Well, its about time... - Monk - 06-17-2009 Things are moving fast here...my future is uncertain but I am driven towards a goal. Here is the gist of what is going on... I knew I was smart and I loved physics so I decided to earn a degree in it. It was a struggle those four years but I got my degree. Next step was graduate school and while I did fantabulously well on the standard GRE (Graduate Record Examination) I failed pretty hard at the physics GRE, twice. It turns out I suck at math...well not really...I suck at advanced math. I've learned in the past few months that I had survived as long as I did in physics b/c I simply have phenomenal problem solving skills and an ability to memorize math sequences (but not actually learn them). So with Physics PhD dreams dashed I sorta fell into dark cave with no light to help me out. Eventually I became fed up with the self-loathing and realized...I am not good at math and therefore physics...but that is ok. I've proven that I am smart enough to get as far as I did w/o real talent for it. Once I realized this it was like putting on night vision goggles and am now making my way out of the cave. I'm a problem solver and I know that I am needed in any number of industries. I've also learned that I can still have my dream of working in a science lab doing what I do best, hands-on problem solving. The nature of this self-discovery has led me to forget this wonderful community for some time now. I am not really interested in Freelancer anymore, perhaps I've just grown bored with it, which is natural. I just think it would be appropriate to share that knowledge with the rest of the community here since I am still a member of several great factions. To the BAF, Order|, RFP, Wilde and NovaPG; you guys have been great but it is time to move on. I most likely will not return. There are so many people here who have made my experiences on Disco really special. I won't name you all, but if I've called you a moron, dumbass or weirdo over skype then you know I will remember you:Dand think you are great people. I'll lurk the forums now and again and inject my opinion when I feel like it. Maybe once in a while I'll take a Starflea for a spin and do some light RP but I am leaving the bulk of my commitment here behind. Good luck to you all and live freely and happily! -Rich Well, its about time... - Sassafras - 06-17-2009 Rich, all the best my friend. Let me know what career/job you're drawn to. Well, its about time... - Magoo! - 06-17-2009 Astrophysics! But... I suppose that'd require a different educational path. Sad face. Come teach in Indiana... Believe me, we're in desperate need. Bai bai, Monk. G'luck in life.:( Well, its about time... - Monk - 06-17-2009 ' Wrote:Astrophysics! Heh...took a couple classes in it...never really liked it much. Maybe it is b/c I don't like predicting for things that are so far away. But yeah...things are really starting to move fast here now...I'll be moving out of Chicago :'( shortly to pursue a jobs in Kansas City where I have a lot more influence. There is one that looks very promising that has me working with massive cooling towers...now I just gotta wait for that juicy federal stimulus money to come down the pipeline and break up the hiring freeze.
