It has taken us some time but it has finally been found. By monitoring the more unusual traffic in the Omicron Delta system, we have found the jump hole to the elusive 'Omicron Pi'.

Recent conflict in New Moscow's sector denied the opportunity to bring heavier equipment. With the anticipation and urgency of our cause, I decided to take an initial delve in my Insurgent.

What greeted me was a system of stark beauty. The contrast of the intense White Giant at, presumably the centre, to the darkness of space beyond. There were no stars, no nebula, no stellar landmarks by which I could determine a relative location. Omicron Pi appears to be a truly isolated system.

Lacking in the proper equipment or shielding for the delve to last long, I headed for the nearest plantary body. Comrades, you will not have seen such a beautiful sphere of purples, blues and whites. I have uploaded a recording. It makes for a poor fascimile, but it shall have to suffice.

Detecting a break in the storms of the planetary body, I was surprised to find that there appeared to be an entry point through the outer storms into a calmer atmosphere. Forgive my rashness, comrades, but I dove in for a look.

Bear witness to what was found.
Through the radiation distortion. Do you see it? Tovaryshi, we must prepare a survey operation as soon as possible. It was impossible for me to gather any detailed data on the object. Needless to say, it was particularly large. Notice the protrusions from it's centre? The regularity of the curvature? It is clearly an manufactured object of some kind, and not one of human origin.

It is imperative under the Commune's operational directive that we ascertain the origin, nature and purpose of this object to the fullest extent. We must determine whether it should be considered a threat to humanity, and the Coalition. We must learn all that we can for the betterment of the People.

Whilst I was preparing to leave and return home, an intriguing craft approached. Transmitting the ident 'Unit-9467F', it claimed to be intercepting me and proceeded to threaten me with termination lest I assist it in some manner. On scanning the vessel and parsing the manner in which it communicated, it became clear the vessel was some kind of artifical unit. It reminds me of the occassional artificial-intelligence unit detected in other Omicron sectors. What was strikingly different was how... territorial it behaved, especially in its demand to not enter a designated area of the system.

Most intriguing. There clearly is something important to this unit entity there, something it does not wish for us to learn about. Tovaryshi, when the council next convenes I propose we discuss the addition of artifical intelligence units to our mandate. Behind what we may have written off as a benign collection of constructs may lay something malignant. I hope that it is not, yet we best keep our vigilance.

The Starannist' made it's maiden voyage this cycle, and it's crew have passed their first tests with flying colours.

Since the previous report was uploaded it has become evident that the commune is lacking in the specialist equipment necessary for a detailed survey of the 'Knossos object'. Steps are being taken to remedy this shortfall. Most likely, we shall need to reach out to the other Coalition organisations for aid. To reach out to them makes me nervous, more so than any external party. What will they think of us? The isolation has been long in it's making. Will they accept us? In their minds, will we still be... Regardless, it must be done. We shall have to brave our re-integration with courage, comrades.

In the meantime, let us make the most of what we have available. A few Voyager freight-class vessels have been retrofitted with what equipment we have available; surface scanners and mining arrays. This has enabled the Starannist', the first of these vessels, to collect fragments and objects in close orbit of the 'Knossos object'. On it's first mission, it has collected one thousand two hundred of these relic objects for evaluation and analysis. Laboratories three and four; this is your task. Please carry it out swiftly and report to me as soon as is reasonable to do so with your progress. Make requisition requests to the Starannist' and other survey teams if more samples are required.

Survey teams. The situation in the deep Omicrons is delicate. Keep yourselves as discrete as possible. We cannot afford to draw the attention of the myriad militarised organisations that lay claim to that space. In addition to the previous upload, I have since received intelligence that the situation in Pi itself is fragile. There are entities that reside in the galatic northern portions of the system, and we have been requested by one such artificial entity to keep outside of that zone. Respect their request. Respect the area - do not exhaust the site and stay cool headed. Vigilance, as always comrades, but the sword will not help us gather the answers we seek. Unity with others shall.

Sub-commune two. Your task is to develop and design a new survey craft that has the technical capabilities we need to properly ascertain the nature of the 'Knossos object'. It will also need to be able to be discrete, preferably with stealth capabilities. I believe the core-world phrase is 'blue-sky thinking'. Ha... let us call it orange-sky thinking. Provide me with two designs; one as if there were no constraints on resource. The other, as if we were limited by our comrade's production capabilities. Take your time. We need to get this right.
