Windows 7 - Klaw117 - 08-21-2009

This is purely out of curiosity. I was looking at some forums today (Discovery, Windows Seven Forums, etc.) and I suddenly got the urge to ask you guys whether or not you will buy Windows 7 when it comes out (release date is October 22, 2009). I also thought we could discuss some aspects of it as well.

As for me, I'm definitely getting Windows 7 when it comes out. I got the Release Candidate sometime in mid June and I've been happy with it ever since. As many people (including Microsoft workers) have pointed out, "Windows 7 is Windows Vista done right" and I must say, I couldn't agree more. Windows 7 has been very stable (I've never gotten a BSOD in it) and it has great compatibility with every application I've used. Windows Vista wasn't all that bad either if you were either lucky or knew what you were doing, but in Windows 7, many features (such as Windows Aero) have been improved and there are many new features as well (such as the new Superbar and the Libraries). Speed has also improved drastically. Internet Explorer 8 (yes, I still use IE) is very fast and startup/shut down times are usually less than 30 seconds.

What are your perceptions of Windows 7 and what do you think of your current operating system?

Plus, has Windows Vista worked well for anyone here? I personally never ran into any problems with it, although I did think it was slow at times.

I might have considered it until I discovered that the XP compatibility mode will NOT be available to the home edition users.

Quote:XP Mode consists of the Virtual PC-based virtual environment and a fully licensed copy of Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3). It will be made available, for free, to users of Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate.

God, will I ever.

I have taken to pretending that Vista never existed. XP pro to Win7 Ultimate ftw!

Im not gonna update to W7. Waste of money when XP pro is just fine.

I won't buy it. My computers are going to stay cozy with XP. However, when I get a new computer, I'll make sure it comes with 7.

To be perfectly frank, these are all features I've been used to with Linux for years. The only plus for me is compatibility with my apps and games.

I'm too poor to buy Windows 7. If I had the cash, I'd be thinking about it. For now I'll just use XP with a Windows 7 skin.

I'm using the Release Candidate at the moment, and I love it. It's better than XP, I think. Unfortunately I don't have the money to buy Windows 7 when it gets released...

I'm in no hurry to switch from Vista to 7 yet. Maybe in after a year or two.
