The maximum resulotion I can set in FL menu is 1152x864 which is kind of ackward, so I'm using 1024x768.
That's nowhere near enough. I hear 1280x960(or 1024) is possible. How?

I'm using 1280 x 960 on my 19 inch screen (4:3 ratio). Looks perfectly fine, no stretching.

I am willing to use 1080p resolution when I connect the computer to the LCD TV, I hope this will work as well :S

You need to change the resolution value in PerfOptions.ini, located in your My Documents/My Games/Freelancer folder
I'm using a 1440x900 resolution with adapted font sizes and fov settings:

If anyone doesn't know how to use a rar, download and install 7-Zip. (<-- 32bit Windows, click here for other installers)
Once it's installed, you can right click and extract files. Also, remember to back up the Freelancer files that you are replacing.
