see I saw this coming. A top tier merc working pro-bono. I am surprised, to say the least. However, I've been taught to always pay my dues in advance, when possible.

And speaking of advanced Gammu AI, we've got some pretty cool new toys to play with. I'm talking seriously cutting edge AI tech. Just go to Gammu. I'll send word in advance, they will be expecting you. You won't be disappointed, that much I know.

As for clues on current whereabouts, I'll get people on it ASAP. Can't say how much it will take, by my estimates, should be a day or two, at the very least.

Been a while, Guildmistress.

How have you been out the in the Omicrons? I sure hope The Order hasn't been too much of a bother, although I'm thinking that isn't much of an issue since they've been largely busy with defending Kadesh.

Small talk and re-introductions aside: I've got a question for you. What do you know about ALG's business in The Omicrons? I'm having the distinct feeling some of their employees aren't as upstanding as they claim they are. That was made more apparent after I found one working on occasion with The Order. Nothing grand, I guess. Definitely not something to ignore either.

Oooh shit. You ain't dead. Guess the rumors weren't true after all. Either way, it's good to hear from you again, been awhile since our last little heart to heart.
And indeed, you are right. We haven't seen anything from the Order that would pose a significant threat to us in a long while. As for the ALG, you are once again correct.
Those ass kissing fuckers have their noses so far up the Order's ass, they can practically tickle their tonsils with their nose hairs. We had more than a dozen accidents where the ALG openly assisted Order ships and even engaged us on their own. There was an ALG battlecruiser flying about at one point. Dunno what happened to it. I hope they got fucked by the rest of the denizens.
As to what they want, my highly educated guess is they want what everybody else wants from the Omicrons. Alien tech and rare resources.
What's with the sudden boner of yours for the ALG, though? Somebody paid you to dig dirt on them or something?

You know me so well!

I'm supposed to make ALG's life harder. How hard and through what means is left to my discretion, so I guess the answer is yes. I'm being paid to run some of these corporate douchebags into the ground unless they change their mind about whose ass they kiss or I bleed them dry of credits.

Thought you might know a little bit extra, and you obviously do by the sound of it. Do you have anything on that ALG Battlecruiser though and their engagements with you? Chances are I can swing the context just right to make them rethink their actions.

Weeeeell... I can dig some dirt on 'em.
Might take a while to go through several zetabytes of archives, but the good news is, I've already got something. It ain't exactly fresh, but hell, it goes to show for how long has this shit been going on.
