I basically understand how to make it work.....even with vista, my question now is how to keep it from splitting up the file every time it hits 3.90 Gigs (about 4 minutes with my settings. If there isn't a way gimme a name to a program that won't screw up the footages ever so badly when I try to fuse the files together.

I used to use Gamecam lite. It has a watermark but I managed to get 3 hours of footage filmed in only 300mb. Quality wasn't bad at all, either.

Im trying to find a new thing instead of fraps, ill try nighthawks one.

My fraps freezes and closes freelancer when I run it in window mode :S

Stop running it in window mode then.

Does anyone have solution to this problem or a program that can merge videos (video editing software.)

Quote:Why is the AVI movie generated by Fraps so big? How can I reduce the size? The filesize is big because there isn’t enough time to encode the movie while the game is running. The movie frames are slightly compressed, but still require a large amount of disk space due to the high resolutions. Once you have finished capturing you should convert the saved AVI into one of the popular compressed movie formats such as mpeg or divx. Recommended programs for doing this are tmpgenc (Tsunami Mpeg Encoder), and VirtualDub. Using VirtualDub is quite easy. To create a compressed version of the AVI follow these steps: * Start VirtualDub * Select File->Open and choose the AVI in the Fraps directory you wish to compress. * Select Video->Compression and choose the codec you wish to compress with (usually divx) * Select File->Save As AVI and specify a filename for the new AVI. If you have Windows XP you can also use Windows Movie Maker to compress the video files. If you use Windows Movie Maker it's recommended that you keep your Fraps video files at 800x600 or under.

I hope that helps.

i was asking how to keep as one big file, rather than dividing it every 3.90 gigs.

After using google search I've found several forums on this issue regarding file size irrespective of whether you're using 32 or 64 bit OS.

Fraps has a 4 gig limit due to the codecs it uses ( Avi 1 ) explanation in link:

Also found this letter to the fraps dev. ( email headers removed. )

Ahh, you're still basing file size cutoff on FAT32 then. That's why I was confused at the cutoff, my drives are all NTFS for the express reason that it has no single file size limit like FAT32 / 16.

Is there any chance of an update to increase the file size of captures on NTFS based systems? I'd like to be able capture more than 3 minutes of in-game play w/ half frame captures.

Thanks!

(btw, my system has all the updates you linked me to, thanks!)

Dear xxxxxx,

Thanks for your reply. The reason for this limitation is not due to older file systems such as FAT32. The standard AVI file format only supports files up to 4GB in size. When the files are larger than this, many video editing programs have problems and are unable to read the files correctly.

If you would rather not compress the videos in an editing program and instead keep them in the original format just for playback, you could use a media/video joining tool to combine the files into a single video clip. There are many tools available on the internet that can do this for you, if you are after a free one you could try using Media Join 3.0 which is available at the following link:

So that's about it from me.

CHANGE YOUR SETTINGS!
Seriously - I get 20 plus MINUTES of video in 2GB or less. What are you doing, recording at 120fps or something?
