To: ^Y^ - Republica de Malta - 11-18-2024

To whom it may concern,

My name is Sabrina Iltzmann, Secretary of Foreign Affairs for the Republic of Malta. I understand one of your own had an interaction with a patrol fighter of the Armed Forces, and voiced concerns with the Republic's alignment as well as its origin. In the pursuit of maintaining a working relationship with as many sects of the IMG as we can, I'm reaching out to allay any concerns your Syndicate may have.

To start, I want to assure you that, while the Republic traces its origins back to Malta, many of Malta's goals and beliefs are antithetical to those the Republic has held since its founding. For these reasons, we've worked closely wherever possible with both Crayter and the IMG to oppose the Dons' smuggling and slavery operations in the Tau sector. Though diminished, we continued this until the Sirius-wide blackout and the subsequent epidemic that struck our people, and many of our remaining officials began to involve themselves deeper with the Crayterians.

This point made, I would be quite interested in knowing your concerns regarding the Republic's position. I'm well aware of tensions between the IMG and Crayter, some of which I know stretch back to events during the Gallic Invasion, but these have never effected the Republic's position towards those who stand against Malta's plans. Should you be able to, we would also be interested in knowing the specifics of the IMG's recent shift against Crayter. As it stands, our friends on Yuma have been fairly quiet on this matter, and those that we've spoken to have attempted deflection when asked.
In the meantime, should you encounter any of our people in space, please do not hesitate to call on them for aid should they be needed. While I don't claim to speak on the Armed Forces' behalf, Ms. Cortez has spoken at length about keeping the Taus safe, and I'm quite inclined to agree with her.

I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.

Farewell.

Now there's a surprise.

Maltese Crayterians. Never thought I'd hear it.

I'll do you this one favor and explain what should be obvious. The Guild has no love left to lose for Crayter on account of how they -- you, I suppose -- have squandered it all. We took them in as refugees, gave them a home, purely out of the goodness of our hearts, never expectin' them to turn into a formidable fighting machine. Had we known what that machine would be used for, maybe we would've turned the Crayterians away to die and saved ourselves plenty of grief down the line. Eight years ago, Crayter stabbed us in the back, causing us to lose not only Ă…land, but Cardiff as well -- one of the original homes of our movement -- and ever since they've continued to attempt to cannibalize us, to sell us out, use us for target practice, impose their will on free people. Crayter has shown its true colors countless times over.

Crayter has unilaterally seized control of Jericho, despite the Guild pioneerin' its exploration and Crayter's lackin' the expertise to exploit the uranium underneath its crust, despite our reasonable protests. Crayter has unilaterally tried to seize total control of Coronado, despite the Guild charting the system and gifting Yuma to the Republic. Crayter settled hundreds of thousands of people on Pecos in a naked attempt to steal a second moon away from us. Crayter has gone so far as to destroy transports of refugee slaves, thrown in shackles by your mutant kin and abused for who knows how long harvesting razor-sharp flora to fund the further exploitation of innocent souls like themselves, putting an abrupt and painful end to hundreds of lives just as those poor bastards thought they finally had a chance at something approachin' a half-decent goddamn life, somethin' vaguely like a relief from years of pain -- all this after dozens of Guild and Crayter pilots alike lost their lives to free them. So much for respect for the dead.

Crayter has betrayed everyone that ever called them a friend, in a pathetic attempt to earn the good graces of the fascist slavers, little better than the mongrel genefreaks of your own homeworld, who oppress billions in the so-called "Great Houses", desperate for foreign capital extracted from workers forced into dehumanizin' conditions and from those same workers forced into literal slavery in the prisons of the bourgeoise, all so that they can retool their economy to mirror these monstrous systems and perpetually chase growth for its own sake, in service to the ideology of the cancer cell. Darkly fitting given the Traitor Republic's history of cancerous leeching.

