Bonsoir, esteemed Cretans,

My name is Hector Balzac, Sub-Director of Orbital Spa and Cruise.
Madame Cross kindly passed along your contact after the recent events we’ve both been involved in.

Once again, we find ourselves knocking on your door, and strangely, we require your assistance.
Upon my arrival at our orbiting resort in New Paris, the Riviera, I was approached in my quarters by the quartermaster. He uttered one of the most dreaded phrases within our company, second only to "labor unrest": "the alcohol is running out." To my horror, upon inspecting the warehouses with him, I realized that by "running out," he didn’t just mean the restaurant supply, but our reserves—especially the Rhum ones.

We are unsure how this could have happened; perhaps the late summer festivities contributed to this sudden alcoholic drought. But the bottom line is, we have one week’s worth of Rhum left before we’re completely dry.

We’ve ordered a small batch of Yuma "spirits" as an emergency reserve for next weekend, but I refuse to serve that trash except to our most intoxicated clients, incapable of discerning disinfectant alcohol from proper Rhum within their glasses.
We need good Rhum. We need yours. We need tons of it. Specifically:
  • 2500 barrels of young white agricole Rhum for cocktails
  • 1500 barrels of medium-aged dark agricole Rhum for cocktails
  • 500 barrels of long-aged white agricole Rhum, preferably aged in kusari whisky barrels
  • 400 barrels of long-aged dark agricole Rhum, preferably aged in libertonian bourbon barrels
  • 70 barrels of XO dark agricole Rhum
  • 30 barrels of VSOP dark agricole Rhum

We can collect it directly from you on Crete or you can ship it to Hawaii—whichever works for you—as long as it arrives by Saturday. Let us know your price, or suggest what we can send in return to fill the holds of your cargo ships on the return trip. Medicines, other alcohol, water and food—we’ll make it worth your while.

Please assist us. Do not allow our clients to consume that molasses-based sludge from Yuma. It is a matter of class and good taste.

Respectfully
Hector Balzac

Well met Hector Balzac. The Deterrence receives you.

Few things can make a man's hair stand on their end. Death, Nomads, hearing the words "the alcohol is running out". I have heard that Gallia is a place of class and quality unmatched when it comes to the culinary arts and alcohol, sourcing the most exotic and the best from all around the sector, including Cretan rum. Hearing about your concerns I can imagine the critical problem you're facing. After all, there's nothing worse for a man in your line of business than hearing that your prized reserves are running out.

The Deterrence enjoys worthwhile endeavors. Especially when it involves something as...delicate as keeping Riviera Resort's reputation intact in Gallia. We have had such valuable shipments before, and we take our commitments seriously. So do the clients that have called on us and they are important people who do serious business...

Thus The Conclave has agreed to your request. There will be a transport fleet prepared to deliver the Rum to your Luxury Liner in the Sigma-19 system. There is, howerver a proposition the Conclave would like to present to you.

The transport fleet that is being prepared is very capable of this mission and can ship a lot more than what you have asked for. As you are on the opposite end of the sector, the logistics needed for transporting so little Rum to Gallia will not be worth it. If you agree, the fleet can deliver triple the amount of barrels to your Luxury Liner. I assume that would be enough to refill your reserves and even more.

For the terms of this request - tell me what you're willing to offer in return, and The Deterrence will see to it that the rum flows and your clients are none the wiser. After all, diplomacy is just as much about delivering the goods as it is about making the right promises. Shall we get down to business?

Καλησπέρα Dimitrious Konstantinou,

It's a relief to receive such a quick response. Finally, someone who understands our concerns—who else but the brilliant minds of the Empire?

Tripling the number of barrels? Although I doubt we will have enough available transports in such a short time to move such a quantity of goods in a single day, the offer is too tempting to turn down. Agreed: 15,000 barrels of rhum to Hawaii. Probably enough to get every citizen of Sirius and Gallia drunk for a night.

Now, to make your return home profitable. We understand that your Empire is engaged on multiple fronts simultaneously. While we cannot assist with ammunition or similar items—not for lack of willingness but simply because we do not possess them—I have another proposal.

You see, I am not a military man; quite the opposite. I’m an avid reader and lover of history. Over the years, I’ve come to understand one simple recurrent truth about war: they are not won by generals or strategists; they are won by the soldiers who fight them.
And how does one keep a soldier well motivated to commit capital sins day after day and survive the hell of battle? Propaganda? Fear? No.
By keeping them well-fed. Full belly, empty mind. It makes them the perfect tool.

We have tons of vacuum-packed ration meals ready to be shipped directly to the mess halls of your warships. Not the dreadful rations given to the military. No. We are talking about standard meals fit for second and first-rank officers of OS&C. Starter, main course, side dish, bread, sauces, dessert—basically a feast most of your sailors probably haven’t seen in their lifetime..

If only you could ensure that these rations are delivered exclusively to ships and crews engaged on fronts against our common enemies, such as those communist pests nesting in the Omegas, and not to those involved in theaters bordering Rheinland and Bretonia, we would gladly fill the bellies of your soldiers. Explaining to Her Majesty's Government why food packages bearing our gleaming logo were found in the cargo hold of an incapacitated vessel of yours would be quite a headache for our legal team. I hope you understand.

If this sounds good to you, let us know as soon as possible so we can start sending supplies to Hawaii.

Respectfully
Hector Balzac

Καλησπέρα Hecor Balzac. Your message has been received.

The Conclave is most pleased with the idea of offering food to the Vanguards and Rearguards of our fleets. Food is something that has immense value on Crete. Every meal is a reminder of the struggle for survival and the victories we have achieved. There is a popular saying "Quien come con cordura, por su salud procura" which can be interpereted as "You are what you eat". Offering such a valuable resource to the Vanguards and Rearguards is more than just a gesture of goodwill—it's a statement of solidarity and mutual respect. When you eat well, you will be well. It is the truth of the human condition.

I have another ask from you on behalf of the Conclave. The Deterrence is organising a feast to celebrate the incredible achievements and work done by Primarch Ravenna Nagash for making The Deterrence what it is today. This is not a celebration just for us, but for the entire Corsair Imperio aswell. Thus, The Deterrence would wish, on top of getting the rations, to have one of your luxury liner present in orbit of Planet Crete during the celebrations. We shall use the luxury services on it to enhance the feast.

If you agree to this request, I will personally send recommendation for the crew of that ship what they can prepare for our people. After that we will negotiate a proper time and date for when the ship will have to move. We will provide safe passage through the Omicrons and to Planet Crete.

The Deterrence understand the importance of discretion in such matters, and you can trust that the details of this arrangement will remain strictly between us. The Deterrence will make sure to use your food rations only on Corsair stations. None of you food will be found in the cargo unit of our combat vessels and thus nobody will know about what you have done.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this request, and together, we will make this celebration one worthy of the Imperio's finest.

Hector Balzac, I bring you news about your Rum.

This message will reach you late but its nevertheless important. The Deterrence has completed their delivery of rum that you have requested. Around 15 000 barrels in total have been delivered to the Luxury liner you have specified. It was on time and this message will have attached the cargo manifest with a proper timestamp.

Communications were lost for some time and I hope this new message will reastablish and continue what we had going on prior to losing contact.

My previous ask to use the services of one of your luxury lines in orbit of Crete is now null. The ration supplies, however will make up for that missed opportunity, and we will still keep the promise to use these rations only on Corsair stations. The Conclave expects you, Hector Balzac, to uphold your end of this deal, even if we did not manage to finalize it.

I will leave this cargo manifest here for you to inspect carefully and we will be waiting for communications to be reastablished
