As captain D.Dare of the BAF hauled the hatch open he could see the occupant was in a bad way, and if the O2 gauge was to be believed, lucky to be alive. It was not often he found an escape pod in the Barrier Nebula and even rarer to find a live occupant in a pod that could be best described as scrap metal. Immediate medical care was the order of the day and he followed his training to the letter, Airways, Breathing, Ciculation. Yes, he would live. Now to get him back to the Grimsby.
Good he was coming round. Perhaps now the mystery strangers identity would be uncovered. "You're safe i'm a doctor. Just take it easy and let the meds work".This patient was clearly caught on the borderline of life and death when they picked him up. It would be unlikely he could communicate for a few days yet. In the meantime, Mike.Butcher MO, could run the DNA tests and establish an identity..... .....The analyser bleeped to signal the completion of its task. Mike had just enough time to read the name Barry.Cryer before the screen scrambled momentarily, clearing to read 'unidentified subject'. "Damn things on the fritz again.", he chided as he pressed the resample button. A few moments late the result confirmed 'unidentified subject'. "Well I'll put you down as 'believed to be' Barry.Cryer, it will make the paperwork easier heh", he concluded, giving his best 'bedside manner' smile.
As the armoured transport swerved out of the trade lane the hostiles pricked across the targeting scanner like a rash of measles. Captain Dare briefly imagined his blood splatter across the console in a matching pattern, gulped and flicked the safety off his weapons in readyness. An irish voice crackled over the comm "Drop the pilot fly-boy". A flicker of hope, but bad news for that guy, whoever he was. Dan.Dare may have played the hero many times, but corpse wasnt a word to be found anywhere on his agenda, and his hand stretched out for the cargo release lock. As the hiss and whir of the mechanism drew toward its familiar conclusion, Dare was startled, by a loud report and the convolusion his vessel was subjected to. Colission! and a big one at that, he realised, as he fought to recover control of his craft. The flashes of weapon-fire, orders screamed over comms and the purcusions of debris off his hull, quickened his mind. Tell-tales of a battle swiftly joined, and exited for some. He made a swift summation of the situation. Two Shires, one a burning wreck. Three Percherons, two of which are firing lustily at the remaining hostiles while the third sucumbs to fire and begins to drift. And finaly two scouts circling on their foes and raining a hail of ordinance. God bless BMM, those crews have guts and those Mollies are going down. Hang on Mollies! Mollies? no, no they arent Molies. A rescan shows just mercinaries. Something is very wrong here, but no time to think. Another hostile explodes in a cloud of vapour, as the Shire nudges into range and plants a volley from its port side guns squarley on target. Dan selects a target, thrusts into action all guns blazing, and remembers no more.

Mr Cryer is to be posted to Birmingham station as Trainee Manager, upon completion of Degree Qualifications.
The recent award of the Order of Bretonian Enlightenment by Queen Carina, for Mr Cryers thesis and charitable works, suggests he would make an exellent replacement for Mr Frank.Wolds, the current station manager.
We also support Mr Cryers request for personnel to staff research, manufacturing and transport vessels for use by our charitable arm GOoWR (Grand Order of Water Rats).
