Xavier.Fierceshot - Xavier.Fierceshot - 07-07-2009 The Ace Xavier Fierceshot looked past his viewports into the blackness of space. The stars reflected off his glass windows and cast a deep blue glow into his cockpit. He watched as shooting stars and comets flew by into distant galaxies. He drew a deep breath. Everytime he looked at these sights a wonderous feeling arose within him. Everything was silent, beautiful, supernatural... Perfect. Xavier remembered his long lost father's old words. "Space is a place of great beauty. A natural home for the hunter. People say that space is empty and this is true... for the most part. It is up to the hunter to make use of the space around themself. Space becomes full when you know how to use it." Indeed space is beautiful.. Xavier thought to himself with a grin. Hands gripping his console, Xavier thrusted his ship, The DuckHunter Into the wild unknown. Flying throught the cosmos, Xavier noticed an unknown object in his scanner. The unknown object was big. Really big. It was a black hole. Xavier desperately tried to angle his ship around, but it was too late. The black hole had caught ahold of his ship in its gravitational pull. Xavier cursed to himself. He powered up his cruise engines and released all of his cargo. The newly lost weight helped the cruise engines to reach maximum speed quickly, but it was not enough to escape the gravitational pull. Xavier shut his eyes as he was pulled in... "You look like you could use some help!" Xavier looked out his viewport and caught his first glimpse of The Dream Theater. "Mr. Labrie, full power to tractor beams, reel him in!" Xavier felt his ship lurch as the powerful tractor beam pulled him slowly out of the black hole. "Thank you so much," breathed Xavier, "I thought I was a gon-" Xavier never got to finish his sentence because the vacuum of space ripped his ship apart. Spinning wildly, Xavier flew back towards the black hole. Towards his inevitable death. "Oh come on, your not going to be going that way!" Once again the Dream Theater launched its tractor beam. Xavier was caught in the beam and pulled out of the black hole once more. He was sweating heavily inside his helmet as he was pulled under the belly of the ship and into the cargo bays... "Right then, I am Admiral Petrucci, Flight Commander of this vessel. That was a bit of a sticky situation you were in, luckily I was passing through this system... which brings up another point. This is an Outcast Guard system. How did you get here without Guard intelligence detaining you? Why were they not alerted to your presence? Are you a spy for the Corsairs? " Xavier stared blankly at him. "Well what's the matter? Can't speak English? Come on, out with it!" "My name is Xavier Fierceshot," he said boldly, "With all due respect Admiral, I do not know what you are talking about at all. I was born on the planet Rigadoon in the Zuethlera system. These talk of Outcasts and Corsairs... what are they?" Petrucci stared at him hard for several minutes before replying. Xavier knew he was determining if he was telling the truth or not. "Xavier, my fellow, do you know what sector of space this is?" Xavier hesitated. Come to think of it, he didn't know where he was. He hadn't known for many years. He had only gone where the stars led him, only stopping for supplies on unknown and exotic stations. "Sir, I was born in the Centauri sector of space," Xavier said. "Ah... well you see Xavier, you are in the Sirius sector of space now. It isn't all fun and games here, there are many wars that are going on tearing the sector apart." "And what side are you on?" "I am with the Outcasts. We seek the Ascendancy," replied Petrucci. "The Ascendancy?" "There is no time to explain, it is a long tale... well... not a tale.... but.. a....... hmmm... a philosophy of sorts." "I see." "Well with my due respect Xavier, I say no, you do not see. The only way to see is to experience." "Then let me go with you," Xavier said with a surge of energy, "I have nothing to go back to. My sector is years behind me in space. My father once said that you should always seize the day, before it is gone." "Your father has the right idea, but there is a war going on here... you do realize?" "I am a skilled pilot, I can fend for myself." "Prove it." With Petrucci's last words, Xavier turned and climbed aboard a Scimitar in the hangar of the Dream Theater. He fired up the engines, and booted up his life support systems. His ship began to rise, and it shot out into the blackness of space. Petrucci's voice crackled through Xavier's communications device. "Alright, here is the drill. I'm going to launch a squadron of robot fighters at you. If you destroy them all, you can assist the Outcasts in our journey to find the Ascendancy. If you do not, I'll end the mission and point you towards the Corsair side of the fight so you can sabotage their fleet with your mediocre piloting skills. Xavier couldn't help himself. He grinned. He liked the Admiral's sense of humour. The Dream Theater's hangar doors flew open, and out flew the Robot starfighters. There were seven Robot starfighters. They fired blue photon lasers at Xavier. He activated his thrusters and weaved in and out of the laser fire. Xavier knew from experience that sometimes the best way to avoid the enemy, was to get close to the enemy. He continued to dodge the barrage of fire until he was a few metres away from the ship. With a feint to the left, he quickly flipped over the starboard side of the Robot starfighter. This was an all too familiar sight for Xavier. Staring into the engines of his prey's ship, lasers eating away it its hull. Xavier always liked nimble ships. Not getting hit in the first place, was better than standing still and taking hits in his opinion. Xavier focused his fire until one of the Robot starfighters weaved out of control and exploded. Xavier laughed. This was easy. He continued to dodge the fire and take out the Robots until none remained. "There!" Xavier breathed, " Not a scratch!" "Very impressive.... spectacular..." Petrucci said in awe. "So I'm In?" "Oh yes... You are, Xavier Fierceshot." |
