Cook - Bear - 05-10-2009

There once was an old earth saying 'One mans junk is the next man's treasure' and this couldn't be more true for the man they called Cook. It was many years ago that a poor couple found each other on the Junker's base in New York. These two were social outcasts, who, for variouse reasons had come to live on Rochester. The Junker's had taken them under their protection out of pity and had given them both the job of sorting the scrap from the shipments into Rochester. They did this for many years before down in the dirty docks of the base they found a desire for each other. It was one of those days when there had been an increase in the amount of scrap comeing. Apparently the scrap merchants had found an easier way gathering it and that could only mean one thing. More work. It was late in the day that the accident happened one of the scrap bins that housed the unwanted or unusable metal tipped and crushed four people.
The fifth one who's name was Catherine Prime was severly injured in the accident and a man called Haden Cook was detailed to look after her. He spent days tending to the wounds on Catherine. Once she came out of the indused coma the first thing she saw was Haden.

From then on the two were inseperable, and four months after the accident Catherine was able to able to walk again for the first time. Haden stuck with her all through her rehabilitation and trialing times. Two years after the rehab stopped Catherine fell pregnant to Haden and they decided to get married on Rochester. They decided that they little money they did have would go toward their baby in the hope that his future would be brighter than theirs. It was the day of the delivery and right from the start the doctors could see that it would be improbable at best that Catherine would surive. As the baby was being delivered Catherine died silently on the bed never being able to see her baby. Haden was shattered, the only love in his life was gone and now, as a single father he had to provide to his son. He had no idea what to name the child, so he asked around the local srapeheaps and eventually came up with the name Luke. And so it was that the baby was known as Luke but most just called him Cook.

Cook never had the experiences that a normal child had, he never knew his mother and his father was never home. He had to make his own fun and so he would make toys for himself from the scrap lying around station. As he grew he became more and more skilled in the art of makeing things, so much so that he built new oxygen pumps for the ageing station and was payed quite well for it. But things weren't so merry for long, A large thud was heard throught the station one day and Cook went to investigate. What he found would stay with him for the rest of his life. As he clambered through the service hatches of the station he found that a large scrap cube that was ready to be melted down had come off it's convierbelt and landed on a group of workers. As the shifted the block he found the crushed remains of his father only recogniseable by the ring in wich he wore on one of the surviving fingers.

From that day foward Cook vowed to leave the station that had claimed the lives of both his parents and travel the stars as a trader. But first he would need a ship. He went to the sirius ship dealer automated computer system and looked at the ships on the markets. He found that he didn't like the frieghters that were available. That night as he lay in his bed, a thought crossed his mind "Why don't I make my own" he thought to himself. The next day he asked around the station about ship parts and prices and found that makeing a well built ship with reasonable cargo space was quite in-expensive because the parts were already around him. So he drew up some plans detailing the entire ship and he set about building it. The work was long and hard but worth it in the end. When the project was done he purchased some transport turrets and fitted them to the ship. He was now able to leave the station and go to the far reaches of the sirius sector.
