Bretonia On The Offensive?

NEW LONDON - WIth the frontier to Dublin for the most part secured ahead of the summer of 834, the Ministry of Defence has announced major reforms to be the focus of this year for both it and the Armed Forces' elements deployed in the field.

OLD FACES RETURN - In a recently held defence meeting, the until-now largely silent MoD has paved the way for a rekindling of public relations in a concentrated effort by all branches of government to put Bretonia back as a vital piece of the current political landscape of the sector. Perhaps the most symbolic of these announced changes has been the recalling of many former officers from before the Dublin crisis -- with the former Chief of the Defence Staff, Harold Sommerville, recently appointed to a key position within the Armed Forces -- in an attempt to push through changes on a larger scale but also in a move to reassure the other Great Houses that the situation is under the control of the Crown's forces.

Although there is skepticism about the true nature of these changes, with some analysists calling them "too little, too late", Defence Ministry spokesman Bailey Austin remains fervent in the belief that now is the opportune time for such a reformist push to go through, citing the Molly rebellion's failures to break the New London blockade and information from BIS operations on recent Corsair successes in stopping Molly convoys well before they reach BAF lines.

Further, the Admiralty Board has offered assurances that the return of these cadres showcases the unity of Bretonian people in times of need, with the Armed Forces being portrayed as the only line of defence between the barbaric Mollys and Corsairs and planet New London, the heart of the Kingdom. The BBC anticipates that, with the appointment of Mr. Sommerville as a leading figure within the military, significant resources will be diverted towards cooperation with the other Houses while backtracking on the actions of previous years, amongst which a decrease in contracts offered to the Bounty Hunters Guild.

BIG GUNS STAND VIGIL - There are, however, not only words to follow from the recent defence meeting; only a few hours after it concluded, the battleship HMS Essex and her escorts, alongside the dreadnought HMS Somerset, have begun movement towards the Cambridge system, believed to be recalled to Portsmouth for refitting. Thames Outpost, in the capital system, has also been requisitioned as a forward posting base by the military, though further details were not released on either how many vessels will be staged at or operate out of Thames station nor what the purpose of the fleet relocations will be down the line.

Planet New London orbit has, however, also seen the arrival of several replacement warships to reinforce the Dublin blockade, with the mainstay represented by a flotilla of Crecy-class cruisers spearheaded by the destroyer HMS Naseby, having been recalled from the Taus where its crew served for several years in upholding the various treaties aimed at culling Gallic influence in the region. The BBC expects that, with the deployment of such veteran crews, forays within Dublin are not out of the question as the summer looks closer and with it reforms are pushed through to better allow the military to respond to and adapt to Molly attacks.

ATTENTION TURNS OUTWARD - The Foreign Office representatives present at the defence meeting, though tight-lipped about any large-scale efforts of their department in the next months, have briefly spoken on the "special attention" that an inter-Colonies summit is deserved of and the effects it may have on the public outlook of Bretonia's handling of the Dublin Crisis. Amongst the Colonies, the Empire of Kusari has diverted significant economic aid to Bretonia thus far, at large owing to the need by the Keiretsu -- Kusari Megacorporations -- of fresh gold for the production of various highly-advanced pieces of equipment in the Honshu and New Tokyo system. Military aid has also been a topic of talk in Kusari, but it remains to be seen whether such a move will materialize or not.

In the meantime, the Foreign Office has a window of opportunity to work with both Rheinland and Liberty in ensuring support against the Mollys, be it economic in nature, such as Kusari's contribution thus far, or military. The BBC will continue to cover these developments over the course of the following weeks.
