Native resolution. - Richi - 03-16-2024

Hello.

I remember the time when CRT monitors were on their way out and were replaced by the first LCDs. HD and FHD. Configuration issues or aspect ratio differences. It's taken a while for FHD to become the standard, even in gaming settings.
Now I own a UHD monitor and to my surprise, Freelancer does not run correctly on the UHD display. I already searched for an answer and something with fonts.ini file problems.
And, here I really do not understand and I am surprised. Discovery mod/mods is so sophisticated, you are constantly developing it and thinking of a lot of details. You are still putting a lot of effort into it. Incredible work and time.
So I don't think anyone is going to say, "Screw it, we're not going to work on a resolution other than FHD."
So I guess there must be another problem here.

If I haven't missed some important advice or information, then the question is: why can't you play correctly in native QHD or UHD resolution?

Thank you.

Which resolution you used?
Should i consider the "UHD" as 3840 x 2160?
If so try modify the following things

Here is what working for me.

Now, go to:
My Documents\My Games\Freelancer\
and edit PerfOptions.ini.

Look for these lines:
[Display]
size= xxxx, xxx
color_bpp= 32
depth_bpp= 24

Change the numbers after "size" to set your resolution. (1920, 1080) <- be aware of the space before 1080

Next, go to gameDir/DATA and edit cameras.ini

You'll want to change the first FOVX value, or the game won't be playable. I recommend 63.36 for 16:10 resolutions and 68.88 for 16:9 resolutions. 1920x1080 is 16:9.

Unfortunately if you have a "Ultra Wide Monitor" then this will not work actually

Thanks for the reply.
I don't know if it's clear enough from my question, resolution is not the main issue.
Freelancer does not run correctly. HUD display is without speed and distance information, said to be a problem with the font, fonts.ini file.
And yes UHD as 3840x2160

Ah, no, you was not clear enough ...

If not an issue, can you record a video about the issue? because "Speed and Distance Information" is a kinda vague way to describe the issue, if possible i would like to see what you try to explain me ...

But i belive @Aingar, @Alex. can help you even more, try reach them in the Discovery FL Forums on Discord, they both are the main force behind Discovery, and probably can help you even more than what i could

I will try to Ping them anyway, but is better if you approach them in such channels, meanwhile i will try to review what is you triying to tell me, fortunately i have an 4K monitor nearby

If the only issue is the lack of thruster/speed indicator, the fix is to reduce the fixed_height parameter of specific entries the fonts.ini, I believe the 'HudSmall' is the one, but you'll need to experiment or find someone who is more certain of it.

The issue is that the game attempts to render text that is too large on your screen, causing it to just not be rendered at all.

And Tenshi, dropping a ping on forums, on the main discord AND in my DMs is an overkill to say the least.
