An idea about the shields - Grimly - 05-11-2009 This is just an idea I would like to see in disco mod. Okay we have the ships with different agility, resistance, power array, but what if we add different shield capacity and regen to it ? I saw it implemented in The Void mod with nomad shields having fast regen shields while order/monkeys have high capacity shields, even with boosts you could add (but I don't think the boosts are necessary). The idea I have in mind would be the change of some shields. graviton : high capacity, small regen positron : high regen, small capacity molecular : medium in all. Something like that. The capital ships should also lose the variety of shields giving them a non specific shield. It could be based on the razor or the paralyser, making them deshielding completely the weakest shield type but not the biggest shield. For all the bomber fights with the SNACs, it would change some fights before it comes to a SNAC shot. You can get a shield which fit the ship characteristics (corsair ships will have graviton, outcasts will have positron, hunters will have molecular if we follow the stats I gave) Of course it's not to be implemented right now since it ask a long long balance work:) An idea about the shields - tansytansey - 05-12-2009 I like having a variety of shields that offer different resistances, it means every faction has to choose a shield most suitable to fight their enemies with. Ironically, for the Liberty Rogues that's a Graviton shield anyway. If you change shields the way you suggested, people will figure out which shield is the better of all three. Then EVERYONE will use that one shield and no one will use any of the others. So rather than creating variety, you will be removing it, since no one uses inferior technology if they don't have to. As an example: Ablative Armor: Provides increased protection against explosives and plasma/particle weaponry. Reflective Armor: Provides increased protection against laser/photon/pulse/tachyon weaponry. The 20 000 capacity has 380 regen, the 25 000 has 320, and the 29 000 one is around 300 I believe. I think it's a good idea. However, there is an option to add more of shields of same type and class but with different stats. An idea about the shields - Inconcessus - 05-18-2009 Shields having different stats based based on their type molecular, gravitron, postiron could force players into different playtyles of what they are used to, like with your positron shiled that fails more quckly than other shields will force evasive style on it's user. Instead why not introduce different subtypes ? (this idea is from the Evolutions mod so credits go to them) - imp. capacity : capacity = 250% , regen = 50% , rebuild time = 200% - standard : capacity = 100% , regen = 100% , rebuild time = 100% - imp. regen : capacity = 50% , regen = 250% , rebuild time = 50% the numbers could be changed of course. This way you can have variety without pigeonholing yourself with the type of the shield. |
