William Flyheight - Alexander Draconis - 06-13-2009 William Flyhieght Occupation: Freighter Captain (Former Partner of Farline Enterprises) William was a born border worlds resident. Raised on the space stations of the border systems by his family of miners and businessmen, he had a good life for a border brat. He made himself useful as a mechanic's assistant and clerk for the cargo ships his family did business with until he was in his teens. At 15, he was sent into the core systems of Liberty for schooling, due to the war torn nature of Bretonia and Kusari, as well as the questionable civilian conditions of Rheinland. In Liberty he was well educated and shaped into a business-minded man with ideology and ambition, as well as a desire to acquire and defend all he would need. When he came back to the mining and trading colonies in the border worlds, he applied his expertise to his family's dwindling assets. Sadly, all the gains he achieved in this time were muted. The family was having a harder time staying safe out in the border worlds, and were forced to sell most of what they had to retreat into Liberty space. There they found limited opportunities to mine thanks to Xeno interference in the Colorado system, as well as other criminal elements making raids on what little they did manage to acquire from the fields. William's father and two brothers settled on Pueblo station while his mother and niece went to Planet Denver. William's uncle Dillan however was intent on making a trading life in space. William saw little use for his business savvy and ship-board skills on Pueblo, and less on Denver. He opted to follow his uncle, co-founding Farline Enterprises with a small fleet of freighters and civilian escort fighters. With this business, they executed trade runs, convoy escorts, and limited mining operations within Liberty and the border worlds where they still had connections. 3 years into the operation of Farline Enterprises, Dillan made a move on a Diamond mining contract in Rheinland without William's knowledge. For 2 months diamond shipments ran through Farline's vessels. Dillan began worrying about having to share his cut as the profits began to mount, feeling his nephew wasn't entitled to any of the money. He began embezzling heavily from the business, preparing a takeover from underneath William. William quickly noticed something amiss in the records and began investigating. He closed in on the culprit faster than Dillan expected or could afford. Not ready to seize control of the company, he opted to instead have William removed from the situation. While on a trading run with their personal vessels, Dillan sabotaged William's navigational data, taking him into a radiation field in Texas. The ship disappeared. Dillan took over the company, but because of his embezzling and poor handling of such large sums of credits and such complex allocation procedures, racked up debt in short order. William caught Dillan in the act with help from the LPI and LSF. He was arrested, but the company was already beyond saving thanks to debt. William manipulated the remaining assets so that the company broke even on it's debts, and simply folded quietly while managing to ship most of the staff to different companies that had done work with Farline. William left the headquarters of his most promising project, and as he left the California system, he felt he was leaving any hope of a prosperous life behind him. Weeks turned into months, until half a year drifted by; all the while Will tried to increase profits for the family ventures. One day, he came across something he didn't expect in the bi-annual financial audits. A nestegg of 100,000 credits, and a spare Starflyer shuttle. Dillan hadn't liquidated Will's insurance policy, much to Will's surprise. With a grand smile he began formulating a plan. Yet another month past. But this one was one of the most exciting for Will. He contacted old friends, people that worked with him and on his personal ship during the Farline Enterprises venture. Quickly and quietly, Flyhieght Ltd was born. The Ship: FHLtd-Fortune's Favor The Crew: Captain: William Flyheight - The savvy and diplomatic leader of the effort. He's possessed of a broad skill set and natural charisma. His strong ethics and sound business practices draw positive attention. Helmsman: Victor Jayce - A Bretonain born freighter jock, Jayce is a relaxed flyboy who always has a word to add. He can also brew several knockoff liquors. A dangerous combo. While he may seem cowardly, his reputation among the Bretonian Police Authority tells a story of daredevil escapades. Engineer: Brunz Schweitzer - Of Rheinland decent, Brunz was born in the Omegas. The hot-zones of the Rheinland border worlds provided more than enough opportunities to learn to fix ships. He's an expert in jury-rigging and fast repairs, with a polarized knack for meticulously sabotaging a system when the need arises. Comms Officer: Muriel Lyla - Lyla is the sweet voice of the Fortune's Favor. She's as beautiful as her voice would suggest, and enjoys giving some attention to the lonely space hounds. A Liberty citizen, she was actually born on Curacao in the Cortez system. She regularly accompanies William, and it is suggested that she is his lover. Tactical Officer: Akiko Sinclair - A strong Kusari appearance and demeanor back this formidable woman. She's trained to take on many shipboard threats and handle the gunnery station, no matter the load-out. She's stern and disciplined. She hides many things about herself, regularly sequestering herself away from others since the Bretonia/Kusari conflict began. Science/Medical Officer: Tyler Brant - A former Cryer employee, Brant joined the crew when William reformed them. He's a brilliant scientist and doctor...at the the age of 17. To outside entities, perhaps the most valuable HR commodity aboard. Still, Brant knows the value of modesty, and tends to keep a low profile. Brant mans the sensor stations and performs various duties matching his skills. The Mission: Make a good living in the stars. All 6 love the open ended adventure that life has presented them out in the black, and they wouldn't trade it in for anything just yet. |
