Clarification regarding re-engagement rule - DarthCloakedGuy - 09-08-2009

Scenario:

Outcasts A and B are fighting Corsairs C and D.

Outcast A and Corsair C chase each other's engines.

Outcast B and Corsair D focus on each other.

A and C drift several k away from B and D.

Outcast A kills Corsair C. There is much rejoicing on Malta.

Can Outcast A cruise to assist Outcast B against Corsair D, or would that violate the rules?

I would say that so long as they remain within scanner range then it can be regarded as the same battle. If it effectively splits into two battles and they both drift off each others' scanner then such would probably allow cruising to the others after disposing of the counterpart.

If you cruise, and they arent, your doing it wrong

I don't like answers that begin with "I would say".

That would violate the rules, speaking as a forum moderator and not an admin.

This started as a 2 on 2 group combat, and is still one combat. No cruising, no docking, no engaging trade lanes.

That's kinda... cheesey... oh well. Rules are rules.

Clarification regarding re-engagement rule - Exsiled_one - 09-08-2009

that's not cheezy, you can thrust away and back to combat and thats about it.

Exactly, thrust back.. Don't engage cruise engines. It's pretty simple.

I know in real life that doesn't make a lot of sense, but the cruise rule was born here in Discovery for good reasons.

If it's not cheezy, then I'm certain it would be easy for you to say the RP reason why it makes sense?

It's but a figure of speech. Furthermore, it wasn't an answer, it was an opinion.
