I have a problem... - Magoo! - 06-26-2009 Righto, here's the situation. I've decided, for the purpose of hopefully spicing up Bretonia and encouraging the KNF to bugger us more, to make a sort of troop transport/blockade runner type ship that would, of course, be 'working for' the Armed Forces. I was looking at the Shire container transport because its heavily armored, heavily armed, and has convincing enough cargo spaces that could be (if need be) seen as having space for human inhabitants besides the other light arms, military vehicles, food - whatever supplies the boys at Harris (who have been cut off) at the Battleships need. Basically, it could handle Kusari badgering it while it got its cargo to safety. Here's the problem I run into with the BAF ID. "No transport ships with a cargo greater than 3000". Now, what do you recommend I do? I have my heart quite set on the Shire due to its unique look and passability as a troop transport, so I'd really rather not be recommended to another ship. I can't (and don't really want to have to) make a Special RP request because I can't make the character 'legally' to fulfill a number of the parameters (i.e. 25 hours, filing it for a tech use conflict, about six of the questions, etc.). Really the only thing I can do is start writing, which I was planning on doing anyways. So is there some Bretonian corporation that might do this in concert with the BAF that would allow such a ship, or am I doomed? Help please? Gracias, Magoo! I have a problem... - 11of10 - 06-26-2009 I think actually that the BOWEX is the only bretonian corporation licenced to resupply the BAF. Check in their ID or maybe reputation. I really think I've read it somewhere, just not sure where. I have a problem... - Ark - 06-26-2009 Spec Ops ID probably... isn't this kind of thing what it was made for? Of course I'm not sure if those are being handed out presently. I have a problem... - pchwang - 06-26-2009 I'll be honest with you... I can't see the Shire being a troop transport. For one, it's too big. Hard to navigate around asteroids and minefields, which is crucial for troop transports, since the human cargo they carry is too precious to let a few rocks endanger. I'd recommend the Percheron. Since thats 2600 cargo(I think... <.< ), that should work for the BAF ID. It's also smaller, and far more agile. Its size is what makes it perfect, in my opinion - since its mostly the gynormous armored plates that have the turrets on it that makes it seem to large. Well, alright, admittedly along with the very large bridge area, but I thought about this realistically. Sure the Percheron might be more agile and whatnot, but as I'm aiming for supplying Harris which has been cut off from Bretonia and evacuating various people... Anyways, about to get off topic. I think of it like this - the Shire would probably be able to survive the Kusari Battleship's barrage of fire outside the Tau-31 JG, whereas the Percheron might only survive in-game because its invincibility from docking cinema. They'd be firing continuously on the side of the ship while its undergoing a jump and that's why the armor appeals to me. If I were trying to go for insertion of troops tactically speaking, I'd most definitely go for something smaller, but as it stands, I'm aiming for something that could survive by simply bypassing the enemy defenses. Its like tanks in WWI (even though technically they were there until the very very end of the war, if at all). It was meant to steamroll past and through an enemy defense while keeping the soldiers behind its mass a bit safer from machine gun fire. I'm gonna switch time-frames here, but you'll get my point: whereas the Percheron would be more of a ship/plane to drop paratroopers. Anywho, on to the mines/asteroids... On this, I have thought as well. Since I'll be supplying Harris and bringing back the wounded (refugees), the only mines or asteroids I'll really have to worry about would be the one leading up to the planet; but thats really a clear run from the partially constructed trade lane and the debris that was cleared for said construction to take place. Most the rest of my travels would take place in House space, and therefore be lacking in the asteroid/minefield department (Lacking, not devoid of). So eh... Thats my interpretation of the circumstance. I have a problem... - Dab - 06-26-2009 ' Wrote:I'll be honest with you...Shire has 12 turrets and high armor. Also crucial for a troop transport. It actually fits the criteria for one. Anyway, go BowEx. They are actually government-controlled/owned and supply the BAF already. I have a problem... - Sprolf - 06-26-2009 I'd have to be another voice to say that the Shire is a good troop transport. Guns, armour, cargo space... it has it. I'd say it's almost the best candidate for a troop transport in Sirius. |
