ALL my characters are missing - sunergos - 12-30-2006
I'm not sure where to put this , there wasn't a "whiny rant" section that I saw, so my appologies if it is out of place.
see there was a server crash and then freelancer would die in a most unbecoming nature whenever I tried to connect to the discovery server on that account.
so, what do I do?
I backed up my id number, uninstall discovery, uninstall freelancer, reinstall freelancer, reinstall discovery, set my id and... the character screen is blank. well, there are no characters there anyway.
At first I thought I'd screwed up the id, but i have an account on the blue knights server i use when the server is full, and everything is there. so its the right number, but all my stuff is gone, including:
my large train (camulous)
my storage ship (pitter hammerberg - lux liner with a ton of codename and generally really expensive weps for bombers)
my SF ships
sff arawn - taiidan bomber with two nova cannons and four nomad blasters
petrov hammarberg - hussar with a kryken 2, tizona, and two wyrm cannons, so I guess i dont need that name change)
a well apointed camara freighter called ronin-xo-canti I can live without.
more than 300 mil in liquid credits, mkviii armor upgrades on all, i think and who knows what I am forgetting.
Any chance of getting my characters back? or some of my credits? or at least finding out what happened? thats basically all ive done with my vacation. Pitiful, i know, but now all for naught?
And I would be willing to swear in a court of law that this is not some ploy for free credits, just ask if you want some references.

Ouch, that must be harsh, to have that happen. I do know that the admins will sometimes refund people, but don't cpunt 100% percent on it.

No clue how this could happen. once accounts are made, they're stored ON The server. if the server crashes, the account DB can't be wiped out, unless one of us changed the citera for 'inactive player wipe'

Huh. Well, I believe you, alright. This has happened to some of us before (namely Virus), but no one ever had all of their players wiped at once. Of course, the server has been acting strange recently...

Hmm. Double check your backup ID and your new ID. You might of missed spelled something. Thats all I can think of.

I was there when this happened too. Sorry Peter. The server crashed on us and then when we both got back on, he had a different char and said that all of the chars on the other acct were gone. I can help you out with any money you need and any weps I have to get you going. That sucks big man. Hope it all works out in the end.

Well, I appreciate the show of support anyway. I am sure that it is the right account number, because characters I have created show up on another server. I get one of two things when I try; I activate the account with freelancer account manager, launch freelancer, select the discovery 24/7 server, click connect and a)I get kicked back to the desktop. A few seconds later I get an error that freelancer.exe caused an error in module common.dll, or b) it tegives me the "thsi operation is taking a really long time, press esc tp cancel" message and finaly comes up to a blank character list. And it only happens with this account on this server. the other account still works fine, and this account on the bk server works fine. The only thing I can imagine contributing to this was the server crashed, I logged in under another account right after, transfered some turrets to archangel to put in storage, tried to log in under the currently problematic account, and freelancer crashed.
Sorry to beat a dead horse, but after all that time, its this or beat my head against the wall and the sheetrock's starting to resemble a golfball...
last thing i'm going to try is to log in on another computer. here's hoping.
Oh, and I dont see this being a character wipe, as I have logged into all of these accounts in the last 72 hours, and have (way to) many hours logged on all of them.

Re-download discovery mod. bet that's the issue.

ok, tried it on a new computer, new install of freelancer and new install of discovery, still won't do anything new. Wolfpack, if there's nothing else to try, could you wipe that account so I can use it without all the lockups?
