Strafing Controls - ryeguy146 - 06-17-2009 Okay, I know there are some ini wizards out there and I'm calling on you to help. I want to assign strafe up to my mouse's scroll bar as well as strafe down. Currently, if I scroll up, it accelerates, but I think that strafing would be much more useful. Anyone have some ideas? I just can't get the game to set the commands, so I'm assuming that it must be done manually in the INI files or somesuch. Strafing Controls - tansytansey - 06-17-2009 I've never really toyed with the control inis (successfully at least) but the two files you'll be wanting to look at are "Keylist.ini" and "Keymap.ini" They can be found in Data/Interface a copy+paste job will probably be all that is required once you find the correct entries. But be warned, last time I messed with these ini files it totally screwed over ALL my controls. Including F1. The only way to quit the game was to minimise and alt+ctrl+del But really, I'd just recommend setting up/down strafe to W and S. Strafing Controls - ryeguy146 - 06-17-2009 W and S are accelerate and brake. I'd really like to get this to work. Sounds like I'm going to have to roll up my dang sleeves and do this myself. I'll report success or failure here when I'm done as well as what I tried. If anyone decides to edit these files, DO make backups of them. *glances at Nighthawk with a smirk* Strafing Controls - ryeguy146 - 06-17-2009 This is harder than I thought. Nothing is intuitive. I'm going to need more than an ini wizard.... I need an INI NINJA! But seriously, do I have to post a reward for this? I'll do it, I swear I will. Scroll mouse wheel is accelerate and brake. *does math* conclusion: Easier to make W and S strafe than try to figure out how to change your mouse controls. Strafing Controls - ryeguy146 - 06-17-2009 You obviously think too highly of me. I've learned that W = Forward and S = Brake. There is no changing that. It is forever. FOREVER! Strafing Controls - reavengitair - 06-18-2009 Trust me. W forward and S brake is not that effective. I used to use that alot, then when I heard about using the scroll as a forward/back, I thought it would be impossible. I gave it a shot. It doesnt take long to get used to and it will help you in combat quite a bit. Strafing Controls - ryeguy146 - 06-18-2009 *sigh* I'm going to have to try it aren't I? Well hell. Strafing Controls - kurios - 06-18-2009 No! Never give up! Never Resist! Long live the W S !!!! cause.... w stands for Worward! and S stands for Stop! not up and down.... * debates keymap hackin.... * Strafing Controls - tansytansey - 06-18-2009 ' Wrote:You obviously think too highly of me. Acceleration and Braking is faster with the mouse wheel. Almost instant. I haven't used W and S for accelerating and stuff for ages, but as I recall it was much slower. Also, since A and D are your horizontal strafe, it's much easier to have all your strafing in one place. |
