Allying in a fight - Andrew_Bonesovich - 05-12-2009 Just a few thoughts about one thing I experienced yesterday. Situation: 2xPraetorian, 1 Gladiator (me) attacking BH BS RHA standing by, and suddenly jumping into the fight, shooting us (Corsairs). I understand they hate each other -very- much, but allying with a BH? Even ID restricts allying with lawfuls. When I asked what the hell they are doing, they just replied: "We are not allying with him", but shot Corsairs, not the BS or both sides at the same time, until corsairs were down (THEN they turned on the BS, at least) I was slightly confused of this behaviour. Then I ask, what IS allying and what is it NOT? When someone jumps into a fight and starts shooting one side, its helping the other side, regardless of what they say. I dont want this turn into a flame, but 3-way fights occur sometimes, and I want to be sure about what I can do next time I happen to be in one. In my opinion, best in this case would be RHA staying out until one side dies, and finishing whats left. "Helping" the Bounty Hunter, in this case, would be no worse than "helping" the Corsairs - both are enemies of the Hessians. Frankly, this sounds to me like a case of someone who's mad that he got shot. Allying in a fight - Dab - 05-12-2009 Depending on circumstances, it might be better to wait until one side is dead, or to attack the stronger side while the weaker one is alive. For example, say there are 3 BAF fighting 7 Corsairs, and 5 RHA show up.. They could wait until the BAF die, and there would probably be 5-6 Corsairs left.. Or they can jump in immediately and shoot Corsairs first. Chances are 1-2 BAF would die before 'sairs are taken out, so that leaves RHA with 1-2 enemies left total, rather than 5-6. Three-way fights are more chaotic and choosing the right target gets more difficult. Plus, enemies in a fight are reluctant to change to a new target, so that'd give the newcomers an edge; They get to shoot without getting shot at. In this case, my choice would be to wait until the Corsairs had almost killed the battleship, then attack the Corsairs. Once they are down, it'd be a small matter to knock off the last of the battleship's hull. This way, the battleship would still be available to shoot at the Corsairs, possibly killing off one or more, and at the very least, hurting them and taking some of their bots. Either way, it helps the RHA and hurts the Corsairs. Since the BS is already almost dead, its an easier target than the Corsairs. Its always best to attack the strongest opponent, which in this case, was the Corsairs. It helps to use your opponent's opponent against them, even if they are also you're opponent. As long as they aren't shooting you, but your opponent, they are useful. This isn't a case of alliance. People use that term too lightly. The RHA did not choose any side other than their own. If BHG and RHA were grouped together, that'd be alliance. Attacking a common enemy first is simply smart. Allying in a fight - Andrew_Bonesovich - 05-12-2009 I didnt want them to help us nor the BH. As I said, best would be staying out until one side dies. I do that most of the times. (If not ordered by higher ranking officer in BAF :P) And no, I dont mind getting shot, I actually mind getting ganked, everyone doesnt like to get swarmed by BS and bunch of bombers/fighters. I dont want to whine about getting ganked however (Ive done that on skype yesterday already :$), I wanted to ask about allying and this stuff, so keep on topic. EDIT: @Dab Thanks for constructive post Its hard to say which side was bigger threat. With force RHA had, they could kill the BS together, and then take out corsairs with no losses. There was 2 RHA near the fight, and a few more (3-4 I didnt count it) arrived later. I agree with the rest though Allying in a fight - Wolfspirit - 05-12-2009 It's okay because hessians are at war with corsairs, but a bounty hunter mean harm only then if someone put bonty to the hessians head (its RP and server rule too). If no, the BH harmless, so their choise was right. If no, the BH harmless, so their choise was right. They were already in a fight. The BS could engage anyone in self defense regardless of bounties. Engaging the BS was a bit silly for the corsairs, those two obviously didnt know the BS <strike>cant</strike> shouldnt engage them. Unfortunately I arrived too late to tell them. Allying in a fight - Rudo - 05-12-2009 I occasionasionally run into Kusari/Corsairs/Gaians and BAF fighting on my Molly. I sometimes "side" with the BAF in the sense that I'll shoot the more hated of the two enemies. But I will be much more liberal with mines and torpedoes -- as a Molly, if a BAF jock wanders into a Nuke it's collateral damage I can live with. Allying in a fight - Dieter.Lenz - 05-13-2009 Corsairs are our hated rivals in the Omegas. Bounty Hunters, namely the Guild Core, are busy fighting Wilde and defending their installations in the Omegas. It was obvious who we would attack first - the Corsairs. The battleship may have been infamous, but we don't need to kill everything we encounter. Once our bomber was blown up, we disengaged from the damaged battleship and docked elsewhere. Allying in a fight - Spear - 05-13-2009 In a 3 way fight it is wise to target the strongest enemy and deal with your lesser enemy later. I would not call that allying with an enemy, simply a tactic to ensure your survival at the end of the battle. Allying in a fight - Grimly - 05-13-2009 Note : Having 4 RHA fighters/bombers + 1 BH BS spamming flaks on his ass is far to be cool <_< |
