Smuggling Event

DATE & TIME

OVERVIEW

When the Outcasts began trading with the Xenos, the Liberty Rogues and Lane Hackers saw it as an act of betrayal. Perhaps some Junker clans felt the same way, though that’s less certain. However, if you’re not an Outcast Don backed by deadly assassins ready to fulfill your every desire, you can’t afford personal feelings or honor in this line of work. The business environment has changed, new cards have been dealt, and the black market in Liberty carries on without pause. Hesitation or ideals are nothing but obstacles to success - waver, and someone else will snatch your share. This is especially true for the Cardamine trade, but it also applies to Artifacts and other illicit goods.

When the fixers among the Liberty Rogues, Junkers, and Lane Hackers learned of a substance called Slog, it opened up a new opportunity on the black market, one that demanded swift action to secure the most advantageous position. A few saw it as revenge against the Outcasts, but more importantly, it promised yet another income stream ripe for exploitation.

For the Xenos, however, Slog posed a serious threat. Their members and supporters were the most vulnerable to this new foreign drug from Bretonia. Unlike Cardamine, which caters to the wealthy and powerful, Slog targets the downtrodden working class - the very people the Xenos claim as their own and refuse to see enslaved by foreigners. They will not only need to stop as many shipments as possible, but also secure a reasonable amount of the drug for the inevitable makeshift addict rehabilitation.

The Outcasts view this new trade with distaste. For them, it’s just another distraction for their vassals, but for now they’re holding off on any direct response. After all, it’s yet another problem that the Liberty authorities must address, further diverting their attention from what truly matters to Malta.

In the end, both the Gaians and the Mollys welcomed this unexpectedly aggressive interest from Liberty and allowed their new trade partners to dock at their foremost distribution stations. They decided to make the most of it by forging special trade agreements to secure as many potential buyers as possible for their own Slog networks. The Mollys, in particular - driven by the extremely complicated situation in Dublin - are happy for every credit they can use in their struggle for independence against the Crown.

It’s the start of a new drug war in Liberty.

DETAILS

Slog:
  • All Slog resellers in and near Liberty will run out of stock when the event starts.
  • Due to skyrocketing demand, the price of Slog will go up by 4x the current amount, to $300.
  • Slog must be bought from Mull or Skye and sold at Beaumont or Houston for leaderboard placement.
  • Slog can be sold for $475 at Beaumont and Houston, and for lower* amounts at select fences.

Slog Warehouses:
  • The Liberty Rogues and the Xenos have set-up temporary depots to house Slog. These bases are only accessible by Rogue and Xeno ids, respectively. Additional characters can be cleared after INRP comms.
  • The Rogue warehouse is located by the Drunken Codger. The Xeno warehouse is located by Milford Base. They purchase Slog for the same price as the nearby fence.

    Rule Changes:
    • Trade Ships docking in Liberty and bordering systems with Slog during a hostile encounter ARE considered to be "killed".

    Rewards:
    Smuggler ID
Requires shipping at least 300,000 units of Slog. The total can be combined across all of your characters.

Shared Ships (XA- and [R]-* only)
Requires depositing Slog at your faction's warehouse: 30,000 per ship, 10 ships max. Reply to the thread or pm @Barrier with a list of ships and their equipment.
    *Any Rogue faction will do.

    Custom Title
Requires an INRP write-up about the event from the point of view of your character. Can be submitted as a report within a relevant faction channel, or as part of a story thread.

Results

An enormous volume of Slog has made its way to the Texas markets, only partially stemmed by the efforts of Xenos and various pirates operating independently. Xeno and Rogue investments into overflow storage did not bear fruit for different reasons - not enough cargo recovered from burning wrecks, and the mountain of demand from the Libertonian working class. While Cryer has already been tapped for a potential solution to the growing crisis, the bubble seems to have burst for now, with various vendors beginning to sell off inventory as markets cautiously return to normal.

Based on the above numbers, players of the following characters are eligible for the Smuggler ID:
  • Joseph.Stealin, Randolf.Gerber, & Empty.Barrell(~44%)
  • Narva, Pikksarv, S.Malcolm, & Empty.Barrell(~56%)
  • LV-Thoroughbred
  • Malta.Supplier
  • Spondulica

Please respond in the thread with all of your characters' names and their scores if the combined total makes you eligible for the ID. You may also pm me with this information if you wish to remain anonymous. You should also let me know where to put the ID - otherwise, it will go on the ship you used in the event.

Finally, please respond in the thread with any RP you have about the event to receive a custom title (and which account it should go on).

It's made to streamline trade to the two "main" buyers, with the fences being worse on purpose. Although with the fence bases not counting towards the big reward - Smuggler ID - we could up the price on certain out-of-the-way fences a little bit.

Starting tomorrow, the Rogues and Xenos will be able to work towards a new shared ship reward by filling warehouses located near two of their Slog fences. Read the new details in the main post, and let me know if you have any questions.
