Suggestions to Administration and Members - kingvaillant - 05-25-2009 Static, overruled, devoid of any evolution and benefits... Is how I can define the structure of this community right now. First affirmation, it is totally accurate to say that most of the community agrees that the current number of server rules is excessive. The number of rules that were created in the late months is beyond what I've seen since I'm here (apr 07). There was, until recently, a ridiculous amount of admin notices. Hopefully it was cleaned a bit... thank god. We have gotten to a point where we are making a rule for each specific issue. As if we were trying to fix every possible loophole we could found. My point is that some of these loopholes... are vital to the welfare of the MORAL of this community. Trying to fill them all will occasion a lot of frictions between diverse persons versus very little benefits. The best example I could use is the bounty rule, the application caused lots of frictions...The combat announcement rule too...to some extent though. Second affirmation, it is CERTAIN that the current structure of the community has removed nearly all responsibilities from the player. most of the time, the player will avoid trying to reason with the violator in fear of getting sanctioned for rule lawyering. Only one wrong word could be enough to get smacked and may we consider that not everyone here is able to speak a very rich English and may use some basic words which can be misunderstood or misinterpreted. Third affirmation, it is also very accurate to say that some members of this community consider their rights to speak freely being near non-existent. Posts deletion, flames from other members, etc. Forth affirmation, it is plausibly exact to affirm that the distinction between diverse groups or character statuses within the community is getting more and more...non-existent. This is making the quest to obtain these specific statuses totally... unnecessary...and thus, making it a waste of time for the player as they get very little advantages from it versus the time spent. Plus, it is making some concepts some groups would like to apply...impossible to do due to some restrictions, even if they could bring more benefits to a great number of persons. Fifth affirmation, I have noticed for a long time a big lack of "warnings" issued to minor rules violators. Instead, it is, vlam! sanction... this is not fine. It is like getting a cop ticket for a burnt headlight instead of a 48 hours warning. (see below) Sixth affirmation, Tolerance? empathy? patience? anyone here knows the meaning of these words? Or most of you have become egoist and self-centered? If you want this place to get better, start by making yourself more...nice toward slip-ups? Heck, when I first came here, I used to violate so much rules that I wouldn't event be here anymore; I swore, spoke french, was oorp, overkilled and abused some game glitch (Harris). Because members were, tolerant, look where I am now. As far as I know, I'm not a bad player at all. This is, to my belief, what we need to fix. A to-do list... There is a few things here that can be easily worked on. notably the 3rd, 5th and 6th affirmations. What needs to be done about those 3 is blatant... We all gotta need to change our methods when dealing with others. Everyone here needs to show more tolerance and empathy for newcomers. I was shown a lot of tolerance from older members when I first joined... why should I not do the same with newcomers and other members? The first and fourth affirmations will need a lot of reflection from everyone. Such topics may occasion a lot of frictions and debates, but they are needed. Short term, it WILL be hellish. Although, in long term, once an agreement has been reached, everything should be cool:). 2nd affirmation is a reaction to the first one. Now, the suggestion part... We need a suggestion box... if you get what I mean. Where GROUPS (5+ players co-signing a letter/message/concern/request/etc) can express themselves and bring ideas to the admin team related to rules and community. I'm saying 5 persons, as this would filter most spam and let more time to focus on more important issues. This will also allow members to feel being listened to (the point below is related to this too) contrary to the current solution were most are feeling ignored by the admins, including me. We also need more communication between the admin team and the rest of the community. Right now, nobody has a clue of what is going on behind the doors. We don't know what the admins are working on, and we can't really express our opinion on it, as we don't know the subject. What happen in the end is that we get a new rule/way to do things/method that comes right out of the blue and causes frictions between players since they weren't prepared against such thing. I wouldn't be surprised if the source of hate toward the admin team is DIRECTLY related to this. On the same line with the suggestion box, there should be a comment box on the admin team performance. After all, we are all human and we need to improve every day of our lives. We have qualities and flaws. It would also only accept comments coming from groups of persons (5+) to avoid any spam or very egoist and biased critics. Now, that is all I have to say, for the moment. I'd like everyone to discuss on the subjects in a very rational and civil way. Posts not respecting those two requirements are invited to be deleted by the persons who can do so. Oh please, I don't want any "signed", etc... They don't bring anything valuable to this topic. Thank you for your time. Suggestions to Administration and Members - Spear - 05-25-2009 All I really have to say regarding the rules is that they should be as short, simple and concise as possible. I've seen the community go through far worse weather than this weekend's storm in a teacup. Take heart that there is a debate going on, we really don't need more and more rules added to the existing ones. I'd agree more warnings rather than a full sanction for first time offenders is a good idea (depending on the violation, I mean if they are hacking, they can eat that perma ban!) Suggestions to Administration and Members - Bear - 05-25-2009 I tottally agree with you sir, when I first came here people would zoom around NY in all sorts of craft. Back then people would just let it go. As I see it nownew players don't know how to RP or do anything right because when they first come here this is what happens: post somewhere that they are new get told by a billion and one people that they have to read the rules and then they try and play in open space There are a few problems with the situation above and I'll list them: 1. When they read the the server rules 9 times out of 10 they haven't played yet and don't understand what it is all about 2. When they acctually get in game it is so overwhelming that they really can't grasp what it is all about, where they are allowed to go, allowed to do and who to speak and interact with. These things lead new people to ask around for money because put simply they don't know how to make it in the right way and really don't understand why people don't like them asking for money by going "$$$$$ PLSSSSS!!!!!!!" (I get this all the time). So I totally agree with you mate. I invite every person who writes a welcome post to ask more questions on the forums, including questions about the rules and I am an angel. What more can be done to help new players while keeping this an RP server? As for the first post, I will respond to that when I am not so sleepy. Suggestions to Administration and Members - lw'nafh - 05-25-2009 Agreed mate, even look at what this is doing to the community, effectively making people want to leave, I myself have only been back for a few months and considering going away 'till it (hopefully) gets better... Suggestions to Administration and Members - Varyag - 05-25-2009 There is a lot to be said about "lead by example." There is a good base of old players that would like to see some of the friendliness come back to the server, and I think it rests on our shoulders to do it. There are some guys that are just not going to get a lot of what goes into this server, and they are going to filter through, but, we will keep players long term if we just help and set an example. Bah... I don't know what I am trying to say. I have been thrashing around on a 4 wheeler all day and my brain is fried. I guess I am trying to say we have to fix ourselves first before we expect the situation to get better. Suggestions to Administration and Members - Baltar - 05-25-2009 I'd like to see less micro-interpretation of the rules. Too many people are reading into the rules what doesn't exist ... admins included. The whole discussion of whether piracy is considered a PVP event for example. Traders do not follow the same rules as PVP ... they don't have to follow the 4 hour rule when they get destroyed by a pirate ... so how can piracy be considered PVP? The justification I keep hearing for this is that "guns are fired." Nowhere in the rule book does it even remotely indicate this. Its somebody's micro-interpretation. Rules need to be clear and concise and not open for interpretation. A simple "you die ... you switch characters or leave for 30 minutes" ... clear ... concise ... and not open to interpretation. All rules need to be this simple. Instead we've got the if-then nested list that has become ambiguous. Suggestions to Administration and Members - swift - 05-25-2009 I agree with the topic. Suggestions to Administration and Members - Eppy - 05-25-2009 All I'll say is that I think the community was better off when I was considered a neoconservative psycho. |
