[Ships] Longhorn dies to certain planets in autopilot - MasterL410 - 11-18-2024

Type: Ships/Systems?
Bug: When the Longhorn tries to go around some planets in auto-pilot, it can not slow down fast enough and crashes into the atmosphere.

Reproduction Steps:
  • Own a longhorn frigate-thingy
  • Choose to dock/go-to to e.g. a Mooring Fixture of a planet. But your ship is on the side or behind the planet, not in a straight line.
  • Your ship will cruise up fast, then slow down, crash into the atmosphere, start exploding and only then make the turn. You die.

Additional Information: This was tested undocking from Rhodes Shipyard and then choosing to dock on Planet Crete. But I am sure there are several other planets where this will happen too.

Same Happens on Archon.

Same happens with suns (for example red dwarfs). Succesfully tested incidentally.

This is because it has a ton of mass and moves very fast. this is not really a bug, but more a peculiarity of the ship.

Don't F2 and then go AFK.
Problem solved.

Capital ships have been dying to autopilot for a year now. Adding mass causes this. There is an argument to be made that you shouldn't afk when flying through a planet, but the autopilot should still not kill you. I'll mark it as work in progress, it's not a simple fix or we'd have done it by now. We have some ideas how to address it.
