project name: Custodian
start date: 30.05.834

status: in progress
type: restoration and further production

location: Valravn Citadel, Inverness system
lead: Initiate Freud, Roland

Summary

I. Introduction

During the collection and restoration of Task Force Prometheus's military resources, it was discovered that some of their assets were in need of restoration or updating. Among them are Liberty's signature fighters and bombers: from F-9 "Patriot" to BDR B-17 "Upholder". The most important of these, however, remains the BDR F-8 "Defender", a balanced and versatile fighter capable of holding its own in any skirmish. This fighter was made a priority among others.

The project was entrusted to the Initiate Freud, who proved himself to be a talented mechanic and technician. If successful, Task Force Prometheus will have superior fighters at their disposal, leveling the battlefield against their opponents.

II. Evaluation

Although Task Force Prometheus already has combat-capable fighters of this type at its disposal, their equipment has become outdated over the years. Not having data on the modern design of these ships will significantly complicate their operation and repair.

Thus, in addition to studying existing schematics and organizing work, the implementation of this project requires obtaining the necessary data. Due to the fact that Task Force Prometheus is an opponent of Liberty, in order to acquire this data, they will have to take certain risks. This may include, but is not limited to, the following methods: espionage, resource capture, infiltration and analysis of combat situations.

III. Process

- project start
- requesting permission to develop technology acquisition plans
- requesting Technocracy's assistance
- clavus clavo pellitur event

Project Update I

Recording begins with bright sparks from a blowtorch. Freud, standing in the hangar next to the "Defender" he is repairing, doesn't bother to turn his head toward the camera or pause in his work.

"So far so good."

Sparks continue to flicker as the man bends the metal to his will. His movements were not even the movements of a specialist accustomed to work, but rather of one for whom such things are as natural as eating or breathing. He did not hesitate for a second, as if obeying an invisible impulse leading him to the only possible result.

"Grand Tectarch Amy West allowed me to develop a plan to acquire the necessary technologies to transfer this matter into the hands of our ordinary technicians. I already have a certain strategy in mind. An old-fashioned one, but it can’t be denied its effectiveness. Suffice it to say, we will simply take what we need from our enemies. Indelicate? Maybe. But with how quickly events are unfolding in Inverness and Ontario, we cannot afford long preparations, infiltrations and elegant plans."

The man, without ceasing to work, looks somewhere to the side, as if lost in thought. His hands continue to move without his supervision.

"I still have not received a response from the Technocracy in response to my request for data they have on the Liberty ships. Quite understandable. I am probably quite insignificant in their eyes and, besides, I am not their direct subordinate. However, I have no doubt that they will eventually deign to help me. Considering how closely our goals coincide, it would simply be illogical to refuse me."

Having finished fiddling with one part of the ship, the man moves on to another, still without directly looking at what he is working with. He could repair this fighter with his eyes closed... Literally.

"Oh, and... This one will soon fly. I will test this prototype personally, of course. And perhaps I’ll keep it for myself if the command allows it. They need to somehow encourage my work, don’t they?"

Project Update II

Recording shows Freud in the cockpit of a "Defender" fighter. Quite a standard "Defender" at first glance, but upon closer inspection one can see traces of modifications.

"Huge progress."

"As soon as I received valuable data from the Technocracy regarding Liberty fighters' maintenance, we set off on an operation to intercept Liberty Navy's transport. And the operation was successful. I won’t go into the details of the battle here; Logs and general information can be viewed in my report."

"One thing that I would like to highlight, however, is the performance of my “Defender”. Not only was this fighter able to compete on equal terms against similar models in Liberty's arsenal, but it also showed better results. It would be tempting to attribute this all to my skill as a pilot, but I won't fall for that. Liberty's military pilots had more experience and specialized training; I owe this success to the technical superiority of my ship."

"After the operation, I studied the data provided by the Technocracy and can conclude that it represents suitable material for training personnel in the relevant skills. This will seriously speed up the process of placing Liberty fighters in our service."

"Finally, the fighter components we captured on that transport will free us for some time from the need to produce them ourselves. And by the time they run out, production will already be established."

"All in all, the project can be considered successfully completed. All that remains is routine and formalities."