The fact Crayter was willing to accept your so-called federation with them, as your pilot told our comrade in Tau-44 the other cycle, reveals what an utter farce the concept of the nation-state is. The Traitor Republic's population, at present, consists of approximately ninety percent Bretonian refugees. What politician who cares for "the nation" as more than an abstraction could in good conscience sign away its state to domination by outsiders? And yet, Yuma has done so thrice over. Once to millions of Leedsfolk -- who, make no mistake, deserve a good home, dependable livelihoods, and humane conditions -- once to Bretonian robber-barons, and once to Liberty's rootless haute-bourgeoise. "The nation" means less than nothing to anyone, and yet your own name for yourself, the "Republic of Malta", pays lip service to this self-defeating concept, even as you willingly associate with vampires and vultures whose entire existence rests on undermining the notion.

The fact you claim to hold the Guild as friends, you express "deep concern" for our perspectives, is completely undone by your willing association with these out-and-out megalomaniacal authoritarians, who deny so much as the right to political participation to the majority of the captive population under them who, much like those refugee slaves I've mentioned earlier, sought relief from heartbreaking conditions of genocide following lifetimes of wage slavery underneath an oppressive smog-filled sky. Any belief we, the assembled syndics of the Kongsi Syndicate, might have in your alleged redemption arc, earned by rightly renouncing your own deeply evil mutant subrace of slavers and murderers, is entirely thrown away by your choice of confederates. You might've outwardly renounced Malta, but your association with unabashed murderers of civilians who eagerly impress countless more into conditions of what amounts to indentured servitude for starvation wages shows that you've no problems continuin' to do the same sort of dirty work.

All the aforementioned shows that you're, in the best case, incredibly stupid, or in the worst, lying to either us or yourselves. None of these possibilities give us any confidence that you're willing to deal with us in good faith.

You're lucky we don't hunt down each and every one of you and put you out of your goddamned misery.

I'm hopin' the above adequately explains our perspective.

Lex Setiawan,

I want to address each point you've made, and I will concede that they are well made, but please allow me to first offer my deepest sympathies. While they may not be much, especially against the hardships the Guild and its people have endured at the hands of those both within and outside the Taus, I believe it is at the very least well warranted given the circumstances.

As to those hardships, understand that there were a great many both within our Republic and Crayter's that contested the group that left to assist the Bretonian Armed Forces in Omega-3. To my understanding, each were marked as traitors, and though our influence at the time was minor, we offered any who survived swift transport to Yuma for sentencing and imprisonment. In hindsight, a foolish move, and one that allowed traitors to be hailed as heroes, even as the Crayterian flagship burned in Aland's orbit. Crayter in that time we believed stood for better, and it was the aftermath of these events that perhaps should have told us of the dark path they were taking.

I will not lie to you. While I do find your concerns credible, and your anger with Crayter wholly understandable, I cannot in good conscience accept that the Quorum of Ministers would agree as a unified bloc on these matters. That is not to say that there are not hawks within Crayter that have evidently brought them closer to the level of the enemies they once fought. The recent election of Mr. Ellis to their presidency brought considerable concern to our people, and those who follow his beliefs are numerous and only add to the problem. Still, there are voices within Crayter, however small or numerous, that do not support these actions, and one would be wise to account for them.

We are in alignment that Crayter's choice of allies has not aged well. Bretonia and Liberty were stalwart friends during the war, but their actions since have left much to be desired. Regardless, it is foolish to assume that any nation would throw away ties to those who provide a magnitude of strength to their efforts. We cannot under any circumstance condone Liberty's practice of prison labor, nor Bretonia's wanton imperialism raising instability across its border regions with civil strife brewing not a stone's throw from their capitol. Nonetheless, despite these mortal flaws they are still valuable in the fight to suppress the flow to and from the homeworld.

Such is the view we keep of the Guild. We have always accepted there will be skeptics within any organization we establish communications with--the Guild, the Council, even our hosts in Crayter--purely due to our origins, yet our perspective has never changed. Our people have always stood by those who share our beliefs, be it literally or figuratively. We are still only a handful of souls clinging to an ideal, but even those who have come to us from Leeds, Veracruz, Nuremberg, we welcomed them with open arms as we would any who share our determination.

It is clear to me that establishing relations with your Kongsi Syndicate would not be the best use of our resources at this time, a fact I do want to stress I am stating with all the respect it is due. Nevertheless, the Republic's previous offer to provide assistance to your people will not be rescinded. Be it defense, logistics, or some other service, should it be within our capability to provide, we shall.

Thank you.
Farewell.
