Account recovery - Clayph - 09-03-2009

Well, the scenario is as follows. I recently rejoined Disco and played on a single account, and couldn't be bothered getting myself FAM, since I intended to stay with one account for some time.

Two days ago I upgraded from XP to Windows 7, with all the files included in my previous installation put into the folder Windows.old. Now, I've run Freelancer from the same installation I've been running it on XP and I got prompted for a new account ID. I clicked OK and then I see an empty character list.

Is there any way for me to get my account back? Isn't it stored in the registry or something? Not a single byte got lost in the OS upgrade, but help would be appreciated with this.

Then, you need to find a way to read the registry keys from there. From there, it should be a matter of finding and copying the values.
Other option would be using Windows XP emulator with your old files and using the internal regedit.

It used to be pinned but apparantly not any more.

Thanks for the guide link, unfortunately it didn't help. In the old registry, there's a lot of files in Freelancer 1.0 folder, InstallKey is not among them. So, I guess I just lost my only account here.

You don't really need the installkey to access your account. You need the "name" and "signature" codes.

You are looking for these entries in HKEY_CURRENT_USER (Not HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE !):

MPAccountName
MPAccountNameSig

These aren't there as well. Let me write down the list of the entries there.

(Default)
AppPath
CDPath
DigitalProductID
InstalledGroup
LangID
Launched
PID
Version
VersionType
Zone
