I'm wondering, would it count as re engaging if a player killed another player, and kill the same person later in a different fight, before the 4 hours were up and on the same char?
I almost took someone out but then his friends who killed be 2 hours before destroyed me. I didn't fire at them.

You killed them 2 hours ago, or they you? From what you wrote there, it is a tad unclear.

You are killed by Person A.
You move to another system on that character, and sometime later end up engaging Person B.
Person A comes to the assistance of Person B.
You can fight both of them.

However-

You are killed by Person A.
You move to another system on that character, and sometime later encounter Person A grouped with Person B.
You cannot initiate hostilities with Persons A and B, they must shoot first and make it fall under self-defense (the trump-all rule)- and if Person A asks you to scram, you should.

If its in another system it does not fall under the 4 hour rule
That and letting them shoot first is not that hard
If you were in the other system and they told you scram i would say
piss off i was here first more or less and if they fire.
Mop the floor with them.

Read these rules again.

Quote:5.6 If a player engages cruise engine or docks with a station, jump gate, or trade lane during a PvP fight, this player has fled the fight. The fleeing player must leave the system and may not re-enter the system where the fight took place with any of the characters on his/her account(s) while the enemy (player or players involved in the fight) remain in the system until four hours have passed from the time the fight ended.
Using cruise engines to catch up with those capable of thrusting at higher speed than you is not allowed. Trade lanes may be used to pursue or catch up to other ships under any circumstances, even if the other ship has not yet fled as described above.
The fleeing player can fight in self-defense if attacked again while attempting to leave the system after fleeing.

5.7 A player who was killed in a PvP fight must not enter the system where the fight took place with any of the characters on his/her account(s) until four hours have passed from the time of his/her destruction.

If the player respawns in the same system, he/she must leave the system within 10 minutes of his destruction without engaging anyone, except in self-defense. Other players are not allowed to attack one who is leaving.

5.8 A player who was killed in a PvP fight must not re-engage the enemy (player or players involved in the death) with any of the characters on his/her account(s) for 4 hours.

If you flee, then you can fight again without problem- you just have to leave the system for so long as your attackers remain (or four hours, whichever is shorter).

If you are killed, however, you cannot attack first no matter where you are, and you are barred from the system you died in for four hours even if your attackers have left.

Thus, flee if you can.
