Alternative Bomber Type - Guest - 05-16-2009 http://tinypic.com/r/120jhpw/5 Just as a small Open SP Test I changed the Fafnir to have 4 guns, no torps, and a Torp Launcher setup as a Mine Launcher. Idea? Mine Launchers allow you to fire them regardless of where your aiming, whereas a torp launcher will only fire if aiming within its firing angle. I had heard the Fafnir was originally supposed to be able to fire a second torp at its target after passing it firing its first torp. Anyways......something like this would mainly only work against larger cap ships such as some cruisers and heavier. But gives a rather interesting idea for bomber alternatives. Alternative Bomber Type - VincentFerrex - 05-16-2009 Like, a portable quick flying Liberty Cruiser cannon on a ship? Alternative Bomber Type - Asgardian - 05-16-2009 Interesting idea. So the mine locks onto the target and then move towards it? If so...wouldn't this be good against basically anything? Maybe I'm just a little confused. Alternative Bomber Type - Guest - 05-16-2009 Ahh, the suicide bomber? I think we did that, replaced a barghests torp with a edited 'antimater mine'. to hit the hardpoint for the shield it had to have a big range, so, basically you'd nuke yourself in the process. And dont forget the Nuke+TCD, how would you prevent bombers from instakilling fighters then? Alternative Bomber Type - Guest - 05-16-2009 No to all of ya. It has no tracking, or motor, the only movement it has is Muzzle Velocity, same as the SN and any other gun. It has no "friction" which means it wont stop and stay in a single spot like most mines. As for shield damage, A similar gun could probably be made as a non-explosive shield killer. I find it very hard to hit a Fighter with it, unless the Fighter let you fly on top of him for 15 seconds to line up the shot... Only guaranteed hit with the damned thing is on a large capital ship such as BC's and battleships. The only thing it being a mine launcher does, is allow you to fire it without aiming in a defined firing angle. Other than that, its just like any other gun. Alternative Bomber Type - Guest - 05-16-2009 Beleive me, peeps WILL find a way to hit fighters with those, just allow us some time. SO what you are saying, its like a boling ball, it goes the same trajectory and momentum as your ship when you drop it? so it's basically a Nova torp, without traction. *shakes head* dun' think so. Currently the bomber is balanced enough, if only people could stop whining about it instaing fighters with SNs, since the fighter cannot press A and D once a while. Alternative Bomber Type - Friday - 05-16-2009 Experiment a bit more with it. I find the concept to be intruiging. Though the damage output of that launcher needs to be balanced against its fire rate (one cant shoot Nova Torps that fast). Alternative Bomber Type - Saronsen - 05-16-2009 He was speaking about the launcher in Skype last night.. There's no way it's going to be dropping bombs as powerful as a Nova or a SNAC, but it'll be roughly the same in Damage per second. Basically, said bombs would be doing 15.000-20.000 shield, and 30-40.000 hull per drop. Maybe a little less, but they leave you much more exposed to the capital ship (You'd probably be thrusting by so you aren't barraged by it.) More or less, its a good weapon, but high risk if you're not smart with it. I can see bombers getting instagibbed all the time by thinking they can sit there to kill a capital ship. Edit: (It was also my idea that made real -applauds- Gooo Raisu) Alternative Bomber Type - Guest - 05-16-2009 Got disconnected before i was able to reply. Sindroms, this has nothing to do with bomber balance, ffs. Keep that crap to the relevant thread, damned annoyance. Not even near Nova Torp, only a 26m (up for discussion) explosion radius, the thing fires downwards and behind the ship so unless you have a modded Camera on your bomber itd be almost impossible to land a hit on a fighter. Plus this requires the bomber to be up close within 750 of its target to hit. And like Magnarot said, it wouldnt do 132,000+ per bomb, it would however do an equivalent amount of Damage per Second. Possibly a slight bit more damage per second given the risks involved in using it. Alternative Bomber Type - Rommie - 05-16-2009 I like the idea But, like Magnarot, said, it is a high risk weapon. But any weapon requires training to master. This is no exception |
