Alright, so, work is boring. I have a lot of time to think. (No, be quiet. I have my right to talk too, Jamez D:)

Imagine if you will a world in which people didn't trade bots and bats in fights. A world in which people couldn't rebuild their ship instantly when one more shot was about to take them out.

I tell you now how it might be done.

Buff bots and bats. (Shut up and listen, Eppy.)

You heard me right. Buff them. Make them regen more, say 5000 points each. But at the same time, decrease the capacity to hold them on a ship. ALSO, increase the price to something around 50-100k per.

So, a LF might hold two of each, a HF 3, VHF 4, bomber 4-5, GB perhaps 30, a cruiser 80, and a dread/BS/carrier maybe 120. (Numbers subject to change, this was a brainstorm, not exact numbers, Zach D:)

This would accomplish several things: (SHH! Scott, listen already!)

-Shorter fights
-Less trading during said fights
-More traders (Gotta fund those pricey things)

But really, consider it. It might help just a bit. (You can all talk now)

Now I can't wait for my Junkers to shoot starflier Xenos near Rochester and sell the bots and bats for a living:)

Interesting idea. This would make fights more intense definitely, as you can only repair fully about once. And what if you need just a sliver more health than one nanobot package provides? Oops, just wasted a whole nanobot package.

Would NPCs only have like 1 nanobot each too? Or maybe just remove regens from NPCs altogether (I approve of this idea).

Generally I like the idea, I think the price increase should be proportionate to the increase in regenerative capacity though, people just starting with no money should be able to afford them you know.

I'm all for getting rid of all Bats and Bots ... not realistic and only useful in PVP ... since we're an RP server ... we don't need em.

Knee...jerk...pack parroting.

Bots and bats are part of the balance of many ships in many mods--and the "no bots and bats" is a big PVP rule on the hard core PVP servers. It doesn't overtly help or hurt rp and by the way--why don't we just get rid of guns? Gee.

Yes ... I used to be a member of Procyon ... heavy PVP server where the use of bats and bots in combat was frowned upon heavily. Only poor combat pilots used them. The good pilots would only use them once their opponent was destroyed.

Trouble I've come across here on Disco years back was when a CT would park next to me and my opponent and continually resupply him with bats and bots. I'd have him on a sliver of a hull and next I know he's regenerated again. Used to also come across people that would slaughter their own NPC's to harvest their bats and bots ... ANYTHING to stay alive and claim victory. Bats and bots only make for long fights. And there's seldom role play involved when they're being resupplied by traders or harvesting their allies.

EDIT: This is why I avoid getting into PVP here. Too many people abuse it and use game mechanics to get away with it. In role play ... how does the combat pilot have time to conduct a ship to ship transfer of bats and bots from a transport? And how is it these guys can go back and dock at a base of NPC's he just shot up to get their bats and bots?

Bats, bots, trade lanes ... what else needs to go?

Well...it's...interesting. Since I've accepted my ideal world where they disappear isn't going to happen, I don't see why we couldn't try it. As long as it makes bombers die faster.

A thought - Zeltak - 07-22-2009

In my opinion:

Firstly, PvP is an important aspect in a Roleplay environment, Baltar.

Secondly, if you think trading bots and bats is considered lame/bad/should-be-illegal tactic. Then I want to ban every single person who purposely goes full evasive against my bomber whenever I take their shield down. See I can't do that can I? Instead I find a way to beat that tactic.

Point being, tactics are just tactics. You might think its bad or not, it shouldn't matter, what should matter is whether you decide to complain about it or find your own tactic to counter it. Now I'm not a fan of complaining about a certain tactic unless its very disruptive to "fun-gameplay."

Also.

I can't even begin to explain to you the level of biasness in that statement.

As Zeltak said, bot and batt trading is a legitimate tactic in fights. There are advantages and disadvantages to it.

On the new type of bots idea.. It's not a good one. Say you have 1 unit of hull damage. Just one. Now while fighters have 50+ bots, wasting a single bot isn't that big a deal. But if you have 1 unit of hull damage, 2 bots, each doing 5,000 repair each.. You accidentally hit the button and you're out 4,999 units of hull.. Or say you have 5,001 units of hull damage.. There is no way to just use one bot at a time, so you just wasted an entire bot because you can't tell the exact amount of damage in units that you have. This would seriously gimp fighters and bombers while barely effecting capships. Things are fine as they are. If you want to make fights shorter, you need to change gun damage and/or hull values for all ships. And the balance in that is much much more difficult than changing it across the board.
