What is up with the rules? - The old ways are dying out - 09-01-2024

This game should be on sight meaning when I see you I will blast if need be whatever it is (some jousting, roughhousing and such), same as single player you have money you get a ship not this energy depleted in five seconds barely surviving a fight with Mollys. What. Incompatible parts why can I mount them then .... I understand role playing aspect and all that but you are really fucking up. And go to is fucked since the rendering can't follow the cruise speed you hit every goddamn space rock there is and it doesn't stop when you are heading straight to a planet .... Can't trade nothing
You are making it way to convoluted with this ... I can't be reading manuals ... just ease up and maybe more will come ...

You kept this game alive no doubt but how about making it thrive ...............

The rules take 5 minutes to read at most and for the most part, are honestly not that complex. If you ever need clarification on things most people in-game are happy to help or here on the forums or Discord.

You can't shoot on sight specifically to facilitate roleplay. You can't have any basic interaction down to even acknowledging they're there if they immediately shoot you.

Tech compatibility exists to ensure people roleplaying aren't using absurdly out-of-place things.

The go to on larger ships can fail to compensate for planets due to how it works but this isn't an issue that stops you from trading on lane, or if you just, don't step away for extended periods of time while flying. Hitting rocks shouldn't be a big issue unless you're going through extremely dense fields where large ships aren't really expected to operate well anyway.

The rules are pretty lax as is, laxening them to the extent you propose would just completely kill any casual roleplay, which is one of the main aspects most of us are here and most people join.

Not everyone wants to be dealing with getting shot on sight for no reason. This mod's community already has enough issues with that in quite a number of cases.

same as single player you have money you get a ship not this energy depleted in five seconds barely surviving a fight with Mollys.
What.

eh? i don't understand this one. If you mean the energy reserves depleting quickly, you can do /shields to disable your shield regeneration but you get more powercore.

Incompatible parts why can I mount them then

some people go through roleplay efforts to have the incompatability removed.

.... I understand role playing aspect and all that but you are really fucking up.

honestly? I don't think so. for this mod to survive longer than Crossfire freelancer did is something else, despite all the troubles it's had over the years. And being able to narrate your own "Story" is quite a fond thing for me, personally. there isn't enough of that for space sim mods because all everyone wants in space sims these days is bloodlust.

And go to is fucked since the rendering can't follow the cruise speed you hit every goddamn space rock there is and it doesn't stop when you are heading straight to a planet .... Can't trade nothing

Ships have mass now which means they can slide. The speed has been increased for a variety of reasons but you just need to be careful where you go.

You are making it way to convoluted with this ... I can't be reading manuals ... just ease up and maybe more will come ...

the instructions are there for the roleplaying scene in discovery freelancer for people to find how things work. a game about roleplaying will take quite the effort to maintain. I mean, you could just outright ignore what the game stands on but be ready to face the consequences of ignoring such thing. Believe me, i did years ago. and for making it thrive, countless times have the community try various ways to get discovery's attention, if you got ideas - they'd greatly help! freelancer is sadly an old game and it's quite hard to get a foothold out there.

- will edit if i made an oopsie

Bait used to be believable.

I feel you people and applaud the loyalty to the game .... still I should not have to choose between shields and weapons .... and this is going to sound crazy to you .......... wouldn't it be fun to have a scavenger type hunt across the space looking for some artefact or whatever or race series like with that fool in Bretonia ... add a littela spica ya heard ... anything that could possibly attract some new victims players ... make a official everything account post some of the gameplay ... exciting new developments and such .............. and this question: Can you fly to Tekagi's base ........... ? Believe this if people are still playing those dota type iznards there is a place for Freelancer ....

Your delivery isn't the best but I do see some of your points. Simplification is better for reaching a wider audience.
