Role-playing forums & OOC messages - majkp - 03-20-2007

I have seen too many nice RP threads which ended either in a flame or were flooded by off-topic ooc messages and it's really a shame because there are lots of beautiful stories and great story-tellers in our forums.

I mean you don't have to agree for example with Ant saying AW shouldn't use a Zoner ID. What's wrong if a bunch of Zoners make a poll and agree on the point that AW should use a different ID. It was started in an RP forum so noone says AW has to switch the ID just because couple of Zoners think so. They could send an official note to the AW HQ and they could reply-back that they don't plan to do so because bla bla bla...

Why does it sometimes (note that I am not saying "always") have to end in personal accusations, flaming, character deleting, community leaving etc.? I know it's possible, if you read about certain Kusarian ambassador who failed to establish peace you know what I'm talking about. Another example - try to find OOCs in "Veranda Incognita".

Well back to our topic now, I used the "Zoners vs. AW conflict" and the other ones just as an example so please don't discuss about those.

What do you think should be done in order to save our stories in RP threads?
Please explain if you have a better idea...

I agree, but OOC posts are necessary sometimes, even in RP Threads.

My idea is: None of the above, nothing needs to be changed.

Then you could vote for the first option...:)

But I think OOCs really could be avoided, even saying "I had to go to bed" can be explained in a way which fits the story or reduced to a one-liner.

Well, it depends on what kind of OOC messages. Such as, if its maybe a few lines explaining something necessary, then keep it. If its a lot of OOC flaming. Then ya, move it to flood.

I usually delete all OOC that is not explicitly necessary for the thread. But those OOC lines that explain something about the post, are left there.

When a RP thread goes OOC, i then delete all the ooc, close the thread (rarely), or warn people to stop the OOC.

I voted for the first option, but I agree with Korrd, OOC should only be allowed when it's necessary for the post, and people should try to make everything they can RP, and everyone needs to remember that your characters would not know about anything OOC... I had a slight problem with that recently. and people shouldn't be posting in other peoples message dumps without permission.

Good point, but that would take too long.

I think that if the OOC threads spawn something random that has nothing to do with the post, they should get moved to the flood so people can still disscuss it, but they then leave the old post alone and free of spam.

Verginix Out

I still think those unavoidable OOCs could be held in another thread and the original RP thread would be completely ooc-less. So I voted for deletion.

It's a shame there is no way to disable them like it's possible to disable signatures via "Lo-Fi Version" view. It saves the PgDn key greatly...

Only unavoidable things for me, even the comments after the story is done kinda spoil it (make another thread for the comments).

I specially hate the

kind of posts if no one asked for them.
