Hours, days, months... The time of Sirius. - Elvin - 07-03-2009

Greetings, writting a stories, I wondered a bit.

There is no Earth anymore, so people of Sirius measure time in other way, or they kept the system from ol' good times, even with names of days and months?

Theoretically the system should be original for each planet, as the days lenght is affected by the size of planet and it's position... but well, that would be very, very cofusing and scary.

So I would say they system is kept as it was... who's with me?

---------------

I just started to wonder when I wanted to write 13th April 811 AS ... It... sounds a bit strange haha.

Thanks for any answers,
Elvin

My opinion it was a ''cycle'' of a pre-determened source. For example crystal pulsation under an electric current. Something that will stay the same wherever it is.

I use the Sol time-measurements,

as it is today 3th of July 817 A.S

I'm sure they are using the same time system, after all the people from Earth would have taken it to their first space colony's, and it is evident that they were still in use during the alliance coalition war in Starlancer, and in turn the people on the sleeper ships would have taken it to their new homes.

Things like time are more of a habit then anything else, passed from one generation to another because they are used to it, people will rarely switch it simply because someone says "Hey! Lets change time to something else!"

Yeah, well I hope they kept it, and its measured the same way all across Sirius no matter how fast the planet turns or how far the sun is...

What actually was a bit confusig was the fact that when this and the previous New year came, Sirius still stayed in 815 and now 816, according to all info, it messed up everything, like having 15-16 months a year haha. Well it was because they wanted to change it with new version I guess... Othervise I am screwed.

Well, I guess I will pretend in stories and RP messages that we have Monday, we have January ... and 7 day a week.

There is nothing to say that RLs time and the time in FL have to travel at the same rate.

Actually, the 24 Hour period came about because that is how long it took for our little blue planet to orbit around the sun.

So to assume that we went out into the galaxy and find another planet that took the exact amount of time is mind boggling.

So lets just go with the 24 / 7/ 365 and save me a headache.

You used a nonstandard text size! SHUN!

While the HH:MM may be different, I am sure that everything else is the same as it is here. Just look at the news in any bar.

On a side note, it seems to be commonly accepted that time moves a lot faster in Sirius, IE a couple hours may be a day.

LOL!

24 Hours is how long it takes our planet to do a 360.
