Refitted experimental "Heisei"-class Tokugawa Status: Trial Run Phase I Battleship "Nagato" in proximity of Heaven's Gate
Debrief: During the large-scale joint offensive operation by the Blood Dragons and the terrorists of the Order twenty days ago, the IKN-Nagato under direct command of Kaigun Gensui Okamoto, successfully staged a distraction maneuver enabling other Naval Forces units to protect the engine nodes in a critical last moment. This noble sacrifice resulted in a grandiose success of the defensive operation conducted within Tohoku, albeit at the cost of the Nagato's engine systems and significant, but non-critical damage to the reactors. The disabled husk was towed to Ichiyaga Drydock, despite the KOI facility lacking the means to properly work on Tokugawa-class vessels, to guarantee its safety until the situation normalized. Following intense discussions between the KOI and the Admiralty, the Nagato was provided to the engineers of the Chochinbi Division as testbed for a possibly revolutionizing engine array based on lessons learnt from the ongoing engine node experiments. Due to the prototype nature, the performance of these arrays was tweaked to mirror the previously utilized standard Samura built engines at the request of the Kaigun Gensui - despite assurances by the KOI that the engine output could be much higher. Comments about the strange energy emissions surrounding the ship were dismissed by the Chochinbi engineers as a required side-effect of the reduced engine performance output, citing that the node installed to provide the engine arrays with thrust has a fix energy output and any unused energy requires to be expelled otherwise and may materialize as some sort of "energy mist" at the polarized hull of the vessel. As Ichiyaga lacks the means to finalize repairs on the standard reactor systems, the Nagato is scheduled to return to Kure Shipyard within the next days. Debrief: Kaigun Gensui Okamoto, on behalf of the engineering team currently on board the Nagato. The last weeks were surprisingly calm and gave opportunity for a wide array of field trials. I am pleased with the modifications of the Nagato, despite the eerie feeling creeping up everyone's spine when they enter the engine decks. The engineers of Kure discovered one massive flaw to these experimental arrays however: Ichigaya's team reconfigured the Nagato's shield generators in a way disallowing the purposeful disabling of the shields themselves and added two emergency power generators drawing from the main reactors to maintain a miniscule energy field polarizing the hull even in the event of a critical shield failure. Our engineers explained to me that in the scenario of both emergency generators also failing, the excess energy generated by - as it turned out an Alien Artifact - will accumulate to a point of critical overload. Should this excess energy not be removed somehow, the entire engine array would be ripped apart in an explosion likely strong enough to render the rest of the Nagato mere debris as well. Beginning tomorrow, Kure's engineering team will start to examine alternative ways to release potential excess energy through various means. This step shall be noted as "Trial Phase II". This is all. In service of his Imperial Majesty and the people of Kusari, Kaigun Gensui Okamoto [Debrief last amended: 02.01.834, 22:03 SST] |
